The Altcoin Thread

The thing is though, it's dipped before and then started going up even stronger the very next day. So, ya, very hard to determine where to sell (or not).

Edit: WOW! This is getting insane. 43000+ satoshis and still rising. I can say for certain that BC was the best week of mining I ever spent.

Edit#2: Super insane! Just hit 55000 satoshis.

I don't think anything will ever get anything near it. And after PoW week things were looking really dismal with BC too.

I have about 8k BC and I'm so happy I do. Spent some time mining on the multi pools as well and I'm really glad I did. Still mining on the BC multi, even though the BC income will be small now due to the skyrocketing price, it will add to the buy pressure to drive the price up more and I'll keep getting more (even small amounts) as it rises.

To sell or not to sell - I would hate to have my 4+ BTC holding in BC drop back down to .5 BTC.

If you're sitting on massive gains I would sell... maybe keep a few thousand just in case. I can't see it going much higher, the current value already seems ridiculous at this point in time even though I like the coin.

Do it like the smart traders do: sell half, keep the other half. Worst case scenario, you still had 3x profit.

That is true... that is what the smart traders do.

In my case, I've never been a smart trader and I'm not gonna start now! LOL!

I'll sell when it hits the moon!

I have a bet going with a guy on bitcointalk for 50 bc. He says it is hitting a $1 by this coming sunday, I said that's too fast. This is a bet that I would have no problem being wrong on being that it would net me over six figures.

So is anyone mining with their SHA hardware on BCPool?
And if so does it also pay out in BC?

I put a sell order for half of my BC (3500) at 60000. When I came back home BC was at 95000... Kinda regretting. :D

This doesn't just seem like a pump to me, it's going up at a steady gradual pace. I don't see it stopping soon, every time I open up Mint I'm amazed by how much more it progresses.

Let's see, $1 would be about .002 BTC? Is that correct? We're basically half way there...

ive made more with BC in the past 5 days than I have mining LTC the past few months.... lol

I'm a long term kinda guy -- its going really high really fast which is scary and exciting. I've always cashed out in the past for a quick profit -- do I want 1000 dollars now? or wait 6 to 10 months and get 10,000 dollars? (nobody knows what it will do I'm just being super optimistic)

For the amount of time/energy i've put into it, I'm willing to hold on for a big pay off. I made money with BTC, made some with LTC, i want a really big pay off with BC hopefully and that just requires being patient.

I only have ~ 1300 BC at the moment. going to keep mining/buying steadily and hopefully end up with enough to make a chunk of my house principle so I can get that stupid PMI insurance taken off (instant reduction of 80 per month on my mortgage)

I don't know man, 200%+ in a day is not exactly a gradual increase. There will be a crash at some point.

Are the BC payouts (transfer) at 12AM now?
The FAQ is a little outdated about the SHA side of things.

BC did previously fall from a 9500 peak all the way back down 3860 low. You have to go back to the week of March 23 - March 31 to see that. I wonder if we are going to see the same exact trading pattern at the current 10x of those prices. There is some huge money involved now. It passed $6 million 24h trade volume today. That's as high as LTC on some days.

I would welcome a price in the 30000's again, though I don't think it's going that low.

Heck I don't think it will even drop past the 50000's. But that's just my feeling.

Not sure where everyone is trading, but looking at Craptsy charts, it seems a lot like a pump and dump to me. I also see that someone with ~50 BTC could move the market up to 80000 with little to no effort based on the sell book. Likewise, the same amount would drop price by 10-15k if it were dumped...

It got down to 30k, my buy order was fullfilled. I wish I had put a bigger buy order. :D

Mintpal, why are you still wasting time on Craptsy? :D

After seeing the dip into 19k at around 3:30 this morning, I dumped everything on the pop between 33-45k. It looks technically weak chart-wise and I anticipate we'll be entering the teens again. Missed out on around $50k of actual profit on top of the profit I already made selling when I did. I will re-evaluate when the dust settles. I figured I would dump then when the majority of westerners are sleeping because when the wake up, it wouldn't look too pretty. Sucks too because I do think this coin has a good shot at the number three spot, definitely should be a top 5 contender. This was the main concern I had over on btctalk was about the rise too fast without suitable levels of consolidation for sellers to exit and longs to accumulate. When the rug was finally pulled, there was no levels of support to hang on to and panic lead to more panic.

I no longer need to sell my farm with the profit I made from BC. That, and it covered all my credit card and student loan debt as well as more left over (perhaps some sort of expansion with the cheap cards available). Not really sure though since scrypt asics are around the corner and I haven't really seen a great surge in X11 or other gpu-friendly algos.

I would say that's a victory. Pay off your debts, cherry pick some cheap cards and use the rest to pay power out of.

Used it for Doge trading as they've got a huge amount of volume. Mintpal seems to be doing gangbusters volume with BC but still not much for Doge.

60k BC (exactly 50% of my coins) sold @ .35. Not bad for only six hours of mining at launch.

^That's awesome

It's why I turn a significant portion of my hashing power to any new coin @ launch. Worst-case I'm out six hours of electricity costs, best case.. well, BlackCoin.

Risks like these put me in the black long ago. Now it's just fun. I kind of wish I had mined more BC, though.. at least the first 48 hours. Would have made a return in the low-middle six figures.

Oh well. Opportunity cost and all that. This is basically just a hands-off second job + hobby all wrapped into one for me, anyway.

So then, what do you think is the next big thing? I've been mining BC for a couple of weeks now, but that has been getting less "profitable" from a quantity standpoint.

Kind of a magic 8-ball situation, I spray-and-pray by hitting all new coins for a short period but very infrequently does it pay off. Actually, BlackCoin is the biggest payoff yet.

However, it's significant.

Personally, I think AsiaCoin has a good chance - but only if they adjust to x11 before launch. I feel Scrypt will kill it, even if the entire thing will be mined in two weeks (specifically because all it's going to take is a single Titan aimed at AsiaCoin to screw over everyone). Maybe I'm wrong.

It's going to be really interesting to see where BC goes from here. The multipool will still provide well over ~50 BTC of buy support per day with its hash power, if 50+ BTC were dropped right now would clear out the order book back up into the 40s.

Add me to the list of biggest payoff yet with BC. That's a once in a lifetime kind of coin. And I will continue to support it. There's no reason not as its been very good to me, and I'm not up for going through another 1000 shit clones before I find the next BC. :p

I have done really well for BC just kicking myself though on how well I could have done if I wasn't short term greedy.

Congrats to all that made out like bandits on this latest BC pump!

As usual, my stupid trading skills allowed me to miss out on some great profit. But then of course, all of the action happened while I was at work or asleep. When it hit 80000 and 90000, I was at work. By the time I got home and was able to access my BC wallet, 50000's. Saw that it was heading up a bit again and decided not to do anything impulsive at the time I went to sleep for the night. Woke up in the morning... 30000's. Just friggin' awesome. Oh well, such is my luck.
