It looks like the images we posted earlier were accurate, Microsoft has launched a shiny new 250GB black Xbox 360 that is a lot smaller than the original. Engadget has dozens of pictures of the new console, I snagged these two images to whet your appetite:

I wonder why people are so obsessed with its size, if anything they should try to get it quite something the new arcades are not good at(my brother has one). Really you are going to be putting the thing in your living room and leaving it there for the next 2-3 years, so why does it have to be smaller other than "wow, look how tiny it is" shit. The only benefit of it being smaller is that it will be better for the Japanese, but its not like they were buying them anyways and I doubt that kinect( need room to play) will encourage that.

its just great news that the wireless adapter is now built in instead of having to pay $99 or so for the external adapter

Not everyone has a lot of space, like myself.

Well this new version could run cooler and be more reliable than previous versions. You should realize it's not just about size.

One more thing I noticed about the pictures is that its going to be a finger print magnet. Just look how shiny that is, it seems the more stupid the target audience the shinier is has to be.;)

Then you don't have a big tv I guess? Its not like its super tiny still, it still larger than a wii by quite a bit. I bet the CD drive is as loud as ever too(also it will stop reading discs in 2 years:rolleyes:).

Meh, too expensive. I got a new arcade console off ebay last summer for $110 when my launch system died. $50 for a 120gb hdd. Not sure how this is worth twice the price especially when at its core, all you're still getting is an Xbox 360 with an ancient Nvidia 7800-ish gpu.

Oh yeah when does this come to stores?! I think Imma need another credit card.

This week.

Power consumption, noise, size, and reliability are all the main reasons to get this. Also if you use the wireless feature- that saves you $80 or so on an adapter.

Yeah, they will never upgrade this stupid thing. Stuck with small maps with muddy textures forever...

Size matters to me as well...right now our 360 is standing to the side of our entertainment stand, beside the sub; at this size, I might be able to incorporate it with our other components on the stand shelving, without having to worry as much about space and heat.

I am betting that you didn't follow the link to Engadget and read everything they have posted so far. Some quotes from the articles:
We booted up Alan Wake and while we were in a relatively loud room, we didn't find the Xbox to be loud at all. We'll have to get it in the labs to see how it stacks up with the original, but Microsoft obviously had noise pollution in its sights here. They worked directly with the drive manufacturer to reduce every source of noise (including air turbulence!), and dub their accomplishment "whisper quiet."

The new box is crazy sexy in glossy black with touch-sensitive buttons, and Microsoft says it's "whisper quiet," with one large fan instead of two -- the new 45nm chipset undoubtedly generates less heat to begin with.

The only time I've even played mine in the last few months is for Deadly Premonition and I can't even remember when it was used before that. PS3 gets a bit more play due to the much better exclusives, but still...these consoles are light years behind PCs and have been largely irrelevant for a long time.

Now you can even build a pc that will spank a console for LESS than the console costs. $50 mobo, $50 budget C2D that will oc to 3.6 easily, $100 for a 1GB 4870...that's what went into my wife's build.

almost jizzed my pants when i saw the glossy finish.too bad i just bit on the $290 msi 470

it doesnt look any smaller to me. nice to see the included the wireless now. also good they kept the tray load drive.

...$50 for HDD, $30 for optical, $100 for 4GB ram (no, you can't game on 2GB anymore), $50 for a quality PSU, $30 for a crap case.

I won't deny that I love PC gaming, and I also won't deny that there is only a small additional cost (roughly $150-200) to upgrade a build from baseline internet machine to gaming-capable. But for casual gamers that already have working computers that they feel are "fast enough," the cost of buying a new computer just to game is hard to justify.

So, your statement should really read:

If you're building or buying a new cheap PC, you can upgrade that build to one that will spank a console for LESS than the cost of a new console.

I want one! I had the Elite when it first came out but quickly sold it for some reason, but with wifi built-in this might seal the deal for me.I'll be curious to see how the reliability is effected with the new design.

When are the designers going to realize that glossy = shitty? Every week I give my laptop a bath because of the gloss finish. Not to mention it shows dust, is a finger print magnet, scaring and everything else that can happen easier.

I have an original Xbox360 (from release) that still works great. My only complaint is the noise (of course). I rarely play games on it though compared to the PS3, but damn if that thing doesn't blow the PS3 out of the water when it comes to Netflix interface.

Original mfg process is 90nm....come a long way since then.....

Some great addictions the the new model xbox!

-SPDIF audio connection on the back on hte console!
-Larger harddrive
-6 USB connections
-Smaller
-Quiter
-Looks imo

Nice redesign, I always thought the 360 looked too much like a Dell computer:

On the other hand they are both Foxconn so I guess it's not that amazing.

If my old one ever dies and I have the spare cash, I may bite.

Most of the arguments on this page are hard to justify. Yes, a computer can outperform a console in terms of graphics very easily, no, the cost in most cases is not justified, and no, the overall gaming experience will not be the same. Things like Xbox Live are what make the difference. If we had some kind of unified gaming network like that on the PC, then you may have something, but otherwise, you're comparing apples to oranges.

[edit]At 2:45 in the video, is that a Displayport above the network connector?

Who the hell cares what size the 360 is going to be!?! WTF size is the damn power brick going to be?
