FarCry 3 $20 @ Steam

Please convince me to buy this game. I am on the fence.

Sorry, no sale at this price. I learned my lesson with Borderlands 2 and that was a franchise I actually trusted. After FC2 and Crysis 2 it's hard for me to justify giving them any money at all (and I got those for 5 bucks each, which was still too much). Less than 10 bucks and including Blood Dragon or no sale (eta 1-2 years). It's ok -- I can wait.

Different strokes I guess. I think FC3 is well worth $20 and that BL2 is a fun game even though the save/resume functionality is the worst I've ever experienced.

That said, if you have a backlog of games currently, it can't hurt to hit those and wait until Steam holiday sales.

I'm more talking about the betrayal of cutting out the game's personality and censoring in heavily so they could claim it was "Uncensored Worldwide" which is a complete fucking lie when you censor something to get it approved in the first place. Did they think hardcore BL players wouldn't notice? Not to mention nickel and diming us to death with DLC and skins, fucking insulting. A lesson in how not to treat your fans, but sadly this behavior seems to be all the rage.

I guess I'm thankful I didn't play the original because I'm enjoying 2. I have a very simple solution for skins, I just don't buy them. It's hardly an integral part of the game. Sounds like a lot of nitpicking to me.

FFS not this again. You don't try to drain every last cent from loyal customers. It is not a solid business practise. Who thought this idea does anything but destroy brand loyalty? Is that what they intended? Over a few more dollars on top of the massive, direct profits that they make off fucking no-box digital sales? Get real. Greed destroys businesses.

Sounds like even more nitpicking and a false sense of entitlement now. Sorry, I just don't see the issue with not buying something you don't want to pay for especially things like skins that doesn't at all change the game dynamics.

I take it by "not this again" I'm not the first person to have said this. You'd think there's a good reason for that. ;)

That is the way they are going now with everything. That is why a lot of stuff is going "free to play" that way they can nickle and dime people and make a good amount of money. The reason is that if you sale an item here for $1 and an item here for $1. people might buy a few items a week and not realize that over the course of a year they spent $100 or more on little $1 items.

For those that have played the game. is there anything in there like the stupid sickness in 2 that required you make sure you found meds which somewhat forced you to play the game in a timely manor or can you just go around and kill people for the hell of it and have fun like if you were playing Skyrim or some game like that and wanted to ignore the missions for awhile?

I admit I do feel a sense of entitlement when I pay full price for a game but only 70% of the game is included, with another 10% available at launch as DLC, with the remaining 20% slowly milked through over the coming months. No amount of apologist bullshit will change my mind about that.

edit: but as I said, I learned my lesson already with Borderlands 2 and a couple other recent disasters. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.... can't get fooled again.

No meds req. Open world to explore and find loot and goodies. Lots of main, side, bonus, and job board missions throughout the game. Huge assorment of weapons and attachments for them to choose from. Very cool skill trees to character build with. No hokey shit like the last half of FC1. Well worth the 20 dollar bill here. This will cause a loss of sleep for evening players since it's so immersive and causes you to lose track of time irl.

The only thing that makes you feel you're being short changed is the mere existence of DLC. If the game was as is and never offered DLC you wouldn't be claiming you only got 70% even though the game is identical.

Thanks will have to pick it up then. Might get the deluxe version for $25 and get the extra mission packs with it.

Def get the deluxe. Allows you to get extra XP and choose skills quicker.

Radio towers first!

glad to see it finally drop under $20...but I've waited this long so I'll wait till the Steam Holiday Sale where it'll hopefully be under $14

You need to get back on your medicine because thats some crazy talk my man, Borderlands 2 is hella fun and so is FC3

Anyone not jumping on this for $20 is missing out

Might as well wait till the thanksgiving or Xmas sale.

Well obviously, because a lack of DLC would imply that he did receive all of the content that would be released. :p

I pirated this game and then purchased it full price after about an hour of playing. It was a blast and worth it to me. I liked the "feel" of this fps. Fast paced enough to feel exhilarating but not like Doom. Interesting enough story that kept me going. Personally I'm more a fan of story-driven FPSs than open world ones, and this one was a nice mix of both. I will admit I didn't complete the game 100% but more focused on the story.

True. We are coming up against the holiday sale where it was $20 during the summer sale (if I am remembering correctly) and I have plenty in the backlog to keep me busy. Maybe we will get to $15 and I will be in. I missed the water cooler talk when it first came out so it's not like I can recapture that moment in time anyway.

There is a small caveat to this. Your skill tree is not as accessible unless you do the main story missions.

I agree. However, it is entirely possible to go around killing random spawned enemies, gathering collectibles, or completing the side missions throughout the island(s) and still get more than enough XP for new skills. Not as fast as the main story missions, for sure, but what games really do?

If you can get past the consolised UI and unskippable cutscenes, it's a very good game.
Despite the fact that I Dispise Ubisoft for nickle and dimming people to death (that's a whole other issue and post though) :p I do believe this shooter is by far better than FC2 but I would still not cave in for 20 bucks... let alone if you buy it solely for Multiplayer purpose.

Multiplayers, all you need to do is visit the Ubisoft FC3 forums and you will see the many posts regarding Uplay being down, people not finding friends to play together, p2p servers being down, etc, etc... it is enough to make a Saint go Postal and UBI does not care on single bit, they got your money and they are already working on the next marketing gimmick.

The Campaign is better, much much better than the repetitive and stupid plot of FC2 but still, a bit of a fantasy shooter instead of a plain shooter because you have to collect animal skins in order to gain more XP... what happened with making a shooter where you just go and shoot people?

Then there is the never-ending-no-skipping cutscenes, for crying out loud... WHY??? :( I mean, one time is enough but if you have to go through them over and over, it takes away from the fun. Then there is the bad console porting to PC and some of the mouse keys not working. etc, etc.

I honestly believe that more than 10 bucks is a waste of your money but some people's thresholds are lower than most. So there, if this does not stop you from buying the game... go for it! :D

This isn't an Ubisoft only issue. A lot of companies are doing "DLC". I damn well prefer it in the day where DLC wasn't as prevalent, but if you don't like it, don't support it. There's better and more important things to bitch about.

No I'm saying, your skills are locked and say "play more missions to unlock this skill". Other than that, yea it's quite a bit more open and got rid of all the dumb shit (there was plenty of it) from FC2.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, the majority of the skill unlocks come from performing the requirements, but there are quite a few that aren't story missions, but rather side or job board missions. Or an ememy kill counter with a certain skill to get the upgraded version of said skill.

Regardless...bad ass game. I'm going through it again right now in my free time.

Oh yea for sure. Sorry if my original comment was cryptic. Didn't want the OP to be misinformed on something he specifically wanted.

I didn't really like BL2 that much but I loved FC3. Well worth $20... Amazing game.

Yeah, FC3 is one of the only games I've finished in ages. Got 100% on all the little goodies too, but I did those while drinking :)

Cool opening I saw on youtube but the protagonist is too much of a whiny b- for me to buy the game

I can understand why the hesitation. I got BL2 for free with a nvidia card and while it was fun for alittle while, I grew sick of it quickly. To me it was more of the same from BL 1. I picked up Farcry 3 on a whim for 30 bucks after reading good things but was still skeptical. I ended up playing the game for the majority of one of my vacations, it was so friggen fun and don't regret one penny of the price. For 20 bucks you get ALOT of gaming value, and FUN gaming value at that.

Out of all the things I said, you are only here nagging me about DLC when I didn't even use the word DLC? Aside from the fact that I clearly stated that was for an entirely other thread.

If there are better and more important things to bitch about... why are you here bitching about me? :D

This game is definitely worth $20 if you enjoy FPS's. Single player campaign is fantastic.

Borderlands 2 DLC is one of the better ones out there, almost up to 'expansion' quality. Their season pass pack is well worth the money and they didn't butcher the original game to create DLCs out of it. I actually wouldn't mind DLCs so much if every one of them were up to borderlands 2 standards. (quality or cosmetic).
