Strange behavior with icons

Whenever I place a new application in my applications folder, it shows up as a crossed at icon whenever I click on my applications folder in my dock. Now after I launch it for the first time and allow it to run, I would think it should change to its normal icon. However, it just stays that way. I have to either drag the icon out on my desktop and back in the applications folder to fix it or do killall Dock. Is there a way to fix this?

Application icon status doesn’t update immediately after first launch. This isn’t a bug, so there’s nothing you need to fix.

Do you have a screenshot of what's happening?

Also, is it all applications, or only some applications?

Run Disk Utility and verify/fix disk permissions

I usually have to restart in order for the icon to refresh... what you're talking about isn't really an issue though. Next time you get a new app, just run it and then restart and see if it does the same thing.

I actually asked about this a while back (see thread here) and it's just one of those little things OSX does... It doesn't bother me anymore, but when I first had it happen I would open up Terminal and do the whole "kill Dock" thing.

Ok well I am glad to hear this is normal. Still kinda strange behavior to me, though. I think they should change it so the icon changes immediately.

It bugs me too, when most of the rest of the Finder auto refreshes its status pretty well. I guess I've learned to live with it.
