Xbox One Scores High Number of Preorders

Despite all the online moaning and groaning, it looks like Xbox One preorders are higher than Xbox 360 preorders. Not only that, but the Xbox 360 has been the number one selling console for thirty months in a row. What does this prove? Microsoft fans are still buying an Xbox and Sony fans are still buying a PS4, regardless what they say about each other. ;)

Preorders for the Xbox One have surpassed the number seen by the Xbox 360 during its prelaunch months, Microsoft has reported. The upcoming console has been sold out at most of its major retailers in the U.S. But the Xbox 360 continues to heat up sales. For the 30th month in a row, the 360 was the top-selling console in the United States last month as consumers bought more than 140,000 units.

Honestly, pre-orders mean nothing right now. The people that pre-ordered are just going to sell these on Ebay for $2000. It's what happens every new console release. For what reason are people pre-ordering Xbone or PS4? What games are compelling people to want these?

No, it's people buying them to sell on Ebay for one hell of a profit.

Preordering a console at this point is sort of dumb.

I'm just going to wait and see if either company decides to add a "DRM" update shortly after release.

The fact that XBOX360 orders have not slowed down says alot. XBOX One is not much of an upgrade.

If the XBOne preorders are 1/2 as good as the surface preorders, I'm sure they'll do fine...

I'll wait, see how the consoles fare after a while and what kind of bugs start to happen to them. Hope fully MS learned their lesson and no more of RROD on this new console. I pick one up on sale in the future.

We all know:

PS3 owners are going to buy a PS4.

Xbox 360 owners are going to buy a Xbox One.

PC owners will still laugh at their last-gen hardware, watered down graphics and paying for online multiplayer. :D

Misleading article title of the day, and its not even noon yet.

I can remove you from the news forum so you don't have to deal with that any more. Just say the word.

Might as well say "all the pre-orders are for people who don't care how the first batch are having failures", I take the same approach with consoles, wait for at least six months.

Those people are just early adopters. They want bleeding edge. Any smart techie would know not to get the first release of anything. But you don't have to be a smart techie to enjoy technology these days. So *shrug* I'm waiting too. Let those EA's beta test it for me. Plus I'm not buying a console till after I beat GTAV anyway so there's that...

I said the same thing except that PC owners will just watch with amusement while they enjoy their games they can already play now. Eventually they'll pick up a console at their leisure. But there is no rush. For one thing, just their Steam backlog will keep em busy for at least a year or two.

I just bought a 3rd gen Xbox 360 Slim to replace my broken down 1st gen one. I need it for use in the bedroom but I already pre-ordered Xbox One for the living room (where I have a lot of space for Kinect games).

Sorry Sony, we broke up after the PS2 glory days and I have never regretted that decision. I hear you are now selling a lot of insurance over in Japan to pay for your PlayStation operations. Good for you!

:D

Except that I am currently a PS3 owner and almost definitely moving to Xbox One. Although about 90% of my gaming is still on PC.

Ho.. ho.. ho!

OK.. I'll confess.. my elves don't make ALL the toys I give out each year. Sometimes I just have to get some things off of Amazon, Walmart, etc. and perhaps it results in some hording by me which causes items to be OOS, which I am very sorry for. But you know I just can't wait until December 24th to start shopping for everyone. It does take some planning to deliver over half a billion presents in one night!

Merry Christmas!

Vastly outperforms on what basis? They're console games. They're tailored to the hardware. Pure hardware specifications are largely useless for consoles.

Steve,

You should know that the internet is just for people to bitch and complain. Most of these people making these claims are probably going to out and buy one anyways. :D

The PS4 vastly outperforms the XBONE, so I don't see your point here.

Wow, I am sure glad these systems are currently out for you to do such an exhaustive test on their capabilities...

Last I checked the only real difference was a more shaders for the PS4 and it uses DDR5, but the Xbox has cached RAM to help the efficiency of the system.

Also the PS3 was supposedly more powerful than the Xbox 360, yet many felt the Xbox 360 had better overall performance for games. Also the UI for the Xbox 360 was superior as was the online offerings. This seems to be the same pattern for the Xbox One vs the PS4. Still a better UI, still better online functionality, and now even more Media center capabilties. Not to mention the Kinect is still far far better than anything Sony has to offer.

So I get real confused when people say how the PS4 is going to blow the Xbox out of the water... I got the PS3 based on components, open platform possibilities, and blu-ray, but the PS4 does not have the blu-ray advantage this time. Also Sony completely lost me as a customer when they locked the PS3 and no longer allowed people to install Linux, which was a big selling point originally for them.

+1 with you here... I chuckle when people talk about hardware performance. All the same banter occurred with PS3 vs 360 and I am pretty sure there are few instances where people can really tell a significant difference.

Just one quick google got this comparison of Far Cry 3. http://www.lensoftruth.com/heads-up-far-cry-3-screenshot-comparison-and-analysis/

As I have always said, I have a PS3 because of the Blue-ray player. I will compare both the xb1 and ps4 again on features, price and usage (need gold sub, maybe upnp media features etc), then exclusive titles, then maybe performance if at all.

I find it ironic that the people who say console gamers are whiny little bitches, themselves, are forum-raging over which console beats which, spec-wise, and say that PC gaming is far superior in every way over consoles that haven't even been released yet; on a PC forum, no less.

Panties have been bunched.

But duuuuude it has seven cores!

Pissed off a friend who kept spouting off on why the PS3 is 'better' then the Xbox360 and how I was wasting my money on it. Asked him to google which games used those SP cores on the PS3 and get back to me. This is just an example of someone trying to feel good about their purchase by believing anything they see/read on the internet. Its going to be the same with the PS4 vs One.

As a 360 owner, I'm looking at the PS4 pretty hard. I am debating the XBone. It's a nice system and going to have some great games, but there are things I don't like. Kinect is one. I found the biggest reason I don't play with the current one besides the lack of games. Front projector. If I stand up to where the Kinect works, there is a big shadow on the screen. First world problem, I know.

I love consoles and always have (aside from the C64 & NES days. I was a computer guy then because I could make my own games instead of just playing others). After my Sega Master System, I was hooked. But, I've played and continue to play PC games. Weird thing is I own some games on both platforms.

I have an XBox One pre-ordered, along with a PS4. I haven't decided which one to go through with yet. I don't want both right away (although I do want the controller and box from the first day release on the Xbox).

People are still buying 8 year-old tech?????? LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it still looks damn good for using the hardware it does. Some of the newer games are really pushing the hardware. I say well done to the developers. :)

You guys argue about the specs and shit. I'm going to go play some games.

Where's your proof?

What?

PS4 has:
More GPU power (upwards of 40%)
Significantly faster memory throughput

And both systems share the same basic platform (expected 1.6-2GHZ jaguar 8-core). It is inherently faster. This is not like comparing CELL to the Xbox 360's PowerPC based chip.

We're comparing apples to apples here. The XBONE is already technically inferior.

Console sales are just indicators of the Lemming way. Follow the leader over a cliff and never mind the fall. Enjoy the restrictive bs policies and overpriced hardware and software.

Not buying either and enjoying my $40 web browser laptop, $200 HTPC aka console to watch movies, tv and light gaming like nba 2k13 on the big screen and $900 gaming pc that can run any pc game at max settings 1080P.

Lol. This dumb little debate will always be subjective because the fact remains that when the cross-platform games drop they will be developed for the lowest common denominator which according to the reported specs will be the XB1.

And the circus goes on.

"The PS4 vastly outperforms the XBONE, so I don't see your point here."

So your "proof" supporting your above statement is some snippets from a spec sheet. That's concrete, man.

Both systems are still 4 months from being available, give it a few years after that then you can discuss which is "better". Until then you are just talking out of your ass.

Cool story, you and 10 other people missed Linux.

I disagree. Microsoft has shot itself in the foot with its halfassed rush of the XBONE. Again, the platforms are shared, the CPUs are identical, both are running x86 programming. The core difference is the massive GPU superiority of the PS4 as well as the outrageous difference in memory bandwidth. APPLES. TO. APPLES.

Cool story, you and 10 other people missed Linux.

If by 10 other people, you mean huge contracts by corporations and the government that created massive PS3 farms based on the technology which required them to be formatted with Linux, as well as thousands of complaints around the world from individual users...then yes.

But I appreciate your uninformed opinion just the same ;).

The half assed release...right. So again, where is your proof of actual gameplay performance? Not to mention all the extra features that Xbox delivers on its "inferior" technology which Sony does not have? What about the fact that the current generation had Sony's "far" superior hardware and yet that didn't translate to games?

There is no "massive" GPU superiority. There are "specs" that say one has more power than the other. But remember the PS4 also has NO caching for their system. They rely entirely on the DDR5 bandwidth. And an APPLES TO APPLES comparison would involve actually playing games and evaluating REAL WORLD performance. Not your phantom pre-release spec comparison.

To be honest given his line of work and choice of hobby, I think he already knows that :p

Realistically speaking though, I think anyone who is preordering the next gen systems with the intent of scalping them will be seriously disappointed. With the high sticker price of $500, I don't think there is much room to make a profit. On top of that, I don't think shortages will be the problem they were back on 11/22/2005 when I waited 12.5 hours to buy a launch day unit. The last gen consoles were based on some really high end specialized stuff. These new consoles are being based off of mostly parts bin stuff that is customized for console use. I also seem to remember that the scalping market fell apart for the PS3 as almost half of the launch units sold ended up being scalped with no one to buy it.

Initial PS3 scalping was working wonders. It was still the cheapest Blu-ray player around and Sony was having a really hard time producing the components for the player and maintaining stock. It took a few months but the scalping was limited as the price couldn't go higher then other BD players currently on the market. The Wii on the other hand was a whole nother story! :D

The government didn't need to update the firmware ;).

Thousands of complaints by the vocal minority. I've used Linux on my PS3 and it was utter crap, but I guess if people can't get a 300 dollar pc to do the same thing other than raw computations.
