And the quote of the day belongs to….*drum roll*….Steve Jobs! And, just for the record, I like the new logo.

Steve, Enjoyed the presentation today. But … this new iTunes logo really sucks. You’re taking 10+ years of instant product recognition and replacing it with an unknown. Let’s both cross our fingers on this.

Jobs’ reply, terse as usual, was such:

We disagree. Sent from my iPhone

The new icon looks better and makes more sense. The old one is the notes over a CD. Who buys CDs anymore? It's about as dated as going to the record store.

Nike swoosh. McDonald's arches. ... Apple's.....Apple. icons are everything. Brand recognition is imperative to a successful business.

I don't spend all day staring at these things, so my shit-giving abilities are at an all time low. :p

The new one is just the iTunes store icon from iOS devices but without being a silhouette. At least the silhouette is tasteful. The full colour one looks like it just fell out of Windows Media Player.

is it just me or is there alot of "our product does not suck" news headlines coming from steve jobs? lol.

but personally i don't really care what the logo looks like as long as it works. it seems to work ok with my ipod and iphone.

The new logo doesn't look bad. It's just different. I find myself scanning my dock looking for the old iTunes icon. What I don't like is how the close/minimize/maximized buttons are rotated now.

I think quote of the day should belong to whoever does the iTunes icon twitter account:

“Everyone’s so quick to judge me,” iTunes10Icon tweeted early Friday. “I don’t judge you and that shitty, hipster music you listen to.”

What?!?!

People are complaining over an icon?

Seriously, don't they have something better to do?! Significants others maybe?

I would have thought the new icon was a music note in front of a pile of shit. It is a much more accurate symbol for the iTunes brand.

Icons are big deals they represent something. I think the age of being creative is dead.. Sigh..

Why does he bother responding to 0/10 trolls? He's the head of a multi-billion dollar company.

Would have been funny if he appended "Not a big deal." to his response.

So typical of the media. To actually discuss an new Apple icon. sheesh

So typical of forum people to discuss what the media is discussing.
So typical of me to discuss what forum people discuss about what the media is discussing. :D

The new one reminds me of windows.

Hmmm...

Dumb, but iTunes 10 is extremely fast; no more sluggish scrolling, syncing is much faster now as well.

I don't use/like iTunes under OSX. The only time I use it is to find out whats new and hot in the music world and then talk to my friend TPB. I use SongBird under OSX to play my music back.

I banned iTunes (even QT, dont even remember the last time I used it) from my Windows side and use MediaMonkey instead and load up the iPod there also. iPod is relegated to car use - I usually can everything and relaod it.

Interestingly, the same company does many of the icons for both Windows and Mac OS. Microsoft actually does very little of their own icon work from what I understand. Couldn't say if they (The Iconfactory) also did the new iTunes icon, but it's a fair bet that they did the original "music note over CD" icon.

Honestly, I think someone should tell Jobs that he "has no taste". Those who know history will find this amusing, and I'm sure he would as well. Between the new icon, the weird vertical window button arrangement (what the fuck?) and switching out distinct color icons in the sidebar for indistinct gray ones, Apple fucked up big on this one in my opinion. Not to mention that Ping is, well, stupid.

Same in OS X. iTunes has historically been much better on OS X than Windows, but the performance of iTunes is now actually up to snuff with the rest of the OS.

The new one isn't that much different. In fact, it's also a bunch of notes over a CD, just without the hole. It just looks a lot more cluttered.

I could care less about the icon. Does iTunes 10 suck as much as the old versions? I havent used it since iTunes 7....

Doesn't matter how much iTunes sucks or not, any software that behind my back also installs:

Bonjour services
Quicktime
and Apple Software Update

is NOT going on my machine. Why the f*** is a media player ~80MB

An icon that sucks for a program that sucks. Perfect.

After going from itunes with an ipod to zune software with a zune i miss itunes... seriously dont knock it till youre forced to use the fucking zune software. They go so far into form over function they completely forget about function. Like i find myself constantly doing things and wondering "who thought of this!?"
