Anybody Returning their iPhone 5?

Today I have decided to return my iPhone 5. I was delighted on launch and it is a very satisfactory phone but I can't help but feel as though it is missing something. I think my main issues are that I am envious of the larger screen sizes on other devices and also the iOS software of which I am starting to get too familiar with.

Not to mention the fact the edges scratch. I feel one of the major draws to the iPhone is it's aesthetic appeal yet I have to put a case on it for protection.

I am thinking about trying a Windows phone and if I don't like that I will probably re-purchase the iPhone 5.

Anybody else coming to similar crossroads?

Nah, it has the best apps, best games, and the fastest hardware. I'm a happy camper

Let me guess you just saw that Samsung commercial?

And you're just now realizing that the new iphone doesn't have all the features of a superior product.

Don't get a windows phone, get the GS3.

I just switched from iPhone to a GS3 and I am loving it. The extra screen space is great.

Also, I own a GS3, and no it is not the greatest since sliced bread. The extra screen space is nice, but the keyboard? INFERIOR to iOS. Swiftkey makes it just bearable to type on this machine.

Pros of GS3:

Screen size to watch videos
Browsing internet
Display is nice (not sRGB, but still).
Camera (love the shutter speed)
Good for everyday normal use, except for battery life.

Cons:

No tap to scroll to the top of the page (Android problem)
Keyboard blows.
Gaming capability is sorely lacking
Speakers are junk

Don't get me wrong guys, I do appreciate the fact the iPhone is a fantastic device but it isn't as amazing as it was upon first release and now there are truly viable options available that in some cases beat the iPhone. I would return to iPhone if I don't agree with Windows Phone 8.

My problem is definitely screen real estate, although the 4.8" and 5.5" of the SIII and Note II is too big for me. Also I have never liked Android, as after using iOS I don't like the almost 'industrial' look of it. I think it looks the most dated of the lot, even if it has amazing features.

This is why I was drawn to WP8. It looks fresh, new, exciting like iOS did before it. Most of my productivity work happens on a Windows based PC and XBOX Live as well, so having a device more related to them is handy.

The new HTC/Nokia are the way I would go. They look colourful which I think is a welcome change. 4.3-4.5" screens is large but not overbearing. I will need to wait for more information on them technically but who knows, it might lead to a love affair. And for anybody who says Windows has no apps, it has none yet. At least for gaming, I found plenty I use on iPhone on the Windows marketplace with more to come (hopefully).

i was planning on getting iphone actually myself (first time, never had one before) but after seeing few problems people described, i'm still juggling between iphone and s3 my sister has s2 and i'm kind of liking it, seeing iphone 4 and s2 i see few difference between looks. although s3 has superior hardware doesn't mean it's best, i would have to say iOS actually surpasses all if not most mobile os out there. might wait another month or so before few updates on iphones and see how it'll perform.

I upgraded from a BB curve and I'm loving my iPhone 5. So much faster, waaaaaaaay better apps, all around "pleasurable" phone to use compared to a blackberry.

agreed. I was looking at an S3 and Razor max but ultimately decided to go with the iPhone5 and couldn't be happier. It's a great phone. Just wish a jailbreak existed to get all my tweaks back.

Is it just me then who thinks the screen on the iPhone 5 is simply too small still? 4.3 or up feels just right, yet Apple claims anything over 4" is clunky and uncomfortable which is a shame because more screen real estate = better apps and more information on the screen at one time. Bigger screens will always improve the user experience unless it is 4.8" or above when it gets silly (hello Samsung).

If you feel you need a bigger screen, just get the GS3. Plenty of users like bigger screens. If that is important to you, pick the phone that give you that. It is not the iPhone 5. You like what you like and you have choices (a good thing).

I wish people didn't have to foster the notion that one thing is always better than another. That's just nonsense. I love my iPad 3, but I also love my Google Nexus 7. There are times when the iPad 3 is the right device for the job but there are other situations there the GN7 is. There are still other times when my iPhone 4S is better than either of them. It's about the right tool for the job at hand. Nothing is totally best is all situations. Devices are cheap (even the expensive ones) enough that many can afford more than one, too.

Although a lot of people hold simplicity and organisation as highly in regard as price. Personally, I don't think it would appeal to me to have 2-3 devices of the same type for singular purposes. This is why devices are compared so often, people regularly (except tech addicts) want to only use the same device and become attached to it.

I agree I need to choose the larger phone, although I would go back to the iPhone 5 if none satisfy me in regards to OS. 4.8" was hideous to hold for me, but 4.3-4.5" should be perfect.

Excited to try it.

To be honest, all of that but maybe the last is subjective. I never really found anything useful in the App Store either.

If you got it first and always preferred iOS, then I am not sure why you would switch though. I bought a few apps on Android and there is no way I am going to iOS since I would lose them(and other reasons).

I wish I could.

Work got me the iP5, and I moved from a Droid 2. Despite the D2 being 3 years older, with gingerbread and motoblur, it was in many ways a better experience. Sure, it wasn't as fast (software-wise and internet sped, 3G-LTE), but in terms of feature set and convenience and user experience it was far better for the work I need from a smartphone.

Going from Apple to Android. Google Play pales in comparison, also the demographic is completely different. I mean when Solitaire is the top game some weeks... :p. That is really the one thing I miss from Apple, that and iMessage. Quality iOS exclusives (they get it first, then ported to Android), and iMessage... that thing was a god send among friends.

There are other apps, such as WhatsApp. I use it to "text" my friends in Germany. If you look for it, you will usually find it. Seriously though, aside from that, what apps are you talking about? I am curious

There are plenty of good apps for android. And there are a lot more functional apps (as in apps that help you do work and not just bs fart apps) The majority of major best selling apps are on android as well anyway. And I could care less about first person shooters as they suck on touchscreens. The controls are attrocious. They have them if you want them and you can actually hook up a controller on android so thats better than iOS in that respect.

Maybe I'm just the one that likes instant gratification as I am getting older. But I do like the fact that most popular apps do come out on iOS first and is enjoyed first.

Infinity Blade comes to mind as a great app for mobile platforms, and infinity blade dungeons (whenever it comes out) is also amazing. As I am semi-new to the Android front, how quick are they to release games like Modern Combat etc on Android?

I love the kairosoft games, and they run well on Android. I just hope there will be some graphical prowess coming to Android sometime, I love them GFX! but I still enjoy my GSIII. I watch a ton of videos and the extra screen space is nice.

As for widgets..I can't say if I like or dislike. It's good to have, but it's not something that is really important to me. Also.. do you GSIII owners notice that swiftkey lags if you are trying to type really quick? It bothers the hell outta me. Any other recommendations for keyboards? I really do like how Apple did their keyboard.

Ahh, no I don't really play games on my phone other than maybe some temple run every now and then. iOS will probably win on the game front for a while.

As for the keyboard, the stock GS3 one is complete rubbish, no idea how that got into the final product. I used the GO keyboard(free) and it was pretty good, but it can't touch this AOSP keyboard(It's included with the jelly bean AOKP ROM). Barely any mess ups because the keys are spaced nicely and it doesn't annoy you with predictions like the stock one does.

I find it interesting this conversation is still sticking to Android and iOS. Then again we have little information on WP8 at the moment. Looking forward to seeing it in action!

I'll be willing to give WP a try....in maybe several years once they have shown themselves to be a real player. I see little reason, at the moment, to spend my funds on the distant third place contender. I do recognize that MS has the ability to come from behind, though, so I will be watching with interest.

Now, it story is quite different in the tablet space....where I can run productivity apps, on Win8.

My S3 has been lasting just as long as my iPhone4 with the same usage. I made the change purely because I was bored with iOS and the iPhone. The 5 didn't offer enough of a change over the 4/4S for me.

There are plenty of productivity applications on Android and iOS as well. The limitation isn't the operating system but the form factor. A tablet just doesn't work very well as a content creation and productivity device, even with a physical keyboard. It'll get the job done in a bind, and can even work quite well for some lightweight work, but I certainly wouldn't get one for that sole purpose.

one thing i do hate about iphone is the screen size, to me it's kinda odd, apple should have increase it's width as well and not just height. would have looked better, just my opinion

It would have looked better, I do agree. It does look a little awkward being so tall and narrow.

However, you do get used to it fairly quick.

If I wanted a larger screen I would have went with some Android version. However, I myself, prefer the smaller screen of the iPhones. TBH, I wish it was still the same size as the 4s.

We've been getting terrible battery life on our iphone 5. Probably the worst of all the series. Anyone else?

mine has been amazing.

did you turn off the location based ads and stuff? My battery life was 'okay' but since turning off all that crap it's been really good (espeically coming from an iphone 4)

its been 4 hours since my last charge and its at 72%.

my work has no wifi and i have no bluetooth.

pretty sure location services is on..

thats while playing spotify offline mode for the majority of that time.

I'd say thats pretty damn good. not to mention I am texting and using it to browse the internet while I poop

I own a GS3 and the battery life is meh. Not the greatest at all.

It's always lasted me through the entire day. I have 4g with weather/news updates every 25 minutes or something, facebook every hour, email every 15 minutes I think. I also play temple run/listen to music for at least 40 minutes during school and then when I get home and work out I use it for music as well. GPS is on as well, although I turned it off now because it just bothered me(FB and other stuff). I have to recharge it every night, but it easily gets me through the day.

I'm currently at 77% been unplugged about 9 hours - Same usage as I did with my iPhone4. It's easily as good if not better.

I'd love your iP4, because my battery barely makes it a day with very low usage on my VZW iP4.

This shitty GS3 battery life is news to me. And I've owned one for a couple weeks now.

New GS3 owner and it easily lasts a day. If I don't use the phone much it can last almost 2 days. You'll find similar great battery life on most phones with the S4.

I sold my iPhone 5 and am going back to the 4S. I love my iPhone over other devices, but the 5 was not worth it.

Nope. Love mine.

edit: previously had a GS3 for ~3 days. What a plastic-y piece of junk. There is just no comparison to how these phones feel in your hand.
