Just a something real quick for those SG08 users out there using closed water cooling loops (Corsair, Antec Kuhlers, etc).

If you install the water cooler to the TOP of the case, as in the actual outside cover (bolt through the top vent holes) it will reduce CPU temps, and subsequently reduce GPU temps by about 15C!

Sorry don't have actual numbers but before doing this (I had my H70 with dual fans push/pull attached to the 180mm fan holder/filter) my 2500k @ 4.5ghz was running about 80C when running Linpack...after bolting the H70 to the top of the case my temps dropped to about 65C 100% load. Amazing.

Not only that but my GPU temps have been fantastic dropping from about 85C @ 975mhz gaming maxed settings Battlefield 3 64-player map to around 70-75C.

Just a little note to those out there...its a bit of a pain to do and you gotta be careful but its worked beautifully so far.

OH! PLUS! If you bolt it to the far side of the vent holes it also provides more video card clearance. I noticed with my GTX 580 the radiator would touch the video card...not anymore! Plus, it provides more clearance between the motherboard and the radiator and fans.

Overall very happy with the results all the way around...for a quick "lets see what I can do to possibly make things cooler" idea its awesome!

Let me know if it helps you!

Pics could be helpful, cause I'm not sure that I understood. Do you mean, putting the rad outside of the case ??

@JoeUser:

I'm sorry, but are you saying that you removed the AP fan and used a push/pull setup on the H70? Why? Also, did you make any modifications to the default positive pressure cooling scheme that Silverstone uses? All you have to do is hang the radiator from the bottom of the AP fan grille and attach another "pull" fan to the radiator. Also, the GPU duct can cut down the case temps somewhat.

I thought that was the normal way of doing it.

i.e attaching it to the top.

When using the internal fan mount it leaves space in between the top of the case and the mount (talking about the plastic piece that holds the 180mm fan) thus it doesn't properly exhaust the hot air, almost gets recirculated.

Plus, with my H70 having it on the mount created fitting issues with me video card...actually not quite clear how people have mounted their WC loops without that being an issue.

I can say, I'm using my SG08 as an open stand - keeping that top/side cover off all the time...

Is this how people have been doing it?

I don't have this case. I just assumed if you were going to use a closed loop cooler that you would bolt it to the top vent, just seems like common sense. I don't know if most people do it or not.

I thought about that...but having it open...

1. Doesn't look nice
2. Is bad for cooling as the hot air sits in the cases general area and will make things hotter

1. Mine looks great - modded cables, great cable management and all matched hardware in blue...
2. General area?

Yeah...when you don't have the hot air being exhausted AWAY from the case and keep it from easily recirculating (as it is with open cases like yours) temps will be higher...that's why with the cover on, the air is being forced out in a particular direction and isn't allowed to immediately be sucked back in due to the top cover.

I don't know how else to better explain it.

Just a something real quick *snip*

Good heads-up, and not only applicable to the Sugo-series cases, the same rule will apply to almost all watercooled setups out there.

Quite the proverbial standard, but, always nice to point out to those guys new to this hobby.
