PS3 Doesn't See Video Files

I was under the impression that my PS3 Slim has the ability to read and playback .avi files. I know when I try and stream .avi files from a server to the PS3 over the network, it works great but when I add files to the a USB flash drive that's formatted in FAT32 and each file is under 4 GB's in size, it never even sees the files. It just tells me this folder has no files which I know is false because I can see them on my BluRay player and MacBook Pro.

Is there a trick to get my PS3 to read files or any kind of media on my USB flash drive?

Thanks for any info.

make sure your medias are in their respective subfolders...

usb:\MUSIC\
usb:\VIDEO\
usb:\PICTURE\

You're telling me that the PS3 O.S. will only detect media unless they're following a hideous naming schema in call CAPS?

unless something changed with recent FW releases, then yes :)
i don't think it's case-sensitive, but the folder names has to exist.

To automatically find them yes. Kinda stupid. But if you don't want to follow their scheme you can hit triangle as mentioned and view all files.

FYI, just because it's .avi, doesn't mean it can read them. AVI is the container, the video and audio may be encoded with codecs that are not supported by the PS3.

I use a program like this that allows you to select a video, choose PS3, and have it convert to a format the PS3 can read.

I do that and some files are still not seen. I think it may have to do with how the files are named themselves. I converted a load of .flv files to .avi and the PS3 could not see them or claimed they were corrupt, even though they play on my PC fine. I've never come acoss a media box yet that doesn't suck in one way or another and that includes the PS3.

go to the flash drive in the video sub menu

press triangle > display all > play your porn

I do do that but obviously the PS3 comes with shitty codecs that can't play all my porn.
