Homefront - March 2011

I bit. took all night to download so I got to kill one guy and then go to work. More tonight at 11.

Not after adverting but it's $23 at everybodys favorite auction house.

did you have any issues with that? i've never purchased a game in that manner because i was concerned with getting a non-legit key.

boxed scan is available in the one I purchased from, but yeah I mean I walked in knowing I might get ripped off if the seller/cd was fake. You have to make that choice. the guy I purchased from had excellent ratings. Even retail boxed Homefront is selling on ebay for under $30 though so thats an option if youd prefer.

That's the most I'd consider paying for it.

I'll be honest for me it's a donation. I paid $23 and I'll play the multiplayer for one reason. Homefront took a risk in changing the status quo for multiplayer gaming. They are marginalizing personal action and making teamplay important. In the MFPS industry this badly needs to happen. So much so I think the next big MFPS should punish people for camping and snipers should get 1/2 points for anything that isnt a team action. So they get $23 and a couple hours out of me. Fucking up an amazing idea on the single player and not doing destructible environments deducted $27 from the games value to me.

i was watching an auction from a legit-looking seller for a $26 steam key. it had 6 minutes left when i posted above, decided to hold off. more so because i don't think i'd get $26 of enjoyment out of it than anything else. thanks for the info though piscian18, i'll keep an eye on ebay in the future if i decide to hunt for a bargain price on Homefront.

Ok I just played about 30min of Homefront. OK it apparently was an hour. Anyway Pretty damn awesome. It's like battlefield but you earn money and can unlock/buy stuff. Cars tanks Rocket launchers etc nd the multiplayer looks good about on par with BC2(imo) a decent amount of Graphical options. I had very little trouble getting a grip on what was going on and where my place was in it. The only problem is the maps are friggin huge. If you like BF2 this was be more for you. I'm not sure if the maps are too big. The servers seem limited to 16v16. I'd like to see that raised. Oh my only complaint is it's HC only as far as I can tell. Only takes a couple shots to kill.

My feedback is this. If you're looking for a battlefield/BC2 replacement until BF3 comes out I highly recommend this. If you're looking for CoD it isn't. It's not very fast paced everything is pretty tactical.

I really hope the community picks up for this. I'm disappointed that most of the mainstream reviews highlighted the single player which I could care less about. I knew what this was going in. Then again I played counter-strike for 5 years before bothering to play half-life. I've put couple hundred hours into BC2 and I've never play more than 5 minutes of the single player.

I wish this was received as a multiplayer game rather than single player with multiplayer attached

I'm really hoping the community picks up for this.

I've been playing since launch and for the most part I'm having fun with it. I dont see myself going back to cod anytime soon. I would get more out of the game if I could set my air controls the way I wanted. Why didnt they make the chopppers fly the same as the drones?

Most of the negativity from what I have seen everywhere is revolved around the SP. The multi-player is actually quite awesome, really recommend it to people. They have been rolling several stability patches, and are actually releasing public dedicated server files in a week+.

There are certain elements that are annoying: IE the waiting room after each map being 60 fucking seconds, but a patch should add something like that in.

Who the fuck is the moron, that coded the jumping?!? I would like to give him/her a swift kick where the sun dont shine..

Why is it so damn challenging to jump forward...? (from a stand still i mean)

Most irritating thing ive come across so far.. almost enough to make it not worthy of anymore play time.

oh and for:
+1 being able to chat inbtween matches would be nicer.. how about in-game where you can look at during gameplay
and anybody else, to view / chat while in lobby hit the tilde (~) button :)

Hmm.. never really payed much attention to the jumping. Guess I'll have to see what that's all about.

Oh and thanks for the chat tip. I was wondering why there was no way to shit talk without waiting until the next round begins. :D Speaking of... how many actually use the voicechat ingame? I see little speaker icons but never hear anyone talking. Reminds me of when I play on the PS3 but without the random asshats blasting music or yelling at their little brother/sister.

Anyone playing still? Game is getting more and more hackers..

Hit me up on steam: Tipsysmile if anyone wants to play a few games..

This patch will update the client to version 1.0.3 and is currently undergoing internal testing and is scheduled for release early next week! The complete list of changes can be found below in the story.

FEATURES

NEW FEATURE – DEMO URL
- A DemoURL can now be specified in the server playlist, this is used to indicate the location of stored demo files to user’s in-game (see the multiplayer options screen). A good practice for server admins would be to share the demo folder via FTP, this would allow users to grab demos of games they starred in, and also (very importantly!) allow users and anti-cheat authorities to download evidence for cheat reporting. Incidentally, it is now possible to dump all users unique steamID's from both in-game, and in-demos to the console or text file (this will make reporting abusive players and enforcing bans incredibly easy).

Improved Squad Based Gameplay
- Players will now re-spawn at a point nearest to the closest member of their squad.
- Squad mates will now be colored blue on the mini-map and full-screen maps.

GAME BALANCE
- RPG's now deal additional damage to HMMWV's
- Lowered m200 and m110 sniper rifle damages. The only 1 shot possible is now headshots.
- Flak jacket now has a lower BP cost, and a slight effectiveness buff.
- Diablo damage adjusted
- Weapon is taken out of ADS and accuracy decreases when jumping.

OPTIMIZATIONS & FIXES
- The Rhino drones weapon attachment was not being properly moved with the Rhino drone on dedicated servers, causing the rockets to fire incorrectly. This is now fixed.
- We have added some animation optimizations for large player games.
- Several UI related improvements were added for large player games .
- Fixed scaling text zooming on Battle Commander when opening up the battle chat or squad UI.
- Switched the buttons around on the load out rename confirmation dialog to better abide by conventions.
- Improved SLI/CrossFireX support.
- A few reported issues with WinXP 64 bit edition have been addressed.
- Improved menu navigation with analogue controls.

General Improvements
- User feedback for kicks and bans has been improved.
- The intermission lobby now displays clan tags.
- Text chat is now possible in the kill cam, spawn selection, and intermission lobby screens.

New Settings & Control Options
- EnableD3D10/11 is now accessible via the system settings menu.
- Mouse acceleration is now accessible via the controls menu.
- Mouse smoothing is now accessible via the controls menu.

All this = GOOD! Lets hope its implemented right though.

I just checked the Steam stats page and the game is peaking at 3300 players world wide. And that number will include some people who only played single player. For a game that came out less than 2 weeks ago, only 3000 players playing it globally is pretty much disastrous.

If it was an established franchise i'd agree, but a new game trying to pull away players from established franchises is going to have problems.

i checked last night and it was around the same (3300 at the time) and i had the same thought as you. i don't think the MP will stay alive very long which is a shame because it looks pretty fun.

Hey. Hat's off to 'em. At least they're supporting their product and in a fairly timely manner.

I'd think a known Franchise like Crysis 2 only having 8k players worldwide less than a week after release is a lot more disastrous.

I'm enjoying homefront, as long as THQ continues to push out updates and fixes I think it can do OK.

I played through and finished the SP this weekend. It was very very short. I didnt time it, but id say around 3 hours total.. I thought it was pretty good. All the video reviews are right. As soon as the action got fast paced and good, it just ends.

I already posted something way earlier about my thoughts on multi-player.

[I wouldn't be surprised if] This sort of stuff was all mentioned in Alpha. Directly to the devs in person, and [that] they even commented on some stuff themselves. The fact that it's taken them this long to address it makes me very pleased I held off buying. Doesn't bode well.

I'm glad I didn't buy this thing but I'm sad that it didn't live up to what clearly had ALL kinds of potential.

I'm overdue to have an excuse to plug an amazing game people overlooked, but there was a game in the past that kind of had a similar concept to this except it was the Soviets taking over instead of unified Korea: Freedom Fighters. IMO an all time classic that everyone needs to play.

Update is out!.

But dont expect to be able to play it..
I get good FPS now, but too bad, im getting CTD's and connection errors every time i try to play.

Weird, I don't see any of the new interface changes (added graphics options or added control options). It says I'm running version 1.0.3*.

Also, would it be too hard for them to let us change the singleplayer FOV?

sigh like 200 people playing now. what a waste. I'm seeing tons of graphical options now though.

This and Bulletstorm, I believe, are going to be two titles I'll save for a five dollar sale. There are too many great games on my shelf that I'm neglecting at the moment.

That said, if they were to release a demo... a demo could knock me out. I need to see the engine at work before I commit to anything.

200? where you getting your numbers, its at 960 at 5:40AM Not great but better than 200. Not to mention its holding up better than crysis 2 which is dropping like a rock

I logged in around 11pm and there only a couple hundred people playing period. only or two servers were full at 32 and their ping was so high I couldn't play there.

I don't think Kaos is doing a good job of pulling people in. Even Killing Floor has tons more players.

dammit now Im in the mood for some killing floor

Death knell rung for this thing yet?

Killing Floor...hmmm...maybe I need to finally check that game out.
