New corsair 100% mechanical Keyboard

Looks good, but I personally would have to rule it out since I really don't need that many macro keys anymore. Back in my WoW days, I probably would have taken a pretty hard look at it though.

Damn, wish it came in brushed aluminum like the original as well. I love my K90 and would totally swing on this and give my wife my old K90 if it wasn't black. Don't get me wrong, the black is nice, I'm just tired of everything black and love raw metal.

Much better offering than the K60 and K90 in my opinion. I'm not interested in the volume and media keys it has or the macro keys but I like the new finish and the backlighting. If it weren't for the fact that this uses Cherry MX Red switches I might give on a try despite my dislike of superluous keys. Mainly because it looks like a quality keyboard with good backlighting. To date all the keyboards I know of with backlighting and mechanical keys are of questionable quality at best.

well... i don't have any need or desire for macro ..etc keys but it looks better than the K90

so good on ya making your new efforts better corsair.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. It's not really the keyboard I want but it's a crap ton better than the K90. I like the fact that they took some of their critcisms to heart and did something about them. Now if they'd make a keyboard with only 104 keys using the same casing style with Cherry MX Blue switches and solid backlighting I'll buy it right now.

This looks like a possibility. I can only hope they do a K65 as well since many of us don't really need the macro keys.

Wouldnt buy but that is very nice looking. I thought the older one was decent looking too. Corsair decided to go for a minimal design and I think it looks great.

They should have made it so you could remove the macros (switch them to the other side if one wanted to).

There is a line or seam on the keyboard between the edge of where a normal 104 key keyboard would stop and the macro keys begin. It looks like it might do that anyway.

Looks nice ; glad to see they are listening to feedback. Speaking of which — please make a TKL keyboard Corsair.

It isn't removable. It is only like that on the top, the bottom is one plate. They probably use the same parts for both the non-macro and macro editions and it worked best to build it that way. K90 was the same way.

Agreed. I'm actually preferring TKL these days...

I still want a 10-key most of the time. On my test bench I don't but on my main machine I do far too much numerical data input to go without.

It's a shame logitech discontinued their N305 numpad add-ons. It was a good compromise when you needed to bust out the numpad :D

Agreed. TKL holds absolutely zero appeal for me, its the only way I do number input.

I do think this looks nice and is definitely an improvement over the k90, but I still think that anybody who flat out refused to consider the K90 because it wasn't fully mechanical is being thick. Is this worth $50 more than the K90? I don't think so. I've owned my K90 for a while now and the few mushy domes don't have any impact whatsoever on my daily/gaming usage. I actually almost like having one or two in there just to show how much better the mech keys are than the domes ;) That said, I don't use the macro keys at all for gaming, and those are all domes.

/\ agree. the k90 is a good looking keyboard and pretty quite too from what I have seen. Every review people bitch about it not being fully mechanical but the important keys that we use all the time are and that is the most important thing. I would have considered it.

I also dont like TKL keyboards. they look way too crammed and I love using the numpad to input numbers. its the only way i input numbers. would not bang TKL

I like nice things. Membrane keys are not acceptable. I want all the keys to feel 100% the same and it's worth a little extra to me to do so. That's not me being thick headed but rather knowing what I want and being willing to pay for it.

The other piece of the equation was that the K90 had a lot of other pluses that weren't available on any other keyboard I could find. Obviously its opinion how much you value it, but the backlighting, wrist rest, aluminum construction, audio controls, and macro keys (not big for me) are pretty much impossible to find together on another mech. Personally, I don't see how a dozen domes on random keys that will be pushed about 100 times over the life of the keyboard is a dealbreaker in light of everything else. I think before using the K90 I would have paid for the K95 over it out of principle, but having used the K90 for 9 months I'm glad I saved my money.

Agreed. I bought a K60 to try out reds and used it at work. It's super annoying hitting keys that feel different.

what keyboard did you use before mechanical? or have you been using mechanical kbs forever (aka model m, etc.)?

For me the audio jacks, media keys, wrist wrests, and audio controls are not pros. They are things I'd rather not have on the keyboard. The macro keys I can take or leave. The aluminum construction is cool but by itself isn't that much of a draw for me. I wouldn't buy either due to the use of Cherry MX Red switches as I type more than game even though I do game a lot. For gaming it would suffice but for typing Cherry MX Reds are a deal breaker. The only thing that has me looking at other keyboards besides the Das Keyboards, Filco's, Leupold's, and Quifck Fire Rapid's is backlighting. Razer's solution would be a good one if the implementation weren't so bad. The keys have terrible key caps, weak stabilizers and most importantly the keyboard has terrible software. I've heard mixed things about the Ducky Shine keyboards as well. I'd go with another Deck Keyboard if they had them with Cherry MX Blue switches instead of Browns and Blacks. Though I am not overly fond of the large foot print.

And I want backlighting but I don't need it. I'd rather have a simple Das Keyboard, WASD, Filco or Leupold over a backlit keyboard of questionable quality or jam packed with features I neither desire not wish to pay for.

I have used mechanical keyboards since I got into computers in 1994 or 1995. I've had the IBM Model M and others. I used an NMB Right Touch! keyboard with Alps style linear non-tactile keys for years. I also had one that I occasionally used which had switches similar to the Cherry MX Browns. I kind of went back and fourth between them. I only left those behind when I got rid of the beige tower and went to LCD monitors etc. I finally dropped those mechanical keyboards for a Logitech G15 (rev1) as I wanted a keyboard that looked good with my setup. Once mechanicals started coming back I went with the first one I could find which was the Deck Ice Legend. There weren't too many other choices at the time.

I've been rocking various mechanical keyboards ever since. There was only one period of time when I used the Logitech G15 and it's successor the G-15 rev2. Other than that roughly two year span I've always had mechanicals of one kind or another. On my test bench's and other computers I had membrane based keyboards out of necessity. Some were OK to type on for awhile but they always felt different as they aged. And because I almost always had mechanical keyboards it was hard to use them because I could always feel the difference between those mechanical keyboards and the membrane ones. I do not and never have liked the feel of membrane based keyboards and I never will. I'd pay upwards of $300.00 for the right keyboard if that's what it took to be rid of membrane keyboards.

In fact I'd pay that for a small foot print full 104 key keyboard with plate mounted Cherry MX Blue switches that have quality keycaps, stabilizers, metal base and with good even backlighting. I don't want USB ports, audio jacks, media keys, macro keys, white coloring, or other fluff. So far no keyboard I've seen has the quality I'm looking for even if they are close to the feature set I like. As I said the aforementioned Razer Black Widow Ultimate would be almost perfect sans it's macro keys (which I could get over) but the crap software and poor feel due to quality issues are a deal breaker.

Can this ship with installed dampeners? I guess dampeners are really required for optimal comfort (im used to nice laptopp keyboard)

Not required at all, if you know how NOT to hammer every key with sledgehammer fingers and just touch type.

Dear Corsair:
make a mechanical version of this with a real replacement for that useless d pad

I will love you forever and ever
Sincerely,
Spades

[e] also, a Corsair joystick

I've never bothered with dampeners. I find them unnencessary. If you want quiet then just don't botton the keys out. Easier I think on tactile models like those that use Cherry MX Browns or Blues vs. Reds or Blacks with no tacticle feedback. I've never tried dampeners but I think it would make the keyboard feel more like a membrane based keyboard which is absolutely undesirable to me.

Razor is making (or may have already released) a mechanical game pad called Orbweaver

I like my K90 keyboard, media controls, wrist rest and brushed aluminum finish sealed the deal for me. I dont mind the red switches.

The keyboard i take to work with me is just a basic mechanical keyboard with blue switches, I miss the multi media controls when I;m at work.

Wow finally a mechanical game pad! It says it ships in 1-2 weeks. $130 is kind of expensive for a gamepad. And the joystick is only 8 way. I would definitely get it if it had a real analog joystick. It says 50g of force and I would rather have 45g like red switches but I would probably still get it either way. I'll keep my eye on this one, maybe I'll pick it up if it goes for under $100.

with blue you have an initial click that is loud, too loud and if you live with someone is a problem Its not only botoming out on the blue but both the initial click and then hitting the bottom. I dont think people enjoy using dampers, its more of a required thing depending on the situation.

It also wont feel like a membrane because the initial hit will be the same and if you touch type then technically should feel the same as the dampers only effect the bottoming out. Then again, I havent tried them out either but will when my WASD keyboard arrives (putting in a n order today) to replace my das ultimate.

I like the idea of the volume wheel (that is what the wheel is in the upper right I assume anyway) and media keys, the two things I miss from my old Logitech. But, Cherry Blues are what I love and honestly I want a board without macro keys.

I do not care about macro or media keys apart from the volume scroll (it can come in handy once in a while and I do miss it from time to time)

I'm Blues or nothing these days - I can't get used to anything lighter. Although I do have to use a brown board at work.

I really don't use macros and don't need media keys but I know many that like them so I hope Corsair does well with this one, I think they'll continue to improve over time and give us more variety.

Wow. You guys dont want macro keys? You know they can be programmed to just about anything? like opening notepad, cod, a browser or for pasting in text macros for for instance games like lol where u have to be quick to say what positions you prefer to play.

When i used to take my K90 to work i used the macro keys a lot to run common commands or one liners that i wound up typing a lot. Since you can store the macros in the memory on the keyboard it didnt matter where i used the computer or what OS it had, my macros where always there.

since i dont take it to work anymore, i just use AutoKey

I know. But when you've not had them as an option for 20 years it's difficult to change how you do things. I don't use media keys or audio jacks on keyboards either.

This. When you've just gotten used to going without, adding it seems like almost an annoyance. I don't need them and I don't want them there. Just adds to the clutter on my already small desk.
