It only took four months, but Call of Duty: Black Ops has already taken the top spot as the best-selling game in U.S. history.

Since its release in November, Black Ops sold 13.7 million units in the U.S. combined across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, and Nintendo DS, according to retail tracking firm NPD.

Below is the latest, best-selling list of video games in the U.S. to date as provided by NPD:

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops
2. Wii Play W/ Remote
3. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
4. Guitar Hero III Legends Of Rock
5. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
6. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
7. Mario Kart w/ Wheel
8. New Super Mario Bros
9. Wii Fit
10. Call Of Duty: World At War

13.7 million units?

With 12 million subscriptions you'd think WOW has sold at least that many copies?

This is about the US, where WoW only has 2-3 million subscribers. Not sure how many they've sold, but probably not 12 million.

All of North America actually, but it doesn't matter. NPD's PC numbers aren't worth shit anyway.

Depressing.

As Oscar Wilde once said "Everything popular is wrong!

This will unfortunately encourage more COD-esque dumbed down FPS games

Sadly I wasted my $60 on BLOPS for the preorder, it seemed oh so great. Haven't touched in a long time, just too damn bad. MW2 is even more fun and thats saying a lot right there

Skipping COD:BO this year was one of my best decisions...new maps for BC2 breathed some new life into that great game.

.

This is sad, I am a huge CoD fan but I think that Black Ops is weaker than MW2 or CoD 4 (especially CoD 4). People get so hooked on "the series" and automatically buy it, I'd have happily skipped BO if all my friends didn't pressure me into getting it.

Its kind of a fun game, I dont really like playing online anymore. FPS was always a fairly big genre its just strange to see it dominate the market so heavily. I hate that the market is now saturated with a bunch of FPS games I dont care about. I will say Modern Warfare 1 was completely awesome though. The perk system was perfect, not over powered, just the right amount of benefit without getting out of control.

great... A whole generation of kids will grow up dancing to Kotick's money-flute

I cant hate on the COD's in this list too much. I think its inferior to the fps shooters I used to play like RTCW, UT, and Q3. I'd probably think they were pretty fun had I not played on the 50-60 man 24x7 beach servers when I was in school. I miss the days when the point was just to pwn and not ranking up an getting achievements.

That list is CRAP:

That is worldwide....

Way to go consumers, thanks for telling companies they can release the same game every year for $60 and each one will be more successful than the last.

I will admit it openly, I loved MW2, and would buy it again for $60, I have almost 600 hours on that game, so I got my money out of it. Blops sucks, terrible POS, I have maybe 85 hours including single player. MW3 is probably going to be a purchase for me.

You realize the talent behind MW3 is not IW. Follow the talent not the company. It would be like following all Universal movies instead of the director Steven Spielberg. No one does that LOL... Guess it proves how dumb the gaming community is. But then again I already knew that cause people continue to buy 60$ games.

Yeah I am very dumb, I just usually buy games that I enjoy  . Not everyone left IW, there are still a few old members there. Also, $60 for 600 hours, good deal to me.

I know what you mean, could be because I got bored with the same style, could be the servers running only nuketown, but I have more than 13 days on MW2 and less than two for black ops.

I have to laugh every time people pull the "spent x hours, so worth it". By that mentality, every game should have mindless fps-multiplayer with token customization and onscreen highscore for variety, 60$ pricetag and 15$ shitty DLC, little to no singleplayer, multiple similar fullprice successors, etc...

luckily there are people actually concerned about making good games, but if everyone wanted to maximize profits I bet it would involve making even more shitty shooters

The top ten consists of 40% COD? I think they might be on to something. :)

Yeah, people are dumb as shit and deserve the shit that's sold to them.

ps, Britney Spears sells a lot of records, doesn't mean shit either ;)

What? CoD is there for multiplayer, now anyways. I still found the MW2 and BLOPS campaign to be really fun. Also, MW2 is still fun now, 3rd nuke in one night woo :p
