3770 + 780 ti sufficient?

The main purpose of this rig, at the current time, is just plain gaming. I currently play BF4 on low settings and it feels really outdated. I am currently running with a i7 LGA 775 2.93ghz (forgot exactly which cpu), a GTX 550 ti and 6gb ram. I put a last minute order in on Cyber Monday, and have a 3770k, and a GTX 770 on the way. After some reading I came to the decision that I will send the 770 back for a GTX 780 ti. I was debating if I should get go to the Haswell line.. though from what I gather the 3770k will get the job done and allow me to save a few bucks and go after a hexa or octo core cpu/mobo next year? Will the 3770k carry the GTX 780 ti well or will it be my bottle neck on the new release games? I do intend on overclocking, and the 3770k will be cooled by a Corsair H100i.

Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Also, what is the recommended amount of RAM these days? Is 32gb overkill? As you can see from my signature the last time I really put some research in to a build was quite a while ago.
 
16GB is about max you will need these days. 32 is absolutely overkill unless you can leverage that much.

that I7 will be MORE than enough for a single 780ti any day of the week. Just make sure you have enough PSU to run that chip board ram and gpu without maxing out your power delivery.

I play on a 3930K and the only games that can truly even begin to tap it's horsepower is BF3 and 4. A few other titles but you get the jest of it.
 
1. Make sure you have a Z77 board if you're overclocking.

2. If you're running an OCed 3770k + OCed 780Ti, the 750w you picked is enough but there may be better deals around (will wait for feedback from other people from the USA who may be more attuned to local newegg/amazon deals). If you don't plan to run an SLI 780Ti, then a good 650watt PSU should be more than enough with breathing room. (A good 550 watt unit will probably work though).

3. No need to upgrade to Haswell; the 3770K stock is enough to carry the 780Ti.

There are no i7 LGA775 CPUs. What is your current CPU? If it's the original i7 920 (LGA1366), even that would be enough for the 780ti in 99% of games, especially overclocked to 3.8+ ghz.
 
Read H's review of the 3770k vs. 4770k. I have a 3770k running trifire 7970s.... for BF4 my CPU usage is around 50%.

My take is the 3770k almost equivalent to the 4770k if you're OCing (on average OCs easier).

Stock I think the 4770k is around 10% faster? You won't notice that... been a while since I read reviews

I was wrong. I have an Asus P7P55D-E which is an 1156. I'm not entirely sure what CPU it is because I don't have the box or order history. In my system control panel it says an i7 2.93ghz K875. Perhaps my current rig just needs a fresh wipe and some new ram to wake it up, because it doesn't appear to run as well as it should.

For my 3770k I picked out an Asus P8Z77-V Pro and a 4x4gb G.Skill 2133 ram.
 
There were three i7s for 1156, one is the i7 860 at 2.8 ghz, one is the i7 870 at 2.93 ghz, and one is the i7 875k at 2.93 ghz. Those will overclock just as well as the 920. Bring it up to 4.0+ (easily capable of that with a good cooler) and you would be set for any single GPU setup for at least a year. If you have the 875k, that has an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking. You should download CPU-Z to check.

Not saying that the 3770k wouldn't be better, but the i7 860 won't bottleneck you for quite a while to come. Also, Ivy Bridge doesn't really benefit from RAM faster than 1600 mhz CAS 9 in 99% of programs. Battlefield 4 may be an exception, but that remains to be seen.

yeah

I would just keep what you have (but still upgrade the videocard). Overclock your cpu and fresh OS install. If you 8GB of DDR3 1600 that is sufficient.
 
Be sure to get an SSD too, you can fit windows + bf4 onto the 64gb ones. It makes a HUGE difference.

If your not going to be adding more cards later, or a bunch of regular old style drives, anything 550watt+ (a quality one) is plenty of power. If you might go sli, get an 850watt.

You can run a 3770k + 780 TI with a quality 450watt psu, but a little more available isn't a bad idea.

Interesting. My SLI 680's can get my 3770k up to 90+% utilization. Are you on Windows 7 or 8?

I'll bet that's your issue right there. Under Windows 7 both my CPU usage was around 60% and GPU utilization was 50% on both cards. With Windows 8, I'm seeing 90+ on the CPU and 80+ on each GPU with a boost in performance to go with it.
 
Perhaps. I run at 1200p with ultra/150% video scaling and it's smooth (~75 FPS) I don't have the $ to upgrade the OS right now for one game.. powering through the inefficiency anyways :)

Anyways, I think your info also backs up that a 3770k is fine with a 780ti.
