So I have one 30" dell and a 20" just as a secondary. I just attached the 2nd monitor...and it basically cut my FPS in half in l4d...I was getting over 200 fps with 2 5850s in crossfire with max settings at 2560 x 1600...now I'm getting 90-100fps after connecting the second monitor. Any ideas on what I can do to rectify this?

Open up two copies of GPUZ or another program on your 2nd monitor and see if it is still using both GPUs. You also might have some success turning off Aero when you run the program (you can do it via compatibility tab of the shortcut) since you don't want your GPU having to accelerate anything on that 2nd monitor.

yep...checked it out...2nd GPU is not being used...I thought dual monitor setups don't break crossfire?

Are you disabling Aero when you run your games? If it is trying to use your GPU to hardware accelerate items on the 2nd screen that could be why. You can just select "Disable desktop composition" in the compatibility tab of the game shortcut.

Also attempt to verify that you are not running in any sort of windowed mode. Some games even allow you to run in windowed mode maximized which many assume to be fullscreen but it is not. Crossfire will not work if your game is in windowed mode!

Not to insult your intelligence, but you did hook both monitors up to the same card, right?

thanks for the help...I disabled desktop composition and it did not make a difference. In fact the FPS went down to the 70s...Game is not running in window mode...it is full screen.
Interestingly enough...when I press identify GPU under the configure crossfire tab...it places a 1 on the dell 2007wfp and a 2 on the 3007wfp and there is a drop down menu saying 2) Dell 3007WFPHC and 1) 2007WFP...not sure what it means...but it's making me think it's having each gpu handle a separate screen...weird because i have crossfirex enabled

lol, yes

sorry for double post...but I restarted and checked it again...both GPUs are being used now...but the FPS is still more than cut in half...the 2nd screen is really hampering performance
