Hello

I have already installed my ESXi 5.5 on USB stick. (4 GB)

Im not sure, but when logs growing, i have problem to save some configuration.

For example after reboot my VM tree list is missing.
(it is still on storage RAID6)

but i had to every single one add it by manually.

So main question.
How can i manage/clear etc... every syslog from ESXi ??

The vCenter media comes with Syslog software you can run on vCenter or standalone server. After that's installed, complete the following on your hosts:

First, make sure that syslog ports are enabled on your host firewall.

Then in your host under Configuration, Advanced settings, syslog.global.loghost enter tcp://syslog server FQDN or IP:514

Validate on the syslog server that a folder with your host name or ip shows up in the log path you specified.

Hi

I have free version, without vc.
Sowhen i setp up syslog server, after that data will be send to external server ?
so then what about my usb stick ?
logs will be on usb ans server with logs ? or what ?

Not sure on the free version, to be quite honest..i've haven't used it or needed to use it in a long time.

With the licensed non-free version, I know that if you setup a syslog server and follow the directions I listed, that's where the logs will go.

Can't store logs on USB, we'd kill it. You need a syslog collector of some kind.

I want some syslog solution where i can manage it from http (web) interface :)
And it must be free :D

??

Use NFS mount to another server for the syslogs? We run SSDs on our Hosts for VFRC with ESXi 5.5 installed on 2GB SD cards, so we send our logs not only to a syslog server but to a NFS mount with a dir for each host.

I dont need NFS.

Just aplication, vm which will be taking from esxi logs

ps.

Anyone is able to paste all location in ESXi5.5 logs location ?
