4770k for $199.99 AT MC, 3 days only

Even at stock clocks the chip gets hot and delidding helps it run a lot cooler.

It is a K model and has the unlocked multiplier which is designed to be helpful when over clocking.

Despite it being an unpopular chip for over clocking because it gets so hot at $199 its a great chip. Enjoy.

We get it, it runs hot.
Even with the stock cooler the thing might barely hit 80 at full load, which is still over 25C from max temp.

It will be fine, just relax

Don't you just have to call MS?

I had my GF call Tustin Microcenter based on the information above. Website says 0 in stock and has said that for weeks now. She told me the person she talked to said they have over 100 in stock and the price is $199. They also said the sale was still good tomorrow? Not sure on that last part, but GL!

Well, the Houston website now reads ZERO. I chatted with a rep and they confirmed. I have a friend checking there now, let's hope the count is off.

The sale should be good through tomorrow.

Just thought I would give a shout out to the user keokio. He offered to purchase a 4770k for me and send it at cost. Really nice of him to go out of his way to do this. Props to you keokio and thank you again for doing this !

Awesome, Keokio. Good on ya! Do we have any other Keokio's out there? ;)

Guy at my central OH Microcenter said they'd gotten a shipment of 4770k's just this morning. They had a whole stack of them.

Any reason I shouldn't give this chip the ultimate pass/fail test of swapping my current 4670k for it without touching BIOS settings?

Long Island has FIVE in stock atm

Ughhh....I drove to Yonkers to pick mine up because I saw it was out of stock in Westbury a couple of days ago. The Yonkers MicroCenter location is horrible...I drove around the perimeter of the mall like 5 times trying to figure out how to get up to the store.

Just got home from picking mine up though. :)

Forgot about the coupon! Is it inside the cpu box?

LOL, I called the MC in NE Ohio and they said they had like 130+ in stock. I just installed mine less than 20 mins ago :)

I reset all my cpu settings to Auto in the bios before replacing my 4670k. Also remember to enable HyperThreading. My first boot with the i7 had HT disabled still and had to reboot to enable it.

Woot, thanks you bastids! ;) Now I have 4 dormant parked HT cores.

You have to ask for it. They are probably on a tear away stack they just tear one off for each CPU you buy. You would have to go back with your receipt and convince them they didn't already give you one. Probably not worth the effort. Just goto the CPU product page and scroll down on the "overview" tab, and you'll see the "special offer" part, says ask a sales associate about details.

I went back for my $80 credit (which wasn't a problem at all), then they told me to go to the back where the PC parts section is for the FF game card. I went back there and asked for it and they didn't even ask to see my receipt, he just opened a drawer with a bunch in there and gave one to me.

Not interested in the game though, how much could I sell it for ya think?

Lol this made me laugh. Cuz i have the same damn problem when i arrive there.

The general concussions online seems that it isn't worth upgrading from a 2500k to a 4770k for gaming, but hell at this price I got the upgrading itch and it needs to get scratched. I suppose I'll use my profession of graphic design as a reason to upgrade...gotta help Illustrator crunch those bezier curves.

I'm thinking of going with the Asus Z87-A. Anyone have any suggestions for more bang for the buck? I don't have insane plans for OCing, but I'd like to get around 4.2ghz assuming my chip isn't total crap. I just haven't really kept up with any of this since SB, so I'm frantically trying to make up my mind last minute but not screw myself over.

Scored a 4770k & MSI GD-65 from the local PA-St Davids MC. Walked out @ 8:55PM!

I asked the associate to look for a Costa Rica chip w/ A or C stepping (C is really rare) but he said every CPU in stock was B stepping (B stepping = More Volt & less Heat)

Batch# 3332B365 (only 4 months old)

Costa Rica
MF Year 2013
MF Month August
Stepping B

Trying to decide if I should pick up an SSD since I'm reinstalling Windows anyway. Still haven't taken the SSD Plunge.

an ssd upgrade is where more of a noticeable upgrade.

Yeah already bought the game so I didn't really miss out...I don't think you would get more than $15 for the game

While this was a scorching deal, an SSD replacement would netted you a much better increase in overall performance.

Oh, and nice cpu/mb combo ;)

They ring up at $199.99 as I just walked in last night, asked for one, declined all the extras and got in line. Cashier scans the UPC code on the paper and $211.99 out the door with 6% MI tax.

Funny thing is the salesperson asked if I saw the "Flash Sale" (which I'm assuming is the email) and I said no, I saw it on HardForum and she said "you guys are killing our chip sales" so at least in Detroit area, CPU's going out the door but not a lot of extras going with them.

You need to get an SSD. Like, seriously. There's no excuse.

Just do it. :)

This is an awesome deal but a 120 would be enough for my OS and some other stuff but I'd end up parsing out my Steam library. Only ~95 GB usable after allowing 20% for TRIM.

Might as well go with the 250gb and be done with it. Though I'm tempted to grab this as it's dirt cheap!

We're killing their sales, lol. Sorry not everyone is a sucker MC, it pays to be a smart shopper.

I thought the $45 off the MSI board was pretty good as well (if you need a motherboard). I was also offered $10 off a ssd or ram as well.

Hmm.. Since the soonest I can go to Microcenter in Tustin is Saturday, I guess I'll have to wait for the next sale

Didn't need another mobo as I had already picked one up when I bought a 4670K a few weeks ago.

$279 is Micro center's normal, everyday, in store pickup price.

I think I just saw it somewhere else for that.

Keep in mind that to pick up in store means paying tax so that could make it more in line with the $300 number.
