27" IPS 2560x1440 monitor~90hz <$400 FS

This only applys to dead pixels and not stuck, a stuck pixel will still pass inspection.

Correction: this will only apply to stuck pixels, and not dead pixels. You (should) not get any bright pixels on a black background, but you may get black pixels on a bright background.

And even then you may get a monitor with those defects, and your only recourse is to return the monitor ($100?) or live with them and maybe get a refund on your stuck pixel policy.

No, it doesn't. DVI only.

There's an image below the listing showing multiple inputs.

[EDIT] Opps, it's a table below the images, entitled SPEC and listing the inputs and outputs. It lists the following: D-Sub, Audio in, HDMI Component, Optical out, Audio out.

Not arguing that it may be Dual Link DVI, just saying that it says otherwise in at least one place in the listing.

Shimian looks the best in my opinion. Has a slight apple look to it thanks to the silver edge. Has a sturdy enough stand as well. Mine has no lean and does not wobble when typing. Have not gamed on it yet so no opinion on that.

Yeah, I live in the oakland area too, but it would of made no difference as it got from Oakland to Soquel overnight.

Is backlight bleed/blooming normal on these monitors.
My friend just recieved his (shimian), although it appears to have no dead pixels, on the top of the monitor there are three areas that have sever bleed/blooming that extends in a half circle from the top out to over an inch.
It's the same effect as is you press down on the monitor and it starts to get lighter.

Is this a mechanical issue, where the screen is to screwed down to tight in those areas?

Other than that.. the monitor is impressive.. it puts my u2410 to shame.

Thanks

1) Common? Sorta, the lower right corner is the most common area, but sometimes it's the left corner or elsewhere. It's supposedly the nature of the beast with LG S-IPS and even Panasonic's IPS-alpha to a certain extent. Postioning the monitor height can help, you'd want your eyes level with the bottom of the panel. I don't think it's blooming with these monitors though (unlike certain TV's).

2) Sometimes it is, which means manipulating the panel the right way *can* reduce it. You'd have to be careful when taking it apart though because the internal cables slip out of their sockets a little too easily. You wouldn't necessarily have to take it apart, sometimes flipping the monitor around in a particular direction would let gravity do the trick, that's if you can figure out the right direction because otherwise you can make it worse. I've seen techniques posted online, but it would take some serious google fu to dig them up.

Mine arrived in excellent condition. No dead or stuck pixels. Turnaround time was unreal. Domestic shipments always seem to take longer than this did.

Will be nice to have the extra screen real estate!

In the case you're describing, it's most likely a mechanical issue. The bezel is probably putting too much pressure on the screen in the spots where it's "blooming".

My shimian had one dead green pixel in the bottom right, thats it. The blooming isnt bad at all IMO. I the only time Ive ever noticed it is when I tested for it. It occurs due to poor mechanical design since the rows of LEDs are placed along the top and bottom of the bezel.

It's probably a mechanical thing, but it's not something that you need to test for, the second you have a semi dark image, it's quite apparent what's going on.

Some google fu for fixing it... *laughs* i guess i'm going to have spend some time searching, let me know if you guys find anything.

I just got mine, its a good monitor, but yea, lots of blooming on bottom left and right corners. There is some on the top too, its only noticeable on dark images, Reducing the brightness helps a little. If anyone finds a fix or knows of something to make it better, that would be cool

For these monitors it would be pretty normal for impefections. These are most likely A- panels so they are not the "top of line" panels.

Crossover 27" LED-P
The base I received was very sturdy and the pivot worked great. I decided to put it on an triple display mount with my 2 other ASUS 24" displays, seems to fit just fine. The back of the monitor is a vented white aluminium with plenty of ventilation. The front is all black with a small sliver of white around the bottom bezel. The power light is in the corner which is very dim and covered in a matte plastic, definitely a plus. The controls are 3 simple plastic buttons behind the bezel, backlight up, down and power.

The bezels are exactly 1" on the left and right sides and slightly under 1" on the top and slightly over that on the bottom.

The display is the usual gloss you find on most glossy LED displays like Samsung TVs/Monitors or laptops. The blacks aren't as deep as I would like but I can't complain. The brightness is adjustable but not by much, you only have up and down and there's no OSD to tell where you're at so you have to judge by eye. I seemed to have hit the lotto and got one with 0 dead/stuck pixels. Definitely has more ghosting than my ASUS displays but the response time is fine. Runs at standard 60hz (there is no OC on this one) Colors are fantastic with only a slight blue hue that I adjusted with W7 calibration.

The power plug is a little iffy and falls out very easily. I did have an issue when I mounted it on my stand, the screws that came with my stand were too long and ended up causing a short when plugging in to the electrical which scared me for a sec but using the screws that came with the stand worked fine. The power brick I received was made for standard US displays and was included in the ebay listing from dcsamsungmall. The brick gets pretty hot to the touch, not enough to burn but wouldn't like it to be any hotter. The display itself also emits more heat than my LCDs but nothing to worry about.

All in all for the price I paid you really can't beat this display. Well worth the $410 I paid for the Crossover as it is a very sturdy monitor and the included mount is fantastic.

What monitor arm are you using?

It's a risk either way you go. None of these monitors are perfect and truthfully most big name companies in the US don't have a 0 pixel policy neither. These are LG panels that haven't been designated for major brand distribution and instead get sold off to smaller generic brand displays so they are never perfect. For lag I heard the 3View PCBank is really good but so is the Crossover. Crossover uses LED and PCBank uses CCFL.

Just order 2/3, get a discount, pick the one you want, and sell the other for $100 less. I can see people FSFT who might be interested. 27" for $230 and wonky pixels is nothing to sneeze at.

They weren't giving discounts on these, at least when I ordered, unless you ordered 100 or more or something insane like that.

Crossover is the best if you need a stand that does more than tilt. I did not so I got the cheaper Shimian for $330 shipped from ta_planet.

Thoughts?

I really don't want one with tempered glass. I hear of dust being stuck behind the glass.

330 is a sweet price! The Catleap I was looking at was 400 since it was a perfect pixel, but no dead pixels guaranteed and no glass.

If I get the 330 one Ill be glad i did if nothing is majorly wrong with it, but i'll kick myself if it has a dead pixel...

Got my Davi version, but the box says "LED Monitor". we were all thinking it was CCFL. It DOES have a matte finish though. I imagine its the same as the dell U27 AG coating. Posting in the thread in the displays forum with pics. Oh yeah, no dead pixels, backlight bleed is minimal, and no color differences. Perfect!
