So this weekend, if anyone noticed, microcenter ran a sale on 2600k's for 199. I had a buddy scoop me one up from the dallas store. Now i'm in the middle of procuring the rest of my parts. Since this is my desktop which also does some gaming and light programming, i'm looking to get a silverstone ft02 as well, wife doesn't want it running naked. Plus the cat would probly kill it if it wasn't in a case.

Now i just need to pick out a z77 board, likely asus max v gene, order a new cpu block, and some misc WC gear and it will be build time!

It's just like christmas!

For the horde!

no no leave it naked and let the cat put its nose in the fan.. cat will never go within 100 ft of a computer again after that. :D

then you can put the system in a case. :p

I like the way this man thinks :D

I was hoping that people here would score a few of those procs. I have to say I was tempted myself.

Haha the issue is the cat just bats at them with his paws. So he doesn't have any issues playing in the fans.

Yeah, i was holding out for ivy, but with all the rumors of crappy overclocking, heat issues and what not, i thought i might as well buy the 2600k with HT for the same price or cheaper than what the nonHT 3570 will come out at. I still reserve the right to sell the 2600k and get ivy later tho if the reviews are showing something different than the rumors are hinting at. But at this rate, i'd probly have to see avg 400mhz or more overclocking boost with ivy before i'd swap em out since i got the 2600k so cheap.

Not if you use delta fans :D

Hahahaha well that could be fun but i also like being able to work in here all day without the earplugs :) and I doubt the wife would appreciate a cat with 3 paws.

If something bad does happen be sure to rename the cat Tripawed. :p

LOL, i must have read that 5 times before I figured out what u did. Good one.

So after seeing the extensive overview of the asus boards over at pcper I've chosen the gene. If any of you guys are interested in Z77, i'd suggest you go watch it, answered some questions I had. But now amazon is out of stock on the FT02, those jerks! What a terrible time to run out of stock! Also supposedly monsoon is coming out with a new bay res/pump combo that I think will really benefit the ft02 so i'm torn between setting up the WC and then changing it later or not. We'll have to see what I can setup once the case and stuff gets here. If i'm not happy with the tube routing I might have to run stock air cooling for a while, something that hasn't happened here in over 5 years! Awesome thing is that this pump and block has cooled my folding rig for nearly 6 years, got my monies worth :)

Parts to order:
2600k, en route
4x4gig corsair 1600, already here
asus max v gene
silverstone ft02
swiftech apogee HD
misc WC pieces

carry over:
PSU, video card, hard drives, fans, pump, gpu block

edit: Parts ordered! i'll toss some pics up next week during the teardown and new build for those addicted to pr0n.

Gah, tigerdirect screwed me and didn't tell me their FT02 was OOS cause a 3rd party was shipping it. Burned 3 business days, luckily amazon got some stock today and saved 10 bucks in the process. So i've got everything but the case and the cpu :( I'll take a log of pics during teardown and then build back up, hopefully this weekend if the case ships quickly.

So I've gotten this thing up and running finally. Teardown and draining of the WC in the old case took a couple hours, then building the new parts in the new case. I decided not to put the WC in the new case yet due to lack of a pump/bay res combo that will really help consolidate stuff in the case, along with lack of dremel :( So it's stock for now, but the cpu is already way quicker than the old core 2 quad xeon.

Pics of the journey, starting with the goods.

Mobo, cpu, ram assembled, before deciding if the cooler would be the Apogee HD, or the stock cooler.

The old girl mostly naked. She's treated me well, but I think the NB was losing it, I couldn't fold at max OC anymore, even 3.2 would crash sometimes. The tubing from the pump to the rad was original, so nearly 4 years old, LOL.

First run to see how things are going to fit, Shortly there after I fired her up and noticed I forgot to plug in the gpu fan, oops. Had to disassemble then reassemble the 5870.

Cabling on this case concerned me with clearance but after tying it all down to the back of the case, it actually worked out pretty well and the side panel went on without a fuss.

Finished product, first case i've ever had with some kind of cable management, and therefore is the best I've probly ever done running cables. If only the stupid case leads were about 2 inches longer I could have ran them up from the bottom instead of where it currently sits.

Hmm, apparently imgur doesn't support linking like i expected here. Here's the link to the first image and you can browse from there. Or maybe I suck and don't know how to do it right lol.

you have to link the thumbnails.. pain in the ass.

Ahh yeah, got it figured out. Large thumbnail size isn't too bad tho i guess. I'd prefer larger but not full size.

Also realized that the galaxy S takes ok pics but not great at all, and photographing black on black doesn't turn out that well.
