Hi, I love this type of defense game.... but don't know which one to start...
HoN - $30 (is it worth it?)
Lol - I'm playing this now, and it's pretty fun, but HoN looks like it has way better graphics, and I hear from friends that do play it, that it is faster then Lol.... Which one to play... Can I get input from players who has played both thoroughly? Thank you!

HoN is straight DotA clone, but its a lot worse..

The only good part is it have good graphic and the match making system they have.

The colors and the darkness in game is horribly bad that you can hardly tell who the heck is enemy and who is not, and who is hero... It just too hard to freaking tell..

If I have to choice between HoN or LoL, LoL gets my vote..but if there is DotA.. DotA automatically won for me :p

rofl.. Hon is a much better game.

HoN is faster. But don't ask this question. It's like Mac VS PC. Just fanbois. Play both, $30 isn't bad for a game with a ton of depth.

DoTA = HoN = LoL

To make one broad statement, they are all the same and have their own perks/drawbacks. Check them out and just pick. You might want to load up LoL first since its free to play.

I play LOL. I liked the heroes a lot more, the slower speed was more to my tastes also. The community was just a little less harsh in LOL. Wait...a LOT less.

I played HoN and it's got a really really REALLY steep learning curve. I actually stopped playing it because I don't have the time to learn it.

I've played League of Legends and rather enjoy it, not too hard to get into and a blast to play.

I was play LoL today as annie, took mid and playing against corki. I was tower hugging mid for awhile. Than I got Tibbers and held my own.

Corki went off and got one gank. All of a sudden it was:

"LOL good job now your annie is screwed."

30 minutes into the game I died once, by a 4v1 gank. Corki who wasn't involved in it at all talked so much smack.

41 minutes into the game their team managed to kill my first tower in the lane. It's just so funny because this guy talked so much smack on how done I was, ulted multiple times to try to push my lane but ended up so unsucessful.

I ended up 2/1/7, which was okay but I didn't let them push my lane so it was all good. Love Annie and Amumu right now. I'm sure it'll change after awhile. I used to like Soraka and Garen but Garen is just OP as crap.

Go with the game that your friends are playing, IMO. You'd much rather have friends teach you how to play than have teammates yell at you for feeding. If you're already pro at this genre of game, you probably still want to play with friends.

I've dabbled in League of Legends recently. It's free to play. You can pretty much unlock everything eventually. One thing I don't like is how you get bound to a game.

For instance if you are getting your ass handed to you or are just not having fun with the hero you picked you can't go off and find a new game. Once you quit out of a game your only option is to reconnect to that game. Kinda lame.

you can use the /surrender command pretty early on into a game? 30sih min??

If anyone wants to babysite a noob katarina ganker -

add me under username - aziaone

Yea... there's a /surrender command that's available at 25 min if 4/5 players agree. I'd recommend it when your whole team is losing badly. If it's just you, just deal with it and try to learn something. Leaving would ruin the game for your teammates.

Try LOL since it is free, and watch HON videos on honcast.com to see what it is all about because that is free as well.

As for me, personally I play HON.

I've played all three and dota wins for me everytime. (well actually now sc2 won).

This is something you never want to do, ruins games for people.

I personally prefer the faster pace of HoN

Games last only 25-45mins, and it is intensive throughout.

Surrender is @ 25 minutes in LoL.

In my honest opinion, HoN is NOT faster than LoL, at least for me in high ELO games. HoN is a lot slower paced for me when I play, most games last up to 45-60 minutes.

Realistically IMHO when I tell friends, HoN if your srs bzn and need to have every single DoTA mechanic, LoL if you want to lay back and have some fun.

You are aware you can change brightness levels, colors of heros on the minimap to simplified (as in like red vs green, instead of each hero being what ever color they picked), and gamma on your graphics card?

As for the OPs question. HoN all the way!!!!

Start with LoL, its free.

Oh, and when you hear people saying 1 community is better than the other - bullshit.
The gameplay is the same for both, so if you make a mistake, your teammates will let you know - ALL GAME. No community is nicer than the other, that I assure you.

LOL, I've played both of them q uite ia while and HoN's community is FAR more harsh to new players then LoL's.

Both have their bad apples, but HoN the majority of people rage on you starting out terribly bad and drive many people to give up and move on because of it.

Look at the forums alone, you have plenty of htreads in the HoN forums of new players talking about how bad people are in-game to them, LoL forums? hardly see that.

After having played both, and the original DoTA, for long periods of time each.

I must say that I prefer League of Legends more then Heroes of Newerth.

If you prefer creep denial and extreme micro management try HoN.

If you prefer a more evenly suited playing field try LoL.

Both have a steep learning curve.

I bought a HoN account and I'm still hooked to LoL. I'd like to sell my virtually unused (only 2-3 practice games) HoN acct to somebody.

Send me a PM if interested, I'll sell it for half cost.

Oh, and I prefer LoL.... obviously!
Spent the $20 on amazon for the retail pack & I'm glad I did because of all the characters I got!

I like HoN because of its Linux client, excellent balanced gameplay, one-time-price, and extremely well designed client/UI, etc... but I HATE its bloody community ("BRs" are especially bad in this game for some reason). Play exclusively on noob servers/games unless you are really "into" HoN or DOTA, else you'll be raged at.

LoL I like the new characters but I'm not a a fan of the microtransaction junk and there's no Linux client while the Windows one "feels" rather cheap, but the game itself is much more fun for those who aren't hardcore.

summary i keep saying. HON for pros LOL for "noobs". If you never played dota then LOL is probably your route.
Many like LOL because of the free route.

^ and feeding and just plain playing stupid doesnt ruin games for people?

Not as bad as a feeder being stupid then ragequitting and instantly joining another game to do the same...

Try lol watch HoN vids, i prefer LoL personally but dont play much lately.

Oh, and when you hear people saying 1 community is better than the other - bullshit.

There are very large difference between the communities. I can say during my time in HoN i met more ragers than any other game i have ever played and LoL has more trolls than any game i have played besides WoW.

I've been playing LoL and honestly it plays like a Korean cash shop. You have level 30s with full rune pages who have thrown a significant sum of money into the game (I have friends who have spent well over $100). It is not a fair PvP experience, not because of levels but because individuals can throw money at the game and then perform significantly better. Combined with the four skills per character it really feels antiquated, it feels like I'm playing a 90s RTS mod. The mechanics of the game are simply too shallow, Diablo 2 was good back in the day but could never pass as good if it were to be released today.

I played some HoN back in the beta, and Ive been playing a bit of LoL with a guy in my class who is in the top 100 of Europe for fun.
As a newbie I prefer LoL because it is more intuitive and easy to learn for newer players, and also simply because people dont wish that your parents died from cancer because you bought 1 wrong item (and alot worse if you play bad.
With the perspective of a somewhat pro player, LoL apparently takes a ton of time to master. Also, if you want to play it more than casually, dont be afraid to compare spending 30 bucks in it VS buying HoN, although most of the things you buy are skins or obtainable trough playing

This is such ignorant horseshit its hilarious. You cannot buy runes or any sort of advantage with $$$, all you can buy are champs, skins and additional rune pages.

You cannot perform any better by throwing cash in. Sounds to me like someone gets his ass handed to him and wants an excuse.

I don't care about other people. If I'm not having fun I'm gonna take steps to have fun. If that means quitting the game to find a new group to play with then so be it.

Yes, I know about /surrender. It unlocks at 25 minutes if I'm not mistaken.

IP Boosts don't allow you to buy runes faster? The game is a crappy cash shop and the pvp experience is like going back in time with poor visuals to boot. If you want to play games that are shallow, we have consoles for that.
