Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Actually the type-88 is exclusive, the dao-12 and other unlockables are just early access though. I think the SKS flash suppressor will only be avail through this as well(perhaps made avail. down the line for everyone through a patch).

Flash suppressor was an unlock in the beta for everyone

The pre-order bonus are so insignificant. The only one that matters is the Back to Karkand maps, everything else will be forgotten by the second day of release.
The extra maps will be playable at a later date so everyone will have the same game at launch.

It was only like BC2 if you played Metro Rush. Conquest on Caspian was literally nothing like BC2. The new batman will be far more like the old batman than Conquest maps will be to BC2.

caspian was still very similar to BC2...just a bigger map. Game play wise, it really didn't change.

Do the choppers feel more like BF2 ish or BC2 ish?I personally felt that they fucked up the chopper controls in BC2.

It was very much like BC2, yes. It felt like a slightly larger Laguna Alta Conquest with a couple more vehicle types. I still loved it though.

Hmm, don't recall seeing the words "exclusive" before. That is pretty damn stupid, in my opinion. No pre-order of any type should give you additional weapons or modifications.

The BF3 pre-order mess is almost as bad as the Tron soundtrack debacle; in no way could you get the complete soundtrack at any single location, or even three locations for that matter. Seemingly every retailer had an exclusive track. Bunch of jackasses

Regarding the feel of the choppers; to me it felt like it was on ice with how it slid one way or another. I prefer BC2's chopper feel and honestly hated almost everything about BF2's vehicles, lol, so beware my bias.

it doesn't, you were right the first time. read the links darkhorse and i posted.

You can buy SpecAct kits+Special Dog Tag keys now from certain semi legit sites I've used in the past to buy Steam games (keys in stock!). Runs about $7 bucks, but considering I got the game as a gift this is looks tempting to have all preorder bonuses. I don't know what the rules are about posting those links so I'll just say it is one of the more typical and reliable places.

I personally think that certain aspect of BC2 are worth retaining. BF2 was a great game but some of the gameplay was just frustrating.

From that Dice presentation : "WE HAVE MANY MORE FROSTBITE 2 GAMES IN DEVELOPMENT" -- Woot! Can you say BF1944?

Just because they are Frostbite doesn't mean they are Battlefield games. I believe the new Need for Speed is Frostbite and I could picture the next Mirror's Edge could be too.

Oh please, you know they will make another with the same engine. They are talking about "real PC games."

"What are you taking about Wilson?!?" Mirror's Edge was a real PC game and the sequel will be too. To be a PC game, doesn't mean just Battlefield. It is a nice engine and I'm sure we are going so see several titles with everything from 2.0 to 2.5 in the next 2-3 years (bet you that BadCo3 will be 2.5 or a sad excuse for 3.0). After all, the multiplayer part of MoH was frostbite 1.5.

More likely they are referring to Need for Speed the Run, Medal of Honor 2011, and Mirrors Edge 2...

I'm looking forward to all of these, especially Mirror's Edge 2! I really hope that one makes it to retail. It's been touch-and-go ever since they started talking about it, it seems.

I got into the beta during it's last few days, and I wasn't a big fan of it the first few hours I played. After getting a hang of the game mechanics, map and bugs... I'm now having withdrawls from not playing in over a week. This is going to be a long week of waiting!

pretty cool presentation of the stats. i'm shocked that 8 million people played the beta.

635m was not the longest headshot recorded during the beta, the longest was about 900m+ and was even featured in the twitter feed from DICE!

Yeah I got 700-800 a couple of times... and the people I was shooting weren't afk like the people in the 900+ meter kills.

if they could make the bf3 a real game instead of arcade for kids it be good before they develop new arcade games.

There was never anything more satisfying than nailing a moving target from an insane distance.

Especially BC2 with the 12x scope on Atacama. Nailing the UAV operators and small squads running along the hill.

How do they know an aimbotter didn't do it out of curiosity? I mean Ive had some long long at the edge of vision through the fog shots on BC2, got like 800 points for it, I am just curious as to if they know its a legit shot.

edit: Although further reading newer posts, seems long ass shots aren't too bad to pull off. I didn't get into the beta to see how well sniping works since I am currently stuck in the sandbox with terribad internet.

*shrug*

My thought is that they don't since PB wasn't on for the beta.

Sounds like you're trying a weak troll, however the terrible grammar and spelling makes it difficult to understand.

Shit BF3 arcade would be sweet, course arcades don't really exist anymore given mobile gaming platforms are so prevelant. :p

All they really care about is that 8 million people installed origin. Sadly, I caved too. BF is one of the very few series that could make me do such a thing.

well if they're going to force their software on us, BF3 is the right title to do it with. i remember hating being forced to install steam in order to play HL2....7 years later and steam is my preferred place to purchase. perhaps origin will grow on people as well. *BAM dead horse*

If Prone is back I will not be purchasing BF3. I know that sounds like an asshole thing to say but it just gets too frustrating to have like 30 people lying prone in a field waiting for someone to twitch. It's boring.

Guess you're not buying then, because it is.

I don't get the hatred against prone. I can lay down in real-life, so why wouldn't I be able to lay down in the game? It's not like it confers some magical advantages in the game that don't accrue in real-life - and if anything, the BF3 implementation is superior to the BF2 one because you can't do anything else while transitioning from up to prone and back, and it takes time (whereas in BF2 it was basically instantaneous).
