I had some spare parts laying around so I figured I'd put them to use and build a HTPC for my basement which I'm setting up to have a projector and 5.1 surround sound.

I had a "fried" motherboard that was victim to a shorted out usb port earlier this year. While looking for a decent mobo, I decided to give this thing one final try before shipping it off to gigabyte land. Voila! It works! The only new part I bought for this was the cpu. I'm tired now, so I'll post pics later. Here's the rundown of my HTPC.

AMD Athlon II x 2 255 @3.1ghz
Corsair XMS3 2 x 2gb PC12800
Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P
WD Caviar Blue 1TB hdd
WD Caviar SE 500GB hdd
Sapphire HD5450
Corsair 400w psu
Antec 300
Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit

The Antec 300 case also is missing the side panel because it was victim from an xbox controller beatdown(sorry antec 300:()

I'm going to have this ran through;

Audio:
Yamaha VX-R365 5.1 Receiver
2x Polk Monitor 50 floorspeakers
2x Polk Monitor 30 bookshelf speakers
1x Polk CS1 Center channel
1x Polk PSW10 10" powered Subwoofer

Excellent start. I have been debating on getting a projector setup. Have to figure out a different configuration for this room first.

Thanks guys. I recently bought a Thermaltake V4 case from MC for cheap and as soon as I swapped the internals into that case, the GF jacked my "HTPC" and is using it as her desktop now instead of her netbook. I'm at a crossroads, build her a pc, or build myself a higher-end htpc maybe using the Sandy Bridge i5-2400s processor and a GTX-460. I think it would be pretty nice on the big screen! The most likely option is probably just to take my htpc back lol!

I'm in the process of painting the room that everything is housed in, and I haven't been taking pics of my progress. This weekend, I plan to have the main painting done, except for the trim and baseboards. I'm also running my power outlet to the projector. It'll be powered using a 12" power cable. Also running a component/hdmi jack up top and hopefully will only have two 12" wires exposed.

Sorry for lack of pictures, but thanks for visualizing! Pics soon! My plan is to have the "man cave" done in time for the Super Bowl!

What colors you gonna pick? are you going to paint the ceiling black?

No, the white panel drop ceiling is what I'll be rocking. It was here when I bought the house. The walls are a dark red color. I didnt like the sample too much but it does look good(IMO) on the walls. I'll take a pic this weekend when I finish painting. The trim is bare wood right now, as I'm not 100% sure on a trim color. I may rock the bare wood too!
