Okay, Treckies, Treckers, freaks and geeks, time to get your Star Trek back on. It’s official: The long awaited sequel to the re-start of the Star Trek franchise has begun filming. The cast is set, the script is written and the filming began last Thursday. The sci-fi adventure film will premiere on May 17th, 2013. You may now start your countdown clocks. :D

"We are, at long last, ready to boldly go once again. I hope to God we don't screw it up."

For the "Hope to God they don't screw everything up" bit... that was the FIRST respin.

I am a huge Star Trek fan, and will not be seeing any future efforts to reimage the first series like this.

o_O

I am a huge Star Trek fan and the latest movie was the best Star Trek movie to date. Made Star Trek the "cool" series while Star Wars has become the "dork" series. Never thought I would live to see that day.

I'm with RGMBill. The new movie is nothing but Hollywood. There's so little in the film that actually makes you think. It's just flashy special effects and surface elements. I'll be passing on it as well.

"Treckies"? "Treckers"? Sounds like you may not be one yourself, MajorDomo...before someone starts a flamewar: It's Trekkies and Trekkers.

Outside of that...I view this with minimal interest even as a huge Trekkie myself...it sounds like they're remaking Wrath of Khan. It's an insult to the memory of Ricardo Montalban!

KHAAAN!

Oh no, your not one of those that counts the cattle on Kirks farm perchance? :D

Personally, my brother and I enjoyed the movie

Woot, really enjoyed the last one, looking forward to the next. Was a lot better then the last two next generation movies.

My friend and I are looking forward to this. We both saw it in the theatres about four times. Lol.

It was a really good reboot of the series, and one of the better reboots so far like with Nolan's Batman trilogy. Less corny than the original Star Trek, more realistic feeling than the rest of the series, and a very good story.

I have to find a better Starfleet uniform for next year's premiere. I kind of outgrown the one I have. Hahaha. (I'm not a full on Trekkie since I don't do any of the prosthetics, make-up or visiting the conventions.)

As I understand it, they arent remaking Wrath of Khan, but rather the events that led to Wrath of Khan.

And I welcome it!

I rather enjoyed the reboot and am looking forward to the next installment. Yeah, it was silly (especially the villain), but not as bad as most of the ST films have been (imho).

[Speaking as a big fan of ST:TOS, somewhat of a fan of TNG, and less so for each successive iteration, down to "Enterprise" which I find unwatchable.]

I wouldn't mind seeing a movie that's set 100 years after TNG - the amount of possibilities there are endless

If you dress up in a Starfleet uniform that you "outgrew", you're a Trekkie. Just make a Starfleet Moo Moo and be done with it, once and for all. :D

Although it had it's moments from time to time Trek was rarely overly intelligent in the first place. It had a fair amount of depth and some episodes and movies have some damn good writing, but you were rarely challenged to think. Sherlock Holmes it was not.

For fans of Star Trek (like myself), you should visit redlettermedia.com and look at his reviews. He probably gives the best "fan" perspective when it comes to looking at all the Star Trek TNG movies (which I mostly didn't like) and the new one.

The first of the AU Star Treck movies was pretty good. I would not mind seeing a sequel. It was NOT "Wrath Khan" good, but it was pretty good movie.

I don't mind AU at all. I have lived with AU stories for decades, with comics, manga, and anime already anyway.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Kahn, I'll see it. I hope they turn down the flashing light shit.

As another poster said, the first reboot was extremely well-done - it definitely brought Star Trek into the "cool zone" while Star Wars has been waning into the "dork/kid" zone as of late. I still love the Star Wars IP more (original trilogy), mainly because of all the liberalized political undertones/subliminal messages in all of the Star Trek series to date, but these new reboot movies completely rid themselves of that.

My dad introduced me to Star Trek some 30 years ago and I have seen every episode of TOS, TNG, DS9, ENT, and maybe half of VOY. I love the new direction that JJ went with Trek and appreciate it for opening the door for non-trekkers to be involved with the franchise. My wife refused to watch Trek until she watched JJ's version three times with me. She even watched TWOK, TSFS, TVH which she would never have watched if it weren't for Star Trek 2009.

I am glad that JJ and company took their time with the script and not pumped out movies every other year like Berman did with the TNG movie series. I trust JJ with is handling of the series like he did for Lost and Fringe and I also expect great things for Alcatraz.

They kinda fucked the continuity, but ST 2009 was a good movie. It's also a good demo disc for a nice home theater system.

I watched most of the orginal series on TV as a kid with my parents. I wasnt really a fan, but as a kid it held my attention somewhat (space ships and aliens, not much else was needed). TNG started while I was in middle school and I was hooked almost from the start. I also loved DS9, and most of Voyager. But this last reboot movie gets a "meh" rating from me.
I wasnt really drawn into it by the cast. I relize I didnt watch them on TV for years, and become attached to them like the TNG cast, but I cant help that. I wont be going to see it in the theater, but i'm 100% sure i'll see it once its released to disc.

And all the coments about it now being "cool' is funny. Its like your trying to deny your true nature. Just accept it. Once you embrace your inner dork, you'll relize that no StarTrek movie has ever been "cool".

Why am i getting flashback's of William Shatner in his SNL "Get a Life" skit? :)
(Still extremely funny after all these years imho)
Still, The wrath of Kahn i consider one of the best Star Trek movies they ever made. Bought back the essence of the original series i think. Did like the reboot tho....
Star Trek 5 isn't even worth the film it was filmed on...lol

Eagerly awaiting a 2nd movie. The first was great and one of the best Star Trek movies made imo.

Those that hate it, keep counting cattle on the ranch please. And stay there away from us too.

They already screwed it up the first time around. I honestly can't understand what people see in JJ Abrams,I think he's one of the most overrated directors around. If he wanted to put his own spin on Trek,he could have shown some real creativity by coming up with a new crew on a new Enterprise in the TNG timeline, not insulting Gene Roddenderry's creation by twisting events to suit his whims.

Star Trek has had major reworks many times over the years in comics, books, movies, shows and so on.
