Why spend so much on a case and then not buy 3 fans?
The fans are designed to be installed on the inside, so the power cables can easily run down the back of the motherboard tray. Also, the three fans on top are not required by any means, but if you have a few really hot video cards in the case, they can help to exhaust more hot air.
With an H70, I'd install at least one exhaust fan on top.
do you guys recommend using a fan controller to run all of my case fans thru since there are not enough headers on the mobo? I'm not sure how else to run 5 case fans.
A fan controller is useful, but you can also just get a 3-pin to 4-pin adapter and run the fans directly off the PSU's molex connectors.
Personally I like fan controllers because it gives me the option to turn things down low when I'm checking email or watching a movie or something.
I got the same case just a few days ago. The rest of my parts are comin in today. Went with 2x 5870s, the 1090t, and an H50. I don't have any extra fans but I'll post my results as soon as I get them in. My 2nd 5870 doesn't get in until Monday but I'll post what temps I'm getting when it does.
That would be much appreciated. Could you also PM me when you post, please?
Will do, UPS guy just got here as I was writing this...haven't put a computer together in quite some time though (~10 yrs) so it might take me some time...!
Ok, well I finished quite late last night. Took me about 5.5 hours...yeah I know I'm slow. I used corsair's step by step build here (it was VERY helpful):
http://www.corsair.com/systembuild/report.aspx?report_id=1099104
I have a lot of the same parts...
Case - Corsair 800D
Power Supply - Corsair AX850 850W
Motherboard - Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5
Processor - Phenom x6 1090t
Heatsink - Corsair H50
Memory - Corsair XMS3 8GB (4x 2GB) DDR3 1333mhz
Video cards - 1x ASUS EAH5870
HDD - Western digital caviar black, 1tb 7200rpm
SSD - G.SKILL Phoenix Pro Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II
CDRom - Samsung 24x cdrw / dvdrw
Monitor - Smartbuy zr424w
Mouse - Logitech G9x
Keyboard - Logitech G15
Headset - Creative labs sound blaster arena surround
I had a problem with the case and power supply. The case is obviously very large. The 12v connector cable on the corsair AX850 was not long enough to route behind the motherboard, I had to bring it straight up in front of the motherboard. It kinda gets in the way of the video card and looks a bit messy, but maybe a corsair rep will read this, and be nice enough to send me alonger 12v connector cable so I can route it correctly..!
I kinda did something different with the H50. I mounted the 120mm H50 fan on the inside along with the radiator. Then I took corsair's 140mm fan and mounted it on the outside of the case with some of the "hard drive and motherboard screws" instead of the case fan screws. Like so...
I did this because of the push/pull method posted here in a Corsair blog:

I'm waiting to get some better screws so I don't have to have it messy like this, but it works ok. I was having problems with the video card last night, it kept going black for 15-90 seconds. The screen would come back like nothing happened for 5-10 seconds, then it would go out again. The card I got was a "open box" newegg deal so I'm probably going to have to return it, altho no problems this morning. D/Ling 3dmark now to stress test it.
CPU last night was right around 41C, with case temp about 47C. This was at idle, and I'm getting more benchmark software after work today to push the CPU a little further as well. I'm not sure if this is high or not but it seems to be ok right now. Good luck with your build, I'll post more stats as I get them.
Actually the 800D comes with the extension for the +12V cable, not the PSU, but yeah, it's included so you can run the cable behind the tray if desired.
Works fine either way - it's just for aesthetics.
Your build looks good, and it will probably take me as long to install all the parts too, lol. I appreciate you taking pics of the case and your build. I think the push-pull on the H50 will serve you well.
Are you going to install any fans at the top of the case? I'm pretty sure I am going to install the extra 3x 120mm fans at the top to help with temps. You are getting great temps though. Thanks for the help. Post more if you get more info.
I know the HX850 comes with a extension for the 12v cable, so I'm pretty sure you can get one so you can run it behind your mobo.
