When is the 5890 2GB coming?

Could it be a sleeper release for April 12th? Now that would really rain on Nvidia's parade! How bout it, anybody know, or is there an NDA?

Perhaps like with the 4870 upgrade to 4890, ATI can beef up the supporting stuff to make things faster. Voltage regulators, VRMs, Better Phase inductors etc.
For the 5890, I'd like to see memory voltage regulation in addition to core voltage regulation. And a beefier and quieter stock cooler.
Oh and hey, how about the option to run 3x DVI on the 5890 without an active adapter??
I know you have to slap on another clock generator or some such, but how much would that add to costs?

As far as I can tell AMD is just putting out a 2 gig 6 head version of the 5870 and some AIBs are putting out 4gig 5970s with maybe a clock boost. Anything else, is either non existent, or they have been tight lipped about it.

There are 2Gb 5850s as well though I'm not sure if they're official. Newegg has the 5850 2Gb Toxic out now.

Damn being broke stinks.

the 4GB 5970's are going to be AIB non reference design cards i believe along with the 5850 2GB.. only 2GB card i know of directly from AMD is the 5870 2GB.. now the question is will they release a 6 head 5970 4GB.. if they did that would be one bad ass card..

there won't be any 5890 amd is preparing hybrid arch and according to some sources it already taped out

Any details?
Southern Islands (SI) is a 40nm family, and from early information, it looks to be a hybrid between Evergreen and Northern Islands. The architectural details are quite slim now, but it looks like ATI took the uncore from NI and put the shaders from Evergreen on it. Think of it as taking the parts that were done and available, and putting them together.

In any case, ATI will likely have a fully refreshed lineup before Nvidia has its Fermi GF100 GTX4xx line fully out the door. It looks like this fall's GPU battle will be more of a howitzer versus pen knife match rather than a duel.S|A

@Chiphell,Rv9xx series was taped out at TSMC 40nm node recently.Tessellation is enhanced,3D blueray hardware-decode is added. No big improvement in 3DMark Vantage.

Yeah, kinda disappointing that ATI has nothing new 6 months after the RV870 launch. I would have really expected ATI to be more aggressive and try to sucker punch Nvidia with some newly retweaked GPU as Nvidia is fumbling around with a Fermi launch.

Seems like we'll have wait a few more months. But at least it sounds like it'll be more than a slightly retweaked RV870. So maybe it's a good thing.

There is also a Sapphire Toxic 2GB 5870 in the works..........

From what is already out in the news:
5870 2GB E6 model was released yesterday.
Sapphire has the 5850 Toxic released.
ASUS has a 5870 2GB "ROG" model planned.
XFX is going to release a 5970 XXX 4GB model.

ATI is still having that same issues as Nvidia with TSMC, its just that there architecture deals with it better. I would imagine that they are working there asses off to make the best use of the 40nm tech for the time being and the newer stuff being shifted towards global foundries

Wow just saw this thing - ASUS MATRIX ROG 5870 2GB.

It looks awesome! And with the enhanced voltage regulation and souped up cooling, it might just be equivalent to what a theoretical 5890 would have been!

If this turns out to be significantly faster than other 5870s, I might get two and sell the 5970! :D

Here are some more tasty pics at Tom's.

From the naked card's backside, I count 5 heatpipes on that nonreference cooler!

I think it looks awesome too but they'll only make a couple thousand probably and they'll cost silly money...

That ASUS looks awesome. If its in the $500 range it wouldn't be too bad.

If it was only silly money, I'd get two but they will want real cash. :p

the 2gb have NOT proven to do much yet. even [H] preview suggest the same. we need to look at clock speeds or some other improvement before you get excited.

Here's hoping a review is on the way for these cards. Likely a 1GB model should be ok for me as these cards are running GDDR5 memory, but as a card playing games for at least 3 years 2GB may make the difference down the road. At least it will for me; cant be blowing crazy money for new cards every year.

And most of the reviews did not try hard enough to make use of the 2GB. When you start adding texture packs and other mods to games, 1GB vram is history in no time.
