Hey everyone, I thought I'd put up a ticket in general for people to check out if they're considering a new console. The idea is to add a game, mention the console, and why it's a game to consider for that console.

Please try to keep it about the games themselves, try to keep the conversations civil, and post counter arguments about why you'd have reservations recommending a game that has been added, rather than posts of "it sux" or something to that effect.

For instance, I've heard that most people have been looking forward to Killzone for the PS4, or Dead Rising for the Xbox One. I've not played either, so feel free to comment on either game, or suggest others.

Spent the weekend playing Knack, Killzone and AC4 on my ps4. All three games are wicked fun. Knack was seriously underrated. It's a basic platformer, but it's a lot of fun and very good looking. I would definitely check it out. The other 2 speak for themselves.

My mind is blown at people dropping such huge sums of cash on these systems without a single monster launch title. They are all just generic bullshit. There just aren't any monster exclusives/first party titles even close to being released, right?

I won't touch a PS4 or Xbox One until there are some awesome games. I guess I'm a Nintendo fanboy at heart even though I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the N64.

Got to agree that Knack is a fun game and a bit underrated. How is killzone? I might pick it up next week.

I also pick up NFS: Rival but did not get a chance to play it.

You should check out Res0gun - great game. Free if you a ps plus member.

Killzone is gorgeous. Typical FPS with some little quirks thrown in. I am enjoying it though, have been a big fan of the series and this is a big step up for them.

Knack is pretty terrible in the sense it's generic as hell. It's fun playing with my son on easy but goddamn the game is unforgiving on Hard.

Like fuck you is why Hard.

I know you're not trying to start anything, but do you mind leaving that out of the thread? Comment on your experiences with a game is fine, but I don't want to start a "early adopting is stupid" or "x console is dumb and everyone who buys it is dumb". I was hoping to leave this for comments on the games as much as possible.

I know you didn't mean it like that, but let's try not to encourage those posts. Thank you.

As an old school on-rail shooter fan, Crimson Dragon looks pretty fun. Media reviews seem to view the game in a negative light/ positive light depending on their background and genre preference. The on-rail shooter certainly has waned in popularity over the years. For a $20 game, it looks pretty cool to me.

EDIT: On second thought, it might be crap. Come on Star Fox U.

This, this, this. If anything these console launches are making me want to play a real console again, like the NES, SNES, N64, PS, PS2, Wii. Now I'm fucking hype for the new Zelda for the 3ds. Anyways, hope yall are having fun.

Dude, I'm considering buying a 3ds JUST for that ONE game lol

For PS4...

Bought:
BF4
FIFA14
AC4

Thinking about buying:
NFS Rivals
NBA 2K14

Waiting to go on sale:
KZ
CoD Ghosts
Madden 25

Historically COD games do not go on sale often. But NBA 2K14 is fantastic but don't get it unless you actually enjoy the sport. Some people are buying it because how impressive the graphics are.

I've heard this a couple times - that NBA2K14 is fantastic. I've never played a basketball game before, though I am a huge fan of FIFA and do watch NBA on the rare occassion. Will probably get FIFA14 first (held off getting it on the PS3 to try the PS4 version) and maybe pick up NBA2K14 later on discount.

Played Forza on Xbone. Going to be a great racing game if you're into those.

Ryse also looks very sweet.

Forza
Ryse
Xbox One

If you're a NFS:MW fan, Rivals is pretty fun, despite the locked frame rate. Apparently from reviews I've been reading, the PS4 version is graphically better than the PC version too.

If you set aside $10/month for 5 years in a 1% interest checking account you'll have $625 to spend for the next console launch so you can buy the next generation console and a few games and not have to make a sour puss post about not having one like this time

People place value differently, thats all there is to it. A console in general, is a long term investment, a longer term investment than my PC is. Chances are i'll build at least one more rig before the successors to the PS4 and XBox one are even announced.

Ill blow your mind even more by saying ive spent more on a pen than either of these consoles retail at (actually on multiple occasions ive done that. Own 3 pens with higher value than the PS4, one at higher value that the Xbox one)

It's not the money. $400-600 is not really THAT much. It's the fact that there are no games. Generic racing or FPS games. If there was one monster launch title, I'd have dropped the cash on one of the systems myself.

Are any of these games really "must play" or even close to it? I guess being that there aren't many games for launch then they are must plays for those who bought a console :D

I am surprised how good NFS Rivals really is. I havent liked an NFS title in a LONG time.

But you're fine paying double or more on a PC that plays GTA V?

I've been pro-PC forever but am open minded so decided to spend $400 on a PS4 instead of a video card upgrade. PS4 has a lot fewer headaches than upkeeping a PC.

I wouldn't say that anymore. Console games now have huge software installs and require you to constantly upgrade your hard drive. You also have no backwards compatibility. Without the "just put the disc in and play" capability, consoles are losing one of the biggest advantages they used to have.

I disagree, if anything now that consoles are more connected I believe they are even more at an advantage. The developers can fix things that before were just things we had to deal with if a game had a bug/issue. Most internet connections are fast enough now so that this updating isn't that big of a deal anyways.

I do believe Sony announces they were releasing a software that would allow backwards computability with PS3 games called "Gaikai" later in 2014. I don't know about the Xbox One

That "Gaikai" is supposed to be a streaming service requiring a fast and stable internet connection, if it comes into fruition.

I have these games for my PS4:

Killzone - Great graphics. The campaign is pretty generic. I don't think that would be such a big deal if it wasn't a cornerstone launch title. Pretty good multiplayer. I can FPS with analog sticks, but not quite as well as most people online. For multiplayer FPS, I think I'm a PC/mouse/keyboard person for better or for worse.

NFS: Rivals - Reasonably fun. I've spent maybe an hour with it.

Resogun - Crazy scary fun and addictive. Makes you wonder why we bother with cinematic AAA titles. We need a Resogun support group.

Contrast - My wife plays it. Worth it just for that.

Got AC4 for xb1. Its the only game on next gen I want to play now. In a couple months I'll probably get the other launch titles when a buy 2 get 1 free sale happens at a gamestop.

Was hoping Ryse would be decent game but the reviews pretty much confirmed my initial impression of the game.

It mean seem like flame bait but to some degree its true. I love my gaming PC but sometimes I just want shit to work and not to have to fiddle with so many different possible reasons why something won't work.

Other times I want the superior experience a PC game can offer.

But it stands to reason why its appealing to someone to simply plug and play. Getting BF4 to work on the PC during its launch brings to mind lots of wasted time and playing around with dozens of different possibilities as to what could be causing the problem.

Unless you're a kid with a lot of free time tinkering gets old to a point where you just things to work. Just wasted a lot time playing video driver Russian roulette to find an older video driver version that doesn't blue screen while playing full screen YouTube and to disable Windows 8.1 driver auto update as it's separate from the 'notify but don't download and don't install updates' I had already configured.

Unfortunately, Ryse is like Crysis. All efforts put on graphics, which ends up having a crappy gameplay.

Like every other game Crytek has ever made. I don't get why people thought Crytek could produce a quality day one launch game.

Such things are made from dreams

This is me. I used to do the whole build PC and tinker thing, now I just have an iMac and play games on consoles.

I am enjoying Knack and Killzone on my Ps4. I have AC4 for the PS4 and it' still on it's wrapper. Work has been keeping me to busy to enjoy the games.

Would Killzone play better on bigger monitor I found the gameplay generic too mainly cause I couldn't see what I was doing. I think they added too much sun flares and cramped gameplay to where it's not very exciting... really disappointed in the game...

Just picked up a PS4 and AC4. I will wait for KZ to go on sale. Resogun is a must purchase for me though. Does the 30 day trial of Playstation + let me get Resogun or will I need a 12 month account?

Based on what I've played so far these are the best games:

PS4:
RESOGUN
Killzone

XB1:
Killer Instinct
DR3

Both:
NFS Rivals
BF4
