Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

A friend tried it and it seriously messed up his HOTAS driver, care to share how to set it up, I would love to use my TrackIR already?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, boy I wish there was a useful wiki set up, that has to be one of the most pain in the hind threads to read since the most updated and not broken information is later on in the thread.

EDIT: looks like this would break my pedals (they would no longer function), since while you can input for more then 3 inputs, only inputs 1, 2 and 3 are recognized :-(

EDIT2: By inputs, I mean devices, like controllers.

I know what you mean... I spent many hours just tinkering with key binds. I saw one for a View target Lock which would basically make a Aim assist/lock for the gimbaled gun but it was disabled, it would make things much easier lol...

I use vjoystick and UJR (universal joystick mapper). It lets me create a virtual stick with up to 32 buttons, 1 hat and 8 axis from any of the game devices you have. What I do is use my Warthog HOTAS and device as 2 and 3, and vjoy as #1, which I can use my 3 axis from my pedals, and any others I choose.

Yes it's complex but like I said I don't mind tinkering lol.

I've used vjoy & ujr for those games that don't support multiple devices for a while so I can get my pedals working with my Warthog HOTAS.

so tried out 2 60mm on the wings of the 300i trainer and they melt vanduuls, that is likely what i am going to be putting on my m50. since they are classed for it according to the voyager direct store.

i had 1 on the 325a in my hangar but i don't plan to have the 325a in my hangar for ever it will be melted when the super hornet package comes back so i spent $5 on UEC to combine with my 13k UEC i had and just picked up 2 of the 60mm's from the voyager direct to play with.

they fire slow but they never run out of energy, just ammo. made it to wave 9 before i slammed into a vanduul on accident with the 300i it was working out nice too could of got a lot farther.

and issue with the 60mm right now is the velocity of the projectile is too low, it cant keep up with where the computer tells it to aim when you fire it so most of the time the shots miss right now but when you do get contact it feels really nice damage wise.

The trainer ships come with the highest rated powerplants each ship can have. The trainer Hornet for example is actually using the military version powerplant, so don't assume you will be able to use the same loadout when the game goes live.

Doesn't Thrustmaster come with a profile editing program? If so you should be able to use more than 32 functions.

There is a difference between profile and what the game recognizes. I use a profiling program to add functionality beyond that which is available to me in Arena Commander, but AC is still limited to only 3 devices.

Yes Thrustmaster's Target program works, but it doesn't let you add other non "Thrustmaster Target" supported device axis like the 3 from my Saitek combat rudder pedals. I do use Target to combine my stick and throttle sometimes as well as the extra 48 buttons from my MFD cougars using keyboard emulation. So in total it's 99 buttons (32 is the max for a single device in windows) Older games and crappy device implementation in new ones still forces me to use Vjoy/UJR since they only see 1 device and the first device.

thrustmaster target doesnt work at all for my t.16000 it just locks up my t.16000 as soon as i run a script even when the script doesn't change anything.

That's not good, I wonder what's wrong.

I haven't had any problems with Target so far.

Are you able to see the new stick in Windows game controllers when you run target? When I run mine it disables both my Warthog stick and throttle and then adds a new device called "thrustmaster combined"

I think I do remember hearing something about Target having comparability problems with windows 8 or 8.1 maybe I don't remember exactly.

yeah i see the combined one, but my t.16000 doesn't light up when you move it like it normally does once the script starts running, and is unresponsive when testing it. as soon as i stop running the script in target the t.16000 works normally again.

i am not too worried about it as long as chris wasnt wrong in his guesstimation of bindable keys within arena commander in 2-3 weeks. i can deal with the crappy key layout until then.

Yeah that sucks, Target is a pretty decent tool with all the Zoom, S and J curve axis settings if your into tweaking those things.

HELL YA! My 350R is back in its glories colors. Now I'm afraid that if I see the Aurora LX back in red I'm going to looser heart and not be able to do a cross-chassis upgrade to the next big ship.

mmmmmm,, I likes

I'm still holding onto my upgrades, I haven't applied them yet in case I change my mind. I was hoping that you could still swap out the the ships by modding the files like it was in the past but it seems they have locked it down with Arena commander :( At least for now anyhow, maybe once they let us visit other peoples hangars it won't be so bad.

Fair enough. I personally don't use the Saitek ones myself as I hate running programs for peripherals in the background. I just hope Star Citizen supports the sliders and allows for modifiers/switches in the options menu. And, of course, a way to back up my control layout.

Hrmm. Got the 300i now. On the upgrade package store they have a package to upgrade a 300i to a F7C Hornet for $55. Worth it?

One thing I'm worried about is I do want to keep some 'progression' for myself in the game. I don't want to start with an awesome ship so there's nothing to work towards. How long in game would it take to make enough to get a hornet you guys figure?

I don't personally think this is going to be an issue. I expect to be upgrading ship systems right off the bat and really think the hulls are going to be a secondary consideration. I also expect to be buying ships as soon as I'm able to in game.

That's just my gut though, nothing but what I think is going to happen.

As an aside, just got shipping email for the new run of cards.

it really depends on what role you want to fill at the start.

remember the hornet is primarily supposed to be for dog fighting, lots of guns minimal cargo.

so if you want to just blow up vanduuls right from the beginning and not much else besides hunter killer type missions to make your early mark you will want a hornet most likely.

but once you have made some UEC there are a lot of other ships to get that fill many different roles.

the hornet might excel at fighting but its not the only ship you can do that in either it might just have an edge for more room for expandability when it comes to killing, if you only have the base hornet for example, you still need to upgrade the power plant stock weapons, get a ball turret, get weapons for your ball turret, get a canard turret, get weapons for the canard turret, new main thrusters possibly new maneuvering thrusters i think they are going to have different thruster types for maneuvering ones too. along with many other ship systems and defensive upgrades like more armor or what ever else you want to throw on it like some fuzzy dice.

the base ship hull is not end game even for that ship because you might need to shop around for the ideal equipment that you are looking for too, like low emission equipment or what ever and balance the power off all of it so you don't fire a laser and drain everything lol.

a lot is going to go into just getting 1 ship into its ideal equipment.

the question is do you want to start getting gear on a 300i which is a more all around ship, or on the hornet which is more combat focused.

if you never plan to get out of a single seater ship the hornet might be near the apex combat wise. but if you really want to expand you can buy ships likely as large as destroyers in game not sure if we can "buy" anything larger than that tho and then there is everything in between. so there is a lot of room to grow from a single seat fighter.

edit, my currently planned starting hangar will have an m50, super hornet, connie, tali and i don't feel like i am not going have anything to work at and progress to, just outfitting those ships is going to be a pain in the ass early on, going to be so expensive. i likely wont even take my retaliator or connie out of the hangar until i have the highest tier shielding and main thrusters i can find for them.

and when you think about the retaliator lol, i have to buy 8 tier 4 main thruster 2 tier 5 lol that is like upgrading a 300i's main thruster 8x over + just for the main thrusters on the tali haha.

but dont feel bad for me, lorien needs to gear up his idris. lol i am sure i will be helping with that tho.

Xi'an scout surprise sale announced on Around the Verse, starts tomorrow.

not sure i can justify getting one when i have an m50

i might melt my misc. ships and hold onto it until i really need to decide between my connie and tali or something chances are this scout will be in AC before we get to the multi crew ship phases of AC so i would at least get to try it out before i had to make a final decision on how to finish off my hanger.

if we just compare it to an aurora, it has roughly double the mass but 4x the max main thrusters, and more/larger maneuvering thrusters. so it is really hard to compare it to anything else.since we do not really know much about thruster progression between tiers.

one really nice thing on it tho is its max shield size is 4, which puts it in hornet shielding territory on a light and agile scout. but it sounds like its weapon loadout is rather light with no missiles.

Glad I picked one of these up already. Really liking it. Wonder if they'll variant it and if I should grab a second.

i think only the ships with commercials are getting variants you can pledge for, i could be wrong on that tho.

so you can assume connie, cutlass, retalaitor variants.

if they make more commercial polls then maybe we will see other variants to more ships.

which means avenger, would likely get one from the next poll

not sure what might get one after that if the polls kept going since retaliator and avenger had the majority

i am disappointed in no m50 variants but not sure it really needs any either since its a pretty focused racing/intercepting vessel

So how much money have you guys put into this game? I checked the website and it seems pretty steep..

my account says $1015

but i think i only actually have around $400 into the game.

with about $705 in current ship assets.

so reading more about the scout, it seems like it is actually supposed to be the Xi'an hornet as far as actual classification.

it is labeled scout for the civilian version due to the lighter weapon load out it comes with.

i wonder if you can get the upgrades needed to get it back to military spec like what ever weapon turrets might be missing similar to how the hornet has canard and ball turret upgrades

I spent WAY to much lol.. I will probably hit Grand Admiral at some point before release :(

On a happy note though I already have a Xi'an scout so I don't need to buy one. I'm not sure how I feel about the concept art so far. It just hits me as odd, I shall smoke a cigar and drink and contemplate the design :)

yeah i wont be hitting grand admiral. i am rather surprised i am at high admiral.

a little disappointed my citizen card will be vice admiral tho. maybe some day they will do another run and i will order a second one.

i am just happy my card is not stuck with a rear "butt" admiral and it was a vice admiral.

I think my card will be high admiral, but I have the feeling that I will be hitting grand admiral. where upon I will change my name to Thrawn :p

The thing is you don't have to spend a lot. Every ship, weapon, engine, powerplant, shield, etc. etc. can be bought with in-game credits that you earn by completing missions.

The basic starter ship game package is $40, which also includes beta access. if you had pledged earlier that package would have been only $35 and would've come with alpha access. If you consider the full retail price of a game today being $60-70 that seems like a pretty good deal.

yeah it is like pre-ordering at a pretty big discount, while also being able to test and help improve it a long the way.

CiG does listen to the community and takes in a lot of valuable feedback that makes sense.

no one forces us to spend more than the initial pledge package on more ships, but some of us just want to own them, and it does save you some time in the game not having to spend the initial cost of the ship in credits to get the one you want. instead you can put the credits you would of spent on the ship on upgrades for the ship. which will not be cheap by any means.

and also owning the ship is only part the the fun, almost think of the ship hull as a brand new character from an rpg where you want to outfit the gear on that ship to best work together, getting the ship hull is not really that significant its like starting with a fresh character, you still need to find/loot or buy the gear you are looking for, blow a wing off a UEE hornet and hope the weapon he was using is still in good working order and scoop it up maybe repair and fix it up if it is slightly damaged and then you have your self a military grade weapon just as an example of looting some new gear.

you might need to find the right black market dealer for a piece of gear you are looking for too, and lets not forget about overclocking equipment... you might get a cherry piece of gear that overclocks better and degrades slower than every ones so you can get a slight edge.

sigh i want to play in the PU now!

So i got a hornet thru grey market with alpha and beta. If I were to break it down to credits will I lose my alpha and beta access? Seems like that is the case from what I am reading. I keep wavering about the hornet. I felt I will always need a dogfighter/escort but cutlass seems more well rounded. Also felt like I could take an aurora LN for exploration and other roles outside of combat until i can afford larger ships like connie. Not sure if hornet is a good choice or if I am better off with a more versatile ship.
