Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

TSD, just a heads up.. You way want to update you picture in the getting started section with the "pool." on the screenshot of GUiMiner

Holy crap, Simplecoin. 5 blocks in a week! I only took part in 2 because my scripts moved me off. I'm so sad. For a 40GH/s pool, everybody gets a huge share compared to a 2000GH/s pool.

Simplecoin be kicking the asses. If things continue thus I'll be jumping on the next Spotswood order and splitting my mining rig and my HTPC. Right now I have a profile saved that knocks my clock speed on my 2 6970s down to about 500 so the fans aren't running full blast if I want to watch a movie.

Thanks, I'll just pull it down for now.... GUI miner doesn't play nice with my ubuntu install, plus it's lack of updates isn't encouraging. The pool has been in the repository to be automated for almost 2 months.

I'd much rather everyone was using cgminer. Something about sub 1% stales is just sexy.

Damn, I wish I had joined a 40GH/s pool, the 2000GH/s pool I'm on has only found 117 blocks this week :(
Oh wait...

I think it's time someone makes that mining team thread that was recently talked about. Don't want to see this thread turn into an advertisement.
P.S: People should be aware of my crankyness so I apologize if I offend anyone.

Want me just take a screenshot of my GUIminer for you?

And I DL'd CG miner, but never bothered to figure out how to set it up.. I cant really stand the terminal style setups, too hard to manipulate on the fly with my phone with Teamview if something goes wrong..

Wish they would update GUIminer with the newer tweaks.

I don't want to make this an ad, we just got really lucky this week. I won't discredit any of the reputable larger pools. Heck, I used deepbit, btcmine, btcguild & eligius before I got my pool framework off the ground.

I'm only here cause it's nice to see fellow [H] members in on the mining.

No worries. I'd hope GUI miner is explanatory enough :)

(edit) Thanks for the image Evil.

So my new 6950 arrived. Do I just put it in and it will be recognized with my 5870?

good luck.. I had a 5830 + 5850 and a modded 6950 (unlocked).. They wouldnt play nice.. CCC gives the 69XX card the option for power boost, but it tried to boost all cards.. Caused a lot of crashed so I finally pulled it out and traded it for 2x 5750's and will remove the other 5830 for my next build.. If you plug it in and dont really mess with the clocks youll be OK.. Anything over about 300MHash and it would start crashing my system, even without the boost.. When I had it in a machine by itself or with another 6950 I was getting 420MHash

@tsd
Damn, that was a quick change, lol..
If you wanna give me a quick tutorial on getting CGminer to work ill give it a shot.

Using modified shortcut or run from CMD as admin
L:\Progs-Tools\Windows\BitCoin\cgminer-1.5.3\cgminer.exe -o http://pool.simplecoin.us:8337 -u EvilJuggalo.1 -p password -l 8
It immediately crashed (No password is not my password, im not that tarded people)
Fails, with or without the -l 8

Is there anyone here playing the exchange markets in a semi regular way? Asking because I have 10 invites to Ruxum, the private exchange ran by the former e-commerce team of Citigroup. They have no fees during the private beta period and whoever I invite will get a lifetime discount once the site goes live and fees are turned on. Coins have been traded there at a consistently higher value than on mtgox and tradehill since it opened, though volume is understandably much lower.

PM me your email address. (9 left)

On other exchange related news. Tradehill announced it's about to launch it's own e-wallet service at bitcoin.com. Exactly what mybitcoin.com offered and it will also offer mobile payment integration and merchant services (very cool). You can sign up for the beta at http://bitcoin.com/

I never overclocked that card nor tried to unlock the shaders fearing I would damage it before you finished paying. Give it a try see if you get lucky or at least check how high it will overclock. :)

How has BTC Guild's luck been? On a 40GH/s pool, of which I make up over 4GH/s I make 5 BTC per block. Simplecoin has found 5 blocks this week. That's more than I would have made on BTC Guild. That said, I missed out on some of them because of bad timing of RL hardware issues and my own negligence.

It averages out over time just fine. You need to let people mine where they want and stop being cranky.

I've been buying at high nines and selling at mid-high tens. The margins are very thin. You have to make it up with huge volume. It's basically day trading. I put all my disposable income into mining hardware since the return is more steady and guaranteed that way so I don't have that much cash to play around with playing the exchanges. What have you been doing?

BTW, I just got a Sapphire 6950 from the B.C. retailer we cannot mention here. I'll be trying the gum mod soon. Thanks for posting the info about that again

I just joined simplecoin so consider the lucky streak over.

Pretty much the same, but I've used only my mining profits ~$1.2k plus whatever I mine and stuff I've sold on the forums as well (like those 4 Sapphire 5850s I bought for $145each then sold for $165 a piece locally through craiglist).

If it is one of those dual fan models like the dirt3 edition it won't work (speaking from experience)

HOLY CRAP THATS LOUD!!! fans are at 100% instead of 70% with my 5870 by itself. How do I get trixx to read each card seperately? And how do I get the degrees to come down so that the fans can go down as well? I was used to 70C. Its currently at 85C AND 100% fan speed.

edit: what is the best way to overclock independently?

Edit2: what degree do I NOT want to hit?

2nd machine :D
Told ya, lol

And yeah, if its a reference design, its always gonna be loud unless you have it in a cooler room and can turn the fans down.. To my knowledge there is no way to control the fans seperately with TRIXX.. But it only has to run as high to keep your hottest card in the green.. or yellow.. My unlocked 6950, I ran at 70% fan with a 20% power boost and 888 on the cards CPU, stayed around 172F.. You can drop the memory to half or less (Whatever low you find stable) as its not needed and will help reduce heat.. and if you are trying to do this on your primary daily driver rig, I would suggest getting flash/java blocker extensions so you dont lock up your computer everytime you hit a youtube link.

How do I know if I have a 6950 that can unlock?

Reference design 1st run 6950's had a full body HSF and a turbine style fan at the rear... They had a BIOS switch..

There are newer models that require a physical mod to see if the extra shaders are unlockable, but there is no surefire way to tell. Plus, you run the risk of voiding the warranty or burning up the card if you do a BIOS flash wich includes a voltage mod.. It works on some, and not on others.. YMMV

As long as a card has a dual BIOS switch you can try the easy way. Get GPU-Z and dump the BIOS of the card with the switch in position 1. Then use Radeon BIOS Editor (RBE) to mod the BIOS with the shader unlock, nothing more. Turn off the machine, flip the switch to position 2 and flash the card using atiflash with the modded BIOS. If the unlock was succesful GPU-Z should show that the card has the full 1536 shaders of a 6970.

Sweet. I'll try tomorrow. Sleep now. Good thing my comp is downstairs. Sooooo loud.

I'll give it a try.

Any setup guides for Windows? Or just a command line or something to use for best performance?

Sent invites to everyone who PM'd me. If you didn't receive one is because you didn't PM me your email address, I need that to send the invite. (3 left)

P.S: Oh snap, [strike=1]small rally overnight, coins at $11.38 as of this moment.[/s] rally still going on, coins at $11.53. There is a literal mountain of demand so there is a good chance we'll be reaching $12. It might be a good time to put those freshly minted coins up for sale at an exchange. :)

Just switch from phoenix/poclbm to cgminer. Gained about 10mhash/s in Windows, and 10-15mhash/s in Ubuntu :)

Well, I just sold some a bit ago at $11.55, so it's almost guaranteed to go up now ;)
