Currently on sale for $499!! Hopefully amazon will pick up on this and finally give us a normal pricing on this monitor

If you use it for work, just call Dell Small Business and get them to lower the price. I paid $450 for one of these as soon as it released. Even that deal on it wasn't enough, though, the monitor is worth about $350 with all of its shortcomings. The hardware calibration on this monitor does not work properly because the software doesn't properly load the right calibration adjustment for the GB-LED panel. Dell has yet to update it. I returned mine after a week.

It's currently $100 off; $499 directly from Dell plus tax and if you want faster than 5-7day shipping you pay for that too.

I received mine yesterday and I'm completely in love with it. The colors are stunning, I mean absolutely crazy good. It is IPS, so you get some IPS glow but it's not too bad. Very slight backlight bleed lower right corner, again not too bad.

No dead pixels, no bright ones either. The stand is very nice, quite adjustable. On the game profile, very very low lag that I can't really detect. Without it, a little too slow for fps but fine for anything else.

It's pretty much all I had hoped for.

Oh and Dell has software that can auto-switch the monitor mode depending on the app running, so you can let it switch into game modes automatically if you're so inclined, nice touch.

How is the AG coating on the U2413?

If you're bothered by AG, then it might not be for you. People have said it's better than the coating on the 2410. I wouldn't know, but if it is better, the 2410 must've been awful. I replaced mine with an NEC P232W and find it superior in every way other than size and aspect ratio.

Yea ive heard great things about the new AG coating. That's what steers me away from the older model or the hm

The AG is very light, it's the same as the H and HM but the HM has cross-hatching issues. If one does not need a wide gamut display this monitor is a waste of money. It does have an sRGB mode but the color settings are locked. NEC sells an sRGB 1920x1200 IPS with the same coating:

Yeah thats a nice monitor also, Im more a fan of Dell though. TFT Loved it also. The NEC has received okay feedback on these forums also..

TFT gave it a favorable review, but make no mistake, it's not a professional grade monitor as it's being marketed. The monitor has a nasty green tint especially in game mode, which you'll need to use in order to get the fast lag times. In game mode, manual controls are at a minimum.

While light, the AG coating on my monitor had an obnoxious glow on the lower left and right hand sections of the screen making black appear gray. If I moved to the left or right or got below the monitor, I could make one of the glow areas go away, but never both and certainly not ideal to be forced to sit completely off center.

The uniformity setting is pointless as it doesn't work. Calibration doesn't function correctly also, because the software currently has issues. So if you do hardware calibrate the monitor, the white point will always be off around 400 kelvin. Unless, of course, you go through the process of manually editing the software to work (I detailed the process in the 2713H forum), but will still return results that leave much to be desired.

On a dual monitor setup, the Dell connected to displayport and my 2nd monitor with DVI, the dell would randomly not wake from sleep. Even with the energy saving mode set to off, as soon as the Dell lost signal, say, a reboot or idle for x amount of time, the Dell wouldn't wake unless I forced it to cycle through the inputs, which would only work sometimes. I'd have to shut down completely in order to boot back up and have both monitors again.

With the USB3 hub connected, I received 2 BSODs. Now, this could've been an issue with my drivers, motherboard, etc., except that I never had a BSOD prior and haven't had one since returning the Dell.

If someone thinks this monitor is worth $600, by all means, throw your cash at it. In my opinion, it's not. Dell has marketed this panel with some very attractive features, but in my hands-on experience, some things worked well, while others sort of worked, while the most pro features weren't functional at all. I am blown away by how poor QC is these days, and not just with Dell. So many companies don't seem to care and the fact that we just keep buying the stuff, seems to support their approach.

For the price they are charging, you'd think QC should be at least be decent for this monitor. It basically sounds as if Dell wants to pretend (and charge accordingly) that this is a professional grade monitor, but with semi-working functions and just as bad QC as cheapo monitors.

And I too find it bizarre just had bad QC seems to be in general, from all companies. I'm afraid of the day that my current monitor breaks and I need to go shopping. You'd think that better QC would reduce costs in the end due to less returns, and a better reputation for the company overall. Look at Eizo, they can charge more than other companies simply because they have decent quality control -- not sure if that reputation is fully warranted for their low end monitors, but besides them, I'd have a hard time naming one other company that I'd feel somewhat safe buying from. Perhaps NEC... but they aren't exactly perfect either.

How much of the fault is with LG (the panel) vs the monitor manufacturers themselves? Do current IPS panels + backlighting just have lousier QC than older panels? That wouldn't really explain Samsung's QC issues though, since they make their own panels.

Thats really crappy about the QC. Its the luck of the draw lately with Dell monitors !

I haven't experienced any of the issues kundica writes about. No green tint or glare; my USB3 hub is fully functioning, no BSODs or weirdness; and no wake from sleep issues, though I did once have to re-seat the power cable to get the touch buttons to work. Though I'm not using the Dell software, as I found it pretty annoying and ultimately needless given how I use the monitor (MacBook Pro as the primary input, Windows gaming PC as a game mode only secondary input).

It would be nice if the uniformity control was available in more modes, but that's hardly a deal breaker for me. Whatever little quirks this monitor has fade away when you sit down in front of it, IMO. I'm pretty happy with it and I'm thinking about buying a second down the road.

We could reach the desired whitepoint with DELLs solution. Keep in mind that remeasuring with other devices will lead to an offset - even under consideration of the generic spectral characterization set used by the software which can't fully ensure maximum absolute accuracy (apart from other limitations). But we encountered a different bug: Every other calibration lead to the native whitepoint - regardless of the target settings. Only solution was to reset the display to factory settings prior to calibration. And like I already said, the software currently lacks the option of explicitly avoiding color space transformations while having at least rudimentarily control about whitepoint and trc.

Nice to hear some positives finally.

I just bought the Dell U2413 today. I also have the Dell 2740L which is nice, but it looks like these two have the same thing in common, bad overdrive / inverse ghosting? Like when you scroll a webpage, everything becomes motion blurred. I don't have this effect on my ViewSonics at work, nor on my Dell 2005FPW at home. I spoke with one person on the Dell forums who confirmed that it's pretty bad on the U2413. For the sake of testing one thing that improved things on the S2740L that I want to try on the U2413, I set the Brightness to 100% and contrast to 40% and noticed the blur is not really that noticeable anymore. Can anyone who owns the U2413 confirm if the overdrive is bad for them too?

FYI: Got mine for $449+tax [$499 base + 10% off branded Dell Monitors] today (plus free shipping and free returns.)

The entire Dell S series and xx14 line has obvious overshoot issues, you can see examples in my S2740L video review here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2k9roCiFc4g

Game mode reduces the overshoot issue slightly on the U2713H, not sure about the 24" though, but game mode uses the displays native gamut=wrong gamut and colors for games and the RGB settings are locked.

I had a similar issue with mine before I returned it, but it was one of the more forgivable(for me) issues I had with the monitor. Running brightness at 100% hardly seems like reasonable solution unless you want to burn your eyes out, or if intend to calibrate the monitor to a standard (like 120cd/m).

Unfortunately, it was too late to return the S2740L, so I'm living with it with that setting. The 100% brightness / 40% contrast isn't that bad, but of course isn't accurate in reproducing image fidelity. I thought it would hurt my eyes too, but it doesn't. If I raise the contrast to above 50%, then I can start to feel the strain. I did this originally to see if the PWM kicked in on 100%, and as far as I can with using both my cameras (G2 phone / A57 camera) there's no flicker at 100%.

About the U2413 -- I have free return shipping and something tells me I'm going to use it. I just wish I could find a replacement as good as my Dell 2005FPW [in the $500 range. I spent $980 for the 2405FPW]

Thanks -- game mode on the S2740L is AWEFUL! Everything just looks distorted, like (anti)anti-alias. I can just imagine how aweful "game" mode would be on the U2413.

Did anyone tinker with the Factory Menu to see if there was an option to turn off OverDrive on the U2413?

I've been waiting to see how the 2413 performs before adding a 24" to my system. I'm still leaning towards the Asus PA248Q, mostly due to its much lower price. This will be a secondary monitor, so I'm not quite as demanding as I'd be if I wanted it as my primary screen.

I'm quite shocked at the disappointing QC with Dell's monitors as of late. Makes me hesitant to buy from them.

Hmm. Any other people confirm this overdrive issue? im looking for a good 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor that has great color accuracy and good response time( not crazy ghosting).

If you're looking for good response time for gaming, then just use game mode. You'll get AdobeRGB with low response time.

Outside of game mode, yep, there's ghosting.

Game Mode on the U2413 looks excellent.

It might to some one who has never seen a display with accurate colors.

great color accuracy

This need eliminates this monitor. The game mode is adobe rgb=over saturated and inaccurate colors for games which are sRGB and the game mode has locked color settings too. Get the NEC EA24WMi instead, it's sRGB, has better black levels and costs half as much as the U2413H.

That is not true. Game mode only reduce inputlag, but responsiveness is same in all modes.;)

Problem is not slow response time, but heavily overdriven pixel transitions (and this makes inversive shadows after moving objects - what you can see in my video).

All three new Ultrasharps (U2413, 2713h, 3014) fails in pixel transitions around level 150 to 255. And worst is that there is no option in the OSD menu for disable RTC/overdrive (like on Samsungs).

It might to some one who has never seen a display with accurate colors.

Or to someone who realizes that "game mode" is code for "really crappy image, we're not even trying." The U2413 is a nice change in that respect.

Got mine yesterday:

It's Rev A01, and unlike the inverse ghosting on my S2740L (the text when scrolling on a web page becomes "crinkly", the text and all images have this bluish/cyan tint to them above/below -- e.g., when you scroll down, there is this bluish/cyan tint underneath the text/image -- scroll-up, there is bluish/cyan tint above. My 2405FPW doesn't do this, nor does my $100 ViewSonic at work. Another really annoying thing about this monitor is when watching video, the entire screen shifts brightness/contrast (or color temp, can't really tell) from my setting to a darker setting. My current setup is DisplayPort to GTX 680 / sRGB. To fix this, I opened the Dell Display Manager (I usually just keep it off) and played a video, I got a dialogue for "smart video enhancement" -- I disabled that and the color shifting doesn't happen anymore when playing back videos.

The only positive I have for is: AG coating is perfect, 1000x better than the U2410 and actually better than my 2405FPW -- if they made the same 2405FPW with this coating, I'd buy three, two to add to my monitor array and one as a backup.

Static pictures look fantastic -- it's just the over drive used when scrolling web pages that make this unit unusable. And according to Dell, it's a BIG FAT NO -- they will not do anything about it with a firmware option.

Yeah, that got me too at first, it can also be disabled within the OSD. Seems like an almost pointless feature on a monitor designed for color precision.

Also, I misunderstood one of your earlier posts about running brightness at 100%. I thought you were referring to the U2413.

I discovered that too after probing the OSD -- but I first discovered it with the popup dialogue. Some enhancement!

Oh no, sorry, I meant the 100% brightness with the S2740L. I haven't tried that with the U2413 yet, but even at 50%, this thing is super bright -- so I see what you meant by eyestrain, it maybe brighter than the S2740L. I could possibly do that and it may work like my S2740L, but I really don't want to -- the colors would be all thrown off -- and I'll give this monitor credit for beautiful static images, but that's all.

Has anyone tried softmccs to see if they can turn off or lower the overdrive on the U2413?

Wow, it's been about 6 years since I bought the 2405FPW, and monitors of today are not progressing but regressing! If Samsung could re-release the 2405FPW with the new AG coating or if Dell could give an overdrive option on the U2413, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

FYI: Ghosting is undetectable when brightness set to 100% and Contrast 38% However, the screen is a bit too dark for my taste and use. Anything above 38% while at 100% brightness, the ghosting re-appears. Such a shame, this monitor had such high potential and a decent price (when on sale.) I'm not even going to bother testing games at this point, as one of the fundamental uses for this monitor happens to be scrolling action (netbeans / dreamweaver / vs 2012 / sql server management studio / textpad / etc...) and of course, web browsing, which it fails at -- so it's being returned.

Anyways, good luck to everyone in finding a monitor that works for everyone. If I find one myself, I'll make a post reply here.

Just one last note -- very bad backlight bleeding on the bottom left and right corners.
