because what I want to do is get the drive, run a full test on it through USB3... and then rip it open and use the drive in my server.

I want this because one of my drives in my media center is failing, but the drive that is failing is a hitachi pulled from an external enclosure, so I am leery.

Got mine today. For those interested this is the drive inside the enclosure. I don't know if this is rebranded for them or if they make their own drives?

Edit: After searching for "CoolSpin Technology" it seems this is a rebranded Hitachi drive.

HGST = Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, but purchased by Western Digital last year.

I think it's this one.. - EMCXPVM55

looks like some of the reviews are saying you can't use with as an internal drive if you remove it from the enclosure.. might pass on this.

edit - hrm.. maybe that was just some fool trying to use it as a boot drive.

I installed mine last night and it works fine. it needs to be GPT because its larger than 2TB

There was a promo code you had to use to get the money taken off. Then Newegg priced it to $129 without a code needed. Now that its back up to $179 you have to use the promo code again. Its listed somewhere.

Yes, if you click on the link, there is a promo code listed on the newegg page.

Special savings w/ promo code EMCXPVM55, ends 7/4

bit on this as well -- luckily I'm at work today (on July 4th lol) and saw it.

I already had a need for it as I'll be selling two 2TB drives and will need something to replace them. With the discount, I actually just increased my storage density AND made a nice tidy profit from what I sold them for :)
