Just a forewarning to all of you looking to pick of a new macbook pro, if the box has ANY damage on it, demand an inspection before walking out the door with it. This happened to a coworker at my best buy today...

Sorry about the shitty pictures, using my phone at work wasn't very easy hahah

but damn. Thing is literally, bent. Entire macbook pro. Aluminum is VERY stressed at the indent where the screen would normally rest, and as you can see boots perfectly but DAYM. It is quite literally bent, the entire thing.

Holy Christ. Perhaps Apple needs to re-evaluate their packaging.

I'm assuming it came in Apple retail packaging, yeah?

Yep. Direct from apple on a truck this friday just past.

Funny, we had problems with the 27"ers being destroyed in shipping too -_-

it'd wager more on the *throwing* style of the truck loaders and rough un-packing of the truck.

But that sucks hardcore .

No. Not the truck loaders. On a truck, they double boxed from apple, hard cardboard + Foam insert, blackwrapped and are unloaded carefully in our warehouse. This isn't mishandling at a store level.

I didn't see how that would be possible, but then I remembered there's just a thin piece of foam protecting it other than the box.

That's cool, Only reason I said that was Back in the Early 00's I worked at a store and often the guys unloading the trucks were throwing stuff down the rolling skids (often falling off.)

Not to mention breaking out the stuff for each dept. and throwing into shopping carts (to include high end cameras etc..) This was many years ago though and it looks like totes have become the norm for most gear.

Either way pretty shitty deal opening up a new laptop and seeing damage.

Oh i'd totally say the same, but known the store because I work there, all the guys in inventory know not to manhandle shit, cause they'd get fired quick (Cameras everywhere, naturally. And for good reason.)

It's ridiculous how bad apple's shipping practices for retail distribution have gotten. We also had a couple DOA 27" imacs on launch. 2 with shattered screens. (one just had shattered outer glass. )

Apple replaced it, right?
Just wondering if they did the right thing or tried to place the blame on the customer.

If it's any help, my brother has a AluBook (Not a pro) 2.4ghz that he carries around in his backpack with all his books for college. The books put enough pressure on the Macbook that it bent to conform to the shape of his back. I think these things are more fragile than we'd like to believe.

yeah, WE (best buy) replaced it NQA.

Because they worked for bestbuy....

Go to the bestbuy forums, this happens all the time and stores really don't like it hitting their margin.

it only hits their margin because of how they choose to do their accounting. at the end of the day, apple reinburses them with a new macbook and it doesnt end up costing best buy a dime.

but its a good incentive to get the former cashiers with high school educations that they have running their stores to "crack the whip".

shipping problems happen with any company, i dont see how thats news. also by law, they HAVE to make it right in this country. you cant sell someone broken stuff, unless you specifically say up front, its broken. this isnt khazikstan. im glad you got it taken care of.

but it drives me insane when i hear about how retail managers behave and create a culture of "screw the customer" in their stores to "drive the numbers".

at the end of the day, it doesnt hit their margin at all. saying otherwise is flat out lying on managements part and its that mentality that makes them a favorite punching bag for the consumerist.

Just wondering, was it delivered by UPS? Back when I worked there as a loader, there was a special truck just for Best Buy... Trust me, if that's the case, these trucks are not loaded with care whatsoever.

Just saying on the other end of the spectrum, I've got a 15.4" pro that I carry on my back to and from school every day since I got it that I've had class, that is in perfect condition.

It sounds like UPS in involved here somewhere, i recently got a package with a boot print on both sides I asked the driver WTF hey just said it happens and walked away product was ok but box looked like it'd been though a war. Maybe it got hit by the forklift

Yeah no. We write it in as concealed damage from shipping, we get a full reimbursement and a happy customer. Some of us aren't assholes ;) Nice try though.

Yeah, we back the customer in all these situations... All we get is positive PR and buzz, and a negative rev hit for a week until they fix it back end... We can take it. We're the number one store for a reason *cough cough* Our customers like us.

Nope, No UPS shipments here. Localized per store. Mom's friend actually manages a DC for the best buy's in my area. It's pretty tightly run according to him.

This shipment was seperate and right from apple. I don't know who they used, but it isn't our normal company.

We're the number one store for a reason *cough cough* There are no alternative electronic-specific brick and mortars in most locations.

FIXED!

In all serious, most best buy employees are nice people that try their best to help you. Retail sucks and I empathize with the guys in blue. Although my favorite story was when a girl there told me I should get the Sharp LCD over the Toshiba because the "S [sharp, sony, samsung] brands are most popular."

They actually don't use forklifts in their hubs, unless they do Freight trucks. It's a common occurrence for people to step on the packages. Management cares, but the employees don't, sadly.

Not sure what scorecard you were reading when you worked there....
