Buzzing fan on H-240X

Just installed the H-240X heatsink and one of the fans is making a buzzing/rattling type noise. I don't see any obstructions, like cables, hitting the fins. Could it possibly be the pump? It's the fan located over the pump. I'm going to try re-mounting it but I would love some other suggestions if anyone else has any.

Remounted and noise still exists. There are definitely no obstructions. It sounds perhaps a bit more faint but it's definitely still there. It sounds like a really fast clicking noise. Almost as if a wire were being slightly rubbed against (but I see nothing). I should've probably swapped the fans around so I can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. I'm worried that I'm hearing is the pump, which I'm guessing would mean I have to RMA my unit, but I'd like to solve the issue before it comes to that.

Just disconnect the fan connectors 1 by 1 until the noise goes away, then you know which one is causing it. Include the pump too of course.

Or you can run them with the fans connected but not mounted, so you can see if it's related to how they're mounted and, if not related, then which one is creating the noise. That also means you don't have to run the system with the pump disconnected, which is probably not a great idea (though it might be okay for short periods). Just be sure that if you do run them while not mounted, you have the radiator oriented so that it won't get air in the pump (iow, don't place it with the pump above the radiator's main structure).

After messing around with the fan speeds in Speedfan, I don't think it's either fan. With the fans/pump set to 40% it's practically inaudible, but once I go to 45% - the rattling all of a sudden gets very noisy. I'm pretty sure if the noise was associated with the fan it wouldn't be a few % that causes a night and day difference with noise. When I turn the fans up to 100%, it drowns out the pump noise a bit, but everything is a little too noisy by that point. So I'm pretty sure it's the pump now. It sounds just like this video of someone's H-220X model having a noisy pump. The more I look, the more people I find that have experienced this issue.

Swiftech's support is currently helping me. They seem pretty first-rate in the customer-service department. I'm currently waiting a few days to see if it's an air bubble that needs to subside. If it doesn't go away, I was told to put a drop of dish soap in the reservoir. I'll let you guys know how to the process goes.

I had a similar issue on mine however it ended up being the case not the fan itself. The case had some installed rubber dampeners which I couldn't use due to the short screw length.

I left them in the 120mm holes thinking nothing of it. When I tweaked the fan profiles I heard the fan clicking and thought the fan was hitting the top of the case it was mounted too. After putting my hand between the blades following each ones path I caught the problem. I took out the dampeners and my issue was resolved.

My case has those rubber dampeners too. And the screw length is awfully short - cutting into the dampeners. This could very well be the solution. I'll try to take them out and see if that's the trick.

To clarify, you're referring to the dampeners left in that you didn't use? I'll try taking out the ones I'm not using and if that doesn't work I'll take them all out.

EDIT: Took'em all out, didn't help. I'm not even sure how I had the radiator screwed in - some of the screws holding it were definitely loose due to the rubber :p Much more secure now.

Thread Solved: Put a drop of dish soap in the reservoir, let the pumps and fans run at 100% over night. Noise is gone.
