Har Har har.

No. They have some fancy noise cancelling and a bit of a built in amplifier, but the sound quality isn't nearly as stunning as the price tag. And going from hx700's, i doubt really better.

I have a pair of Beats Studios..They are fantastic sounding headphones with a good sound to them. The thing about the Beats is that they require no EQ, they are not the flat sounding headphones like the others. Also they look great but feel cheaply made or flimsy. Sounds fantastic though! best headphone I heard so far...

They're supposed to be decent, but overpriced. You can get better headphones for the money.

beats by dre? lol
can i interest you in some monster cables to go with them perhaps?

Don't bother asking head-fi, they'll get snobbish if you bring this up. I demo'ed them at bestbuy when they first came out. You can definitely get better sound quality for the price. The highs were much too sharp; the bass was deep, impactful, but sloppy. Comfort was great. If you need active noise cancelling, they're a decent option if you can get them for half their MSRP.

ROFLS if you have actually read some of the threads on head-fi regarding Dr Dre beats you'll see similar comments to your experience.

anyone else get a kick out of the fact that the "studio" version doesn't need EQ because it isn't flat sounding?

Enough rich white kids bought bose that monster realized it could capitalize on the rich kid that wants to look "urban". Hence, beats by dr. dre. Stay away. go sennheiser or beyer

The headphones are overpriced crap. They probably actually do sound better than most of the other stuff in the stores that they are sold in but that isn't saying much...

If you want a good bass-heavy pair of headphones get a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770-Pro's You can get them for $150 or less usually and they are better than the beats in every respect, other than bling maybe.

I wrote in a few of them. I was a veteran member there. It's gone downhill quite a bit.

Overpriced, pay for the name, marketed for c***s, get a real pair of headphones.

you mean the quality of the entire forum? or the quality of their critique on these particular headphones...

I don't want to veer this topic off into just forum bashing. So, I'll just keep it brief. It's veered off way too much in FOTM hype. Once even a mildy decent new model comes on the scene. A couple members would write a couple orgasmic reviews, then there'd be a huge stampede to buy that model and just about EVERYBODY raves how it's the next best thing. Then a few months later, the hype starts dying down, the flaws start becoming a bit more apparent and just about EVERYBODY calls it overhyped and a piece of trash. They all go into the F/S forum and then latch onto the next FOTM. There's a ton of bias and people who pump the models they own over gear they never tried. As quality audio equipment gets cheaper to buy, you get a lot of knuckleheads with the larger audience it attracts. Discussions have thus moved more towards the "budget" end of the spectrum and higher-end models are not seriously discussed as much anymore.

In regards to the beats, they'll brush it off as mass-market consumer trash with a celeb's name on it. They own Sennheiser, or Beyerdynamic or AKG, so that makes them automatically superior.

these are the type of kids roaming around head-fi, good luck using them as a source because everybody is extremely bias towards their own gear. Strapping speakers on ur head and calling them the best headphones with the best imaging HAHAHAH!!

your best bet is to hear everything for yourself as I went through a Sennheiser 580, 595, Denon D1001, and Beyer DT770 Pro 80ohm before finally settling on the Monster Beats Studios to keep my upgrade itch away.

You realise that was an april fools day joke? That being said, yeah, Head-fi people are geeky as all hell, but you'll usually get accurate responses there.

Huh? Who the hell posts April Fools jokes on the 5th?

I think the only real joke is on the consumer that shells out $200 for a $10 pair of headphones. Don't get me started about the guys "music".

Ok guys i went to go check the headphones out.
compared to my hx700
1)Very comfortable doesnt grip my head as tight(not like the hx700 is uncomfortable but this is more comfortable).
2)The bass is very good not sure if its hooked up to an amp or not but i hear more boom.
3)35 bucks compared to 180 so yea big price difference
4) The noise reduction is a little better not sure how. it cuffs your ear i guess.

Im tempted unless someone can find me a similar sized headphones. My jvc is just a tad big when using it around campus.

Re: Beats, lots and lots of bass. If you like a balanced sound then you won't like them.

In any case, you should listen to them yourself with music that you are very familiar with and see what you think. Compare them with others if they are available. The same piece of music can sound completely different from headset to headset. Its almost like the mix is totally different.

Personal taste figures into things bigtime. You may hate what I would like and vice versa. Grado headsets are very highly regarded but I personally find them way too bright. Not my thing but I can see how others would like them.

What's with all the head-fi hate? I've been a member there for years. It's a great site/community and it's a great resource for research cause there's so much information to uncover.

There's bad seeds in every community I wouldn't base your opinions of just a couple of posters who make up a fraction of the community.

A friend of mine had them and I gave them a listen. I found them to have extremely exaggerated bass. So much so that they seemed muddy to me. I agree with others, they might be worth a listen if that's what you're in to but there are much better cans for the same or less money.

Re: Beats, lots and lots of bass. If you like a balanced sound then you won't like them.

Its amazing how authoritatively people can judge headphones based on their branding without ever actually hearing them.

If you actually ever listened to a pair of beats, you would know that they most certainly DON'T have "lots and lots of bass." The best thing you can say about the bass is that it's "there." As in, it goes down to 40hz. This might sound like "lots and lots of bass" to someone who thinks "flat" means an f3 of 80hz, but in reality, its just called "present low end."

The beats actually have highly a emphasized midrange. Their frequency response curve actually would look a bit like that of that of human perception, but with more bass rolloff.

I got a pair of beats mainly because I wanted a pair of noise canceling headphones for airplane flights, and I wanted a pair of headphones with a booming low end. I was really disappointed when by what I heard from the beats in terms of bass. I expected (and wanted) in-your-face head shaking bass, but all I got from the beats was some pretty nice imaging and standard mid-fi bass. (woah the bass is actually there!)

What's with all the head-fi hate?

People who paid too much for bad headphones based on marketing can get away with claiming how "good" they are on a computer forum where many are not knowledgeable about the subject. If they tried the same on Head-Fi they would get shot down; likely makes them bitter about the place.

Beats are halfway decent cans with the bass cranked up to 10, and price floated accordingly.

I don't think they're terrible, but you can do better for the money.

If you're looking for something more portable, the HD25-1 demolishes the Beats, and is cheaper.
