Labeling fiber/copper

Mainly looking to see what you guys do to label fiber? And maybe even copper.


Currently we use label makers that print these annoying strips out. Its ugly, a pain to attach, and looks real messy when you have a chassis full of fiber.

Panduit Brady Markers. Take an exacto knife and cut the label in half. Label the fiber or copper as a "flag" label and not wrap it around the physical cable itself. Labels are printed from a Brother P-Touch on 1/2" label tape. 3 lines max, with to/frm information on label.

We use cable sleeves like this for all of our new network hardware installations

We use two per cable, one on each side so it can be identified on both the patch panel side and where it is actually plugged into equipment.

+1 This is pretty much the way we do it on all power/copper/fiber cables at all our data centres. We just don't use the sleeves, we simply wrap the label around the cable. "Flags" just look stupid in my mind and make the cabling look messy.

We use k-sun printers, and self laminating overwrap tape.

Where do you order yours from? cableorganizer.com? Which label printer do you use for them?

I will have to get back to you on which label printer we use, but I believe we order our sleeves through CDW-G

Edit: Here is the labeler we use - Panduit Label Maker Also, we use the the labels that have a portion that is white and the rest is clear.

Really? How come? Just wondering since I do have some fiber stuff I did not get around to labeling yet. Well most of the stuff behind my rack is not labeled yet as I plan to overhaul it. So I am definitely curious about the other options.

I'm guessing if you pull them to tight it will start to break the glass tubes inside the cable, the ones dmolter linked look like should eliminate that hazard.
