TigerDirect has the Galaxy GTX 480 for $520 - $64 Bing Cashback

just wondering, how many GTX 480 does tigerdirect have? feels like they somehow have way more than Newegg.....

How many GTX 480s need to be running at the same time to kick start global warming?

Well at least you guys are putting money back into the economy. Can't say it's much of a value proposition though.

The value is huge, I hope to finally be able to run at 25x16 slowdown free. I have been trying to get enough power for that for a while (I tried GTX285 Tri-SLI and was not happy and this single 5870 is not doing it for me either(almost though)).

:)

I'm not sure we can legally put "AR-15" guaranteed on the packaging.... :)

As far as being around in the future, we have been making cards with NVIDIA chipsets for more than a decade and we intend to keep doing so.

With so many bad reviews of customer service, what commitment is there beyond going through "Kyle Bennett" for people to see service? Like great, you'll respond if Mr. Bennett hollers, but what about the rest of the world.. or is this place the limits?

too bad they don't have these for msrp and cb. i will wait for evga, new revision, or hydro version before i buy i think.

lifetime warranty also helps for resale over 2 yr in most cases, but someone will always buy no matter what

If nvidia is making all the cards now then what does it matter which company's logo is slapped on it...they'll all be just as reliable as the next. The only thing that matters is that it has a warranty if it's faulty and 2 years is longer than I'll keep the card anyway. If someone from a company will reach out to the community via forums that gives them extra credit in my book.

I had an evga card completely die on me after 4 months and they wouldn't even let me pay to have it repaired since I bought it off eBay (brand new, sealed in box). They just told me I'm out of luck and there's nothing they could do.

On another note, I didn't buy into the hype I've just always wanted triple monitor gaming in 3D :).

This is for our readers, the rest of them can ask Anand and Tom. ;)

in galaxy's defense, I sent my emails to the first support address I saw on the site which was the one listed for the headquarters, scrolling further down the page there is the region specific address which I apparently should have been using.

I had a response from support within an hour or so of posting here and the case has been moved to the RMA department to get a replacement underway

Am I the only one that sees this:?

I dont see any Louis Vuitton bags on their website...?

Ok Kyle, with your words I'll now buy Galaxy with confidence! In for 2!

EDIT: On second thought... "Limited warranty 24 months for parts and 24 months for labor. " hmmm... maybe wait for EVGA =(

A two year warranty is solid. For most, I can't really see having a card for that long before upgrading. I wouldn't let it deter anyone. I will give Galaxy a shot in the near future now.

I just bought the galaxy gtx 480 based on Kyle's support.

Seems like a lot of people, including me, are going to be owners of Galaxy 480's really soon. I think if there's not much of an opinion right now on [H] from readers about Galaxy, it will form very quickly in the coming days/weeks/month.

You've actually read the reviews on H right?

No, no it isn't but to each his own.

Thanks for helping the economy to recover.

I'm glad to see someone is willing to go to bat if needed, but what makes them more responsive ? Perhaps having someone with a very large discussion forum kind of 'backing' the company so-to-speak?

In the end if he can help get things worked out when they go sour (hopefully not very often), that's great. I would consider buying from them, just upstate from me and since they are all reference at this point except for the SC evga's it's all good.

Just a note - I'm in the market for a 480, but a 2 year warranty is about two years too short. My 9800gx2's have had about a three year run and will be headed into some of my secondary rigs for the remainder of their relevant lifespan.

Good to see a vendor rep out here, however.

I was kidding about the value part :)

Ya when you have a DINK household you can buy crazy stuff. I will say selling our old hardware before the new cards came out worked out well. The sale of three 285s covered almost 80% of the purchase (craigslist). My wife straight out sold her 295 for $400 which got her a 5870, so she is happy too.

bottom line:
I am excited as it should be great for 25x16 and give me what I always wanted since I went 30" a year ago.

EVGA GTX480s (Lifetime warranty when registered within 30 days) now in stock at tiger, ~65$ Bing Cashback.

At the risk of sounding like a fanboi...

Just get a 5870, It's a better value, doesn't have the heat or power demands and gives you equivalent performance.

Remember this is from someone with 2 285's in SLI saying this. To say I'm disappointed in Nvidia's latest offering is an understatement.

I have a 5870 right now (as an interim step) and it is nice, but I want MORE POWER! (I had GTX285 TRI SLI before that) I don't care about heat or noise. If it gets too bad I will water cool.

Yeah ok, like I said, thanks for helping the economy recover.

I just wish I had that kind of money to waste.

You're just coming off badly now. The GTX480 is the flat out better card for features and performance. On average it's already 15% faster on launch drivers, scales better in sli, more memory so less likely to bottleneck, and allows for things like physx, much better tessellation performance, and extra settings/effects in games like Just Cause 2. Minimum framerates are much better. A 5870 six months ago was a better buy than a GTX 480 now which is the source of much disappointment because people were hoping for a card that was six months of waiting better. But that disappointment doesn't change the fact that as of now, Nvidia has the best card.

True that but ~15% speed for roughly 50% more power consumption and heat is not a very good tradeoff. Besides, it's such an obvious stop-gap measure before a full-featured Fermi will be made, so it's actually a little disappointing.

15% is very arguable, more like 10%..... and based on [H] review, it doesn't seems to be anywhere near "feature". I can say 5870 have better feature with Eyefinity, but that is depend on each person who actually uses it.. like physX.. I rather turn them off for better FPS..

indeed that it does have better tessellation, the only game so far that we sees that is Metro 2033, its also another TWIMTBP game...

scale better in SLI only when 1GB Vram apply on 5870, but 5870 2GB would be another story... we already see that with BC2 and AVP in [H] review...

nVidia doesn't have the best card, its only the fastest GPU, nowhere near the best for either one of them...

and it have the high consequences for been fastest GPU.. and we already sees that..its a trade off..

each have their own goods, none of them are the best.

Well, I see from your sig that you own two of them so I can't help but think there may be a slight bias since you've invested the better part of a grand in them.

I'd be defending them too if I bought two cards that cost as much as my mortgage payment.

The trolls are out in force. Even the reviews of the Galaxy card on TigerDirect couldn't avoid them.

How does a thread about the Galaxy 480 being in stock at Tiger Direct suddenly turn into a thread about persuading GTX 480 buyers that HD 5870 is the better bang for the buck.

Probably my fault.

Hey guys, let's not call people trolls we are just having a discussion.

Today, I will post pics of the unbox as soon as they get here. Pretty awesome they worked late to get them to me today even though I ordered around 2:15 PST and they are EST. I called them around 2:45 and got through right away to a real person. They expidited my process and got it shipped that night.

like always this thread turns in to NV Vs. ATi, Like I have said before, if a person doesn't care about power or heat, let them enjoy their card. They are not stabbing you in heart in anyway. I have 5870 and yes the gtx 480 is better overall other than power and heat. Like I said before if gtx 480 makes you feel better go for, shit I would buy it myself if I could snatch one for a good price. It is not like I am up gaming 24/7 and wasting power. I bearly get to game but I do like to game with every setting maxed out.

I'll have mine Friday according to UPS tracking...went with the free shipping.

Anyone have the sale post to their Bing account yet? I've never used Bing before, I just hope I did it right. I did read that it may take a few days to show up though.

Meh, if I don't like them I'll put them on ebay. I already have the best ATI has to offer (5970+5870) so it would be stupid to buy the 480s unless they were legitimately better. I think they will correct a lot of the annoyances and bottlenecks ATI's cards have.

I just did a search for GTX 480 at TD and got "0 Results".

Figures. lol

I think I will just wait a few weeks until things calm down.

it's a wonder they had it up for as long as they did. Galaxy prolly dumped a crapload of 480s through them.
