Dead Island - Best Open World Zombie Game Ever?

Anyone else had a glitch where you will randomly drink alcohol after jump kicking? Even if you don't have alcohol equipped? It's happened a few times now and it kind of annoying.

that's some hardcore badassery. drink after jump kicking a zombie... like a boss.

Yeah I think that happened to me once. Also why do you automatically equip the alcohol when you pick it up? I always end up drinking it by accident when the next zombie comes.

Most of the issues I had with the game have been patched or modded. So far, so good, but I haven't had much time to play. Sure, there are some random design decisions (repairing costs money? huh?) but nothing game breaking.

The only thing that I'd really like to have, that the modders haven't figured out yet, is a dedicated save system. Doesn't have to be quick save/load, but I'd like to be able to save at workbenches or when exiting the game (as opposed to picking up or completing a quest). I was playing, did a few quests, got halfway through another one and had to get up from the game. I just left it idling, intending to be back as soon as possible, but sometimes things take 10 minutes and sometimes they take longer. It wouldn't hurt to be able to save and quit.

It's because you're pressing F for too long when picking it up. Or, rather, there is a ridiculously small amount of time between tapping F to pick up and "holding" F to equip/use. There is a mod to increase the time.

I'm pretty sure I just tap the key like with all non-weapons. I'll see what's going on next time I play.

That is just how little time between tap and hold that there is. Either way, there is a mod to help fix that.

So I started a new character as Logan just to play around...man his Fury mode is boss.

I gave Hank the car parts, and the quest is completed, but I can't drive the truck? Maybe it just bugged...

Make sure you're on the drivers seat. :p Confused me at first too.

Yeah, that's not the issue...I think the quest bugged out. Both doors are open and the hood is still up, but I can't talk to Hank, and there's no option to fix the truck either?

He needs some time to put the parts in. Do a couple more quests and it should be ready.

My weaps are all legendary/epic/blues and all slots filled. Durability is far more pleasing than greens and whites. I can go through maybe 2-3 weapons before I reach the next repair shop. Their has only been one chapter that put a stress on my weapons. It was in chapter 14 and the escort felt ridiculously long on single player, I maybe went through 4 weapons, but still had 3 backups.

Even though my lvl 18 blue has similar damage to a 24 weapon, the durability on it is 70:1 while the greens at my level are like 20:1. (just an example, not exact) besides the fact my 18 weapon has an enchant on it, durability is the sole reason I hold on to it. Nothing worse than breaking a weapon while you're hacking away at zombies. Oh wait, maybe drinking alcohol on accident because it automatically replaces your weapon. Lmao

Geez man, over the last half hour of gaming, they decided to just throw waves after waves of Infected at me in the city. I'm gonna have nightmares of that high-pitched scream now I think...I caught myself getting legitimately freaked out. I had like six on me at one time while trying to fight a Thug, even.

yea, they definitely need to do something with the mic situation. I have the ability to turn my mic off with the push of a button, but i was caught off guard yesterday.

My fiancee works nights and I happen to be working nights also atm. We got home around the same time, so we did our business. :D After sleeping I woke up and started to play Dead Island. I happen to be in a game with 3 other guys when my fiancee comes up and gives me a hug. In a lovey-dovey voice she said, ' how come you always want to do stuff in the morning? :) " I quickly pushed the button on my mic to turn it off and said ' you know they just heard that right? ' She started to laugh and asked if they were saying anything. Needless to say I never heard the end of it till I had to go to work a few hours later, LOL!

Weird bug - I picked up that Waterdance quest (the one where you have to shut off 3 switches to turn off the electricity), and now every time I load my game it shows the "New quest - Waterdance" thing like 7 times. Really annoying.

Why is his hand always out like that? Is he checking his fingernails or something?

Hygiene is important during the zombie apocalypse.

But really, I think he's holding down RMB to cock back his weapon to throw it.

Played a lot. 52% complete on the main storyline, and just finishing up the side jobs in the city.

Game is Far Cry 2 meets Borderlands meets L4D. Enjoyable, but shit needs to stop repopulating immediately. No sense of progress.

That said, it runs excellently. I have everything on med-low at 1920x1200 on a 9800GT and I get 35-50 FPS typically, and it still looks great. Shame about the little niggles that remind you of the console influence, like the aim assist with firearms and whatnot.

You playing single player or with friends? If single player how is it?

Single player. I soloed Borderlands and don't have an issue with this. I've yet to have any particularly frustrating experiences, it seems fairly well scaled. The only real difficulty is the Thug zombies, simply because it takes a lot of time to kill them by yourself - being the only target you have to wait a lot and pick your shots to cripple their arms, lots of dodging involved.

Some little irritations like weapons going AWOL sometimes - there have been occasions where I've been running around and go to select my best weapon only to find it's buggered off. I don't know where they went, possibly they got dropped by accidentally pressing G instead of H to heal, or when I pick up a quest reward. There have been a couple of times where the game just completely stops recognising keyboard input when I go to a workbench and requires a kill process in task manager. Only twice in about 8-10 hours though.

I've read about several people having this issue but I've never seen it...I assume it only occurs when you have an empty weapon slot? I pretty much always keep them full so I guess maybe that's why I haven't ever had the issue.

Also, I've been having trouble finding this information, but what is the weapon color "hierarchy" or whatever you want to call it? Like, what color is best, worst, what order, etc?

If it's like most games then from worst to best,

white -> green -> blue -> purple -> orange.

Oh yeah, another bug is that sometimes items dont stack.. Happens quite often with alcohol.

Yep, this is one buggy game but damn, it is fun!

I've had Molotov stacking issues as well. I just drop the lone molotov and pick it up again, which forces it back with the main stack.

I can't get enough of this game. Rough start, but it's kept my attention for 20-some-odd hours so far.

I had mission continuity issues.
When I started act 3 and got to the town, I did a few missions and then started the one to go into the sewers and get the water back, that led right into the food supply mission that seemed to blend right into the police station mission-station gets wiped out. Basically in 30min the game jumped from act 3 to act 7...story made no sense, went back to the church to have them talk about how the police station people need to be taken care of....wtf.

This could stand to be patched again...I've been reading about, and just now experienced the bug where you throw a weapon into a zombie and then it just disappears into thin air. Lost a nice, fully-upgraded machete.

If it's like most games then from worst to best,

white -> green -> blue -> purple -> orange.

Ahh, thanks. Yeah I guess it's probably similar to Borderlands. I got an orange stick that was just called "Stick", lol. Put some nails on it and it's pretty bad ass.

fun game but so many issue and weirdnesses.

Hate that I can't explore all the huts and buildings. Hate that some buildings you can't actually open the door until you make the mission the active one. Zombies respawning like instantly some times. You turn your back to fight one, turn around at the ones you just killed at no longer there but new ones spawned.

I really dislike the weapon degrading, I can understand some weapons but like a big Fing pipe wrench? come on. I wish the emphasis wasn't so much on melee combat, but I guess it can't be helped, the game seems easy enough as it is, kick zombie, wack in head, zombie falls over, kick it till it dies.

the driving is wacked, it kinda reminds me of ARMA but the mouse look just doesn't really work.

Seems like the could have done so much more..

I STILL can't figure out the item screen, specially the weapon equiping...I never get the weapon I want in my hands if I have multiple there. Like the game picks a slot at random. I HATE that is some times (not all the time) auto switches to a new weapon I just picked up.

EDIT:
I also can't use Fraps while playing. When i hit the button to 'start recording' the game just goes wacky, most of the time I can no longer walk, or I get stuck walking forwrd endlessly.

Same thing happened to me. I also got the phone off the russian restaurant owner, and when I went back to the bunker to give it to the heli pilot he'd vanished.

Getting a lot of inadvertent boozing incidents too. Really actually very annoying. I cannot see at all why you would want to equip alcohol, much less consume it, but still it pops it in the slot where I keep my best weapon and I end up blundering around woozily getting seven shades kicked out of me.

And why the hell do crowbars deteriorate to the point where they're unusable after hitting human beings? Those things are made for attacking flagstones and dealing with some hardcore rubble.

You might want to look over at Steam forum in the thread about fixes.
There's a guy working on the ability to place weapon slots in number keys, like most normal games.
I'm not sure it's done yet.....but that thread has a ton of useful stuff to fix the game for PC users.:D

I was enjoying the game until I can't load past the Hotel level in Chapter 3. I get the armored truck, then when it loads the next area -- CTD. Game was working flawlessly up until then.

I sure hope it's not because I decided to change the FOV, which is all I've done to change settings... really don't like getting sick after 2 hours.
