So i've got my new rig setup not long ago , running 5970 on i7 920. Im using Asus MW221u display for 3 years and i like it. However im ready to go for eyefinity setup. I'm looking for displays with portrait mode capability, so far the Dell 2209WA x3 seems like the best option for me(however i think i need one of those dvi to displayport adapter). However before i decide to buy them , i'd like to know if my current monitor is better than the Dell 2209WA (does dell monitor tends to have alot of backlight bleeding?).As far as im concerned, i would be gaming with the monitor(is there any noticable difference between 2ms and 5ms?)so i dont need specs that would be great for watching movies on the monitor. Also,it would be best that the monitor be 21" to 24" , preferbly 21" to 22".

Are there any other monitors that you could recommend for this setup?

Oh also, does running 3 monitors means that it will be drawing more power from my psu ? Im using a seasonic 750w PSU atm.

For portait mode, you need IPS panels. TN panels are bad for portrait mode due to the poor vertical viewing angles.

And for Eyefinity you are better off with a monitor with native displayport inputs because the adapters are really a band-aid and nothing but trouble for tons of people...

The dell 2209WA uses e-IPS, do you know of any monitors that have the simple black thin bezel like the dell 2209WA with native displayport inputs? Oh and does it make alot of difference between 2ms and 5ms for gaming, because i play alot of fps/ fast paced action games, im afraid i might not be able to get used to monitor that aint 2ms. Worse come to worse i'll just set up a 3x1 landscape mode.

30" are too much for gaming , or perhaps its just me... 30" x3 is just too much

So can anyone answer my question please ? Is the dell 2209WA or my current Asus MW221U better as a single screen itself.I do not want to buy 3 screens and then end up with not liking them.

Would this setup be able to work ? 2209WA x3 , so 2 will be connected through DVI and the last one i will be using the Dell displayport to Dual Link DVI adapter into the displayport of my 5970.

The 2209WA is a nice monitor. However, it's resolution is rather low for a modern monitor (1680x1050). That's why I went with the NEC 23 inch ips monitor instead (1920x1080). However the cost goes up by about $100 vs the 2209WA.

There should be no problem with using 2x 2209WA via DVI and 1x 2209WA via displayport to DVI adapter. But make sure it is one of the active adapters on ATI's approved list.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd get 3 3008WFPs.

Which would require insane horsepower to run well. A 5970 could barely handle it unless you drop the overall resolution .. still I'm sure it would be fun to see.

The 2209WA is a great option due to its lower cost , ips panel , vertical viewing angles. The lower resolution is what you to deal with in turn , otherwise U2410 makes a great eyefinity setup. Depends on your budge really , you've got the horsepower.

To be honest , i've been using my MW221u for 3 years + , i'm pretty used to the resolution of 1680 x 1050. I do not really know how it actually feels like with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, but for me , im pretty satisfied with how 1680 x1050 looks. So from the feedback it seems the 2209WA is the better option. I'll be going ahead and make the order, as for the display adapter which one should i get? Whats the difference between a displayport to DVI Dual link adapter and a non dual link adapter? Is it that the dual link one is active and the non dual link one is passive? I also hear alot of problems with monitors not being able to get up from sleeping mode and what not, having to restart the computer to fix it , does that happen to the 5970 ?

Thanks godmachine, howiever i stay in Asia and currently they only ship within the U.S . Do you know of any website that sells the adapter worldwide besides from EBAY?

Tom, I'd get the displayport adapter from Dell at the same time as the monitors. Talk to a sales rep live and they should be able to cut you a good deal since you are getting three monitors and an adapter.

yeap jvc, thats what i'd be doing , but as for the adapter i dont think they sell it here in Singapore Dell, at least i dont see it in the website. Do you know of any website that sells the adapter and ships to asia? I tried Newegg / Amazon but had no luck.

I just made my order and got them for 240 USD each. Now i need to look for an online shop that sells the Displayport to dual link dvi adapter and ships to asia.

That's what I thought, but actually, in terms of BC2 performance, driving 3x30" using a single overclocked 5870 and an i7 is decent for 40-45fps performance.
