torn between two options

I game i do 3d modeling,graphic design etc

one 40 " monitor in landscape mode and a 2 26" on each side in portrait mode. this gives me a nice main screen to do graphic design and have a live preview of my webpages up while having the other four for code or whatever.

or run 5 30" screens in portrait mode my only issue with this that im thinking doing graphic design etc may be a pain working in landscape especially modeling. seen a few setups like this but just showing off the background. none at work.

I would take the 5x30 setup anyday (if I could afford it). Mounting will be an issue since I don't think any 30" screen can pivot to portrait mode. And if you plan to game, then tri-fire is a must. And that really should have water cooling. Would be a badass setup, but I'm thinking you would be in the neighborhood of $7,000 to do it right.

The other option would be less than half of that.

Cost really isnt a issue with my proffesion. But i'm not throwing money away either so requardless it has to be right.

One thing about the 40" screen and the 4 26's is finding a quality 40" that wont be grainy during game play and one that can keep up.

a 40' screen is going to have crap DPI for any decent level of graphics work, 2d or 3d. and sitting to close your going to see everything pixely likely.

As the big man said above... the 40" screen will not deliver. In fact, it will have the fidelity grandma might find with a large magnifying glass reading the newspaper. Hardly a professional setup.

If you have the bankroll then please build the 5x30 and post lots of pictures :D

5x30 is looking to be the best option. It would not be a huge deal to make it where I can landscape the center monitor. I forsee doing graphic and 3d modeling a pita on a portrait monitor.

And wth Samsung quit making 30" do not see them on there site.

Any monitor recommendations? I will be debezeling. Is there any 40" with a worthwhile resolution?

I've stuck with Dell monitors for the last 12 years nor attempted to debezel any monitor before, so I can't offer you any help there. I can say that, I've seen a 30" U3011 Dell monitor that was debezled, and the difference was so little that it really didnt strike me as being worth the effort and risk.

I've never seen a 40" bigger than 1080p...

Stick with professional grade IPS monitors. Check out the Dell u3011 or hp zr30w. There are plenty of threads discussing the pros and cons of each.

Why do you need the additional screen real estate for the side monitors? The 4 additional 30s would look great but why not just use an extended PLP setup with a 30" in landscape in the center with two 20" in portrait flanking either side? If you use the Dell U3011 and four 2007FPs this will give you a near uniform look across all monitors. Would cost about 75% less than a 5x30 setup as well.
