Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

No crashes after 4 consecutive rounds here. Game runs pretty well performance wise. I'm getting fps in the 50s when I'm out wondering lone ranger style and drops to the low 30's during a fire fight. Could certainly use more FPS, but it'll do until I get my hands on Ivy.

There is certainly some lag and rubber-banding right now, which isn't exactly unexpected. Hit detection is surprisingly good. The land vehicles have a good feel to them but I have not yet had a chance to fly any aircraft.

Destruction is right where it should be I think. Toned down enough that you can't level the entire map, but there is enough there that you can't always rely on a wall to protect you from a tank shell.

I like the scoring system. Plenty of ways to get a half way decent score and help your team win even if your K/D is shit.

Most importantly, the game is a BLAST! Ran into one match where there was an entire squad spawn camping, but the spawns are varied enough especially on the large conquest maps for it to not really be much of a problem.

Overall I'm very impressed with it. Many, if not most games this hyped up tend to deflate your excitement once they release, I don't feel this is the case with BF3.
 
WOW this game is amazing. the graphics, the animation, the audio, the attention to the tiny details, my guy finally drives with his hands!!!!!!

Only problem is every server I tried was lagging so bad I though I got the special Michael J Fox edition by mistake. I'll try again tomorrow and hopefully it'll work better.

My jaw dropped the first time I joined in the middle of a battle with jets flying overhead, tanks rolling up behind me, my team providing suppressing fire and half the scenery crumbling to the ground around me. This lives up to my expectations and then some.
 
Oh and yes, ditch the CAP3, stay on 11.10v3 or 11.9 WHQL, without CAP's! this solved microstuttering/stuttering for many!!!!!!
 
The only real bad part is everyone and their dog is support right now. I do lub my M249 though.

I'll play ENG until I unlock everything. It's nice with all the support though, love the ammo --- nothing like suppressing fire from an RPG.
 
I'm in awe, this took FPS to another level and launches to another level, completely bug free and running maxed out on a single 560ti 2GB at 35-40 average fps. Only MSAA and PP AA are cranked down to 2x. The fighter sequence blew my socks off, the cutscenes and story are solid, very solid. Even the EA/DICE intro was jaw dropping, attention to detail like dust from the footsteps in the soldiers in front of you, shrapnel, environmental destruction, your hand and gun reaching out in front of you in prone crawl, it's unreal.
 
Searched and couldn't find anything about this and I'm hoping I'm not the only one confused. In the emails I got after preordering it gives instructions on how to redeem my physical warfare pack code, yet I can't find the damned thing anywhere. There's a code for my limited edition BF3 but all of the physical warfare pack emails, like the one informing me about the early release, do not come with any code. I logged on a server quickly to see if any unlocks were available and I couldn't find anything. I also don't see any back to karkand maps in the server browser. Are they out there yet?

Would like to play on Karkand tomorrow so let me know if I'm missing something.
 
It's still crashing after every round. It's getting annoying as I don't think my stats are being logged... despite what I said about not caring about ranks and unlocks, I would like some better guns etc.

The game is pretty incredible but yeah I can't get absorbed yet because I'm spending as much time restarting the game as playing it.

I think this is going to be released at a later date.

From the BF3 site "If you pre-order Battlefield 3, you will be able to play Back to Karkand at no extra charge as soon as it is released, but it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc."
 
You know what?

It's fucking great. Immersive, amazing graphics, sound, squad based teamwork, etc. IT's everything I want (except they need to allow you to more easily select a squad in game). Not a hint of microstuttering or lag on the system in sig. Butter smooth at all times.

for you and anyone crashing at the end of rounds or every 15+ min try this....(it was elsewhere in this forum) out of game. start button: type firewall> go to windows firewall> inbound rules> bf3> in the advance tab, enable/allow edge traversal (option 2 in dropdown menu).

iono what that is or does but it was explained in a post elsewhere on here and it eliminates the crashing. apparently this was a firewall bug/issue that was the same deal in another game.

im repeating this because it worked for many in beta and the problem seems to be the same thing. try it and see if it works CTD people

Anyone else having this problem? Im using the latest nvidia drivers (not sure if that was a mistake).
 
Best maps are Kharg Island and Operation Firestorm. Grand Bazaar is the best infantry focused map. Noshahr Canals and Tehran Highway are decent. The rest I don't care to play at all.
 
I'm going to have to move to a 580. My 295 just can't perform the way I want anymore. :(

Anyone know what sort of frames I can expect at 1080P all high no AA with a single 580?
 
ORLY. I'm extremely pleased then, I'd prefer to be 80+ so I don't mind turning the settings down a bit, my card just can't handle it even on medium and the SLI scaling is mediocre (~70% loading).

Yes, right click on the game in Origin and select "repair install" that should do it.

seriously a few of these maps it's obvious that they will never ever get played. Dice doesn't make bad games, but their level design team could use some work.
 
I tried the allow edge traversal fix. It's a total crashfest still. Also it's not just crashing between levels... it crashes when I start the game about half the time. 3.5 hours past midnight and I've been able to play for about 90 minutes, maybe less of actual playtime. Bedtime soon, kinda disapppointed but that's the way it go when you try to jump on a big complex game like this at zero hour. So no hard feelings, BF3 devs.

My 6970 @ 1920*1200 can run this game very well(~80% of the time over 60 fps with occasional dips to the low 40s) with all options at Ultra, but with Deferred MSAA turned off and Post AA to high. Game looks amazing, and while Post AA isn't great, it really does help compared to nothing. A 580 should have absolutely no trouble with these settings at 1080P.

Map size is pretty close to BF2, but all the objective are tightly grouped together. So all the action is confined to a fairly small area. It would really be great if they would have spread them further out for the PC.
 
This is a recurring theme in my life... software just stops working and then you can never use it again.
 
lol loving the rubber band deniers, about 80% of the servers I've tried have been rubber banding, and there's people actually claiming its smooth.

Btw this shouldn't have been released like this, most games are more polished in beta. When will dice figure this shit out, it absolutely has cost them sales in the past and will again now. As of right now I can't recommend this game to anyone, but in a month I'm sure it will be fine. Same shit all over again.
 
Ahhhh yes. launch day happiness! my only bitch is, I bought the disc... and Im having to download it from origin....but it just asked me to insert disc 2. so i dont know if its installing from the disc or downloading it and using the disc to check the data.

either way... super excited to play this beast!
 
Seems to rubber band more when one team gets to under 50 tickets.

All high, single 460, runs more than well enough for these eyes. Waaaay better than the beta was.

Battlelog however does NOT like refreshing the server list.
 
wow i just started battlefield 3 a bit.

there is a freaking bug!!!!

I was suppose to follow the squad. so I went into a corner of the wall.

The other squad members also went there.

I wasnt suppose to go there but I couldnt go to the place I could because the other squad members were blocking me!!!

bug. EA wow failed in the second level.
 
FML, I fucked up with the installation process and now I have to download the entire game again. Gotto wait for another hour arghh, gotto find excuse to go work late tomorrow.
