OK what's the deal with ATI Catalyst drivers where you uninstall it, reboot, then reinstall the driver and it keeps all your previous settings? Like customized resolutions, overclock settings, etc.?

What I'm trying to do is reinstall 9.12 catalyst drivers as if I was starting from scratch, as if an ATI product has never been installed on my PC. This is on Win7 64bit, I've already tried to "restore all defaults" under preferences and it doesn't work! Well at least not all, like my custom resolutions. I've also tried uninstalling the drivers, then using CCleaner and even manually making sure it doesn't keep an ATI folder under both program file directories. But every time my custom resolution settings are still there. Where is it storing these and why doesn't ATI offer a TRUE COMPLETE UNINSTALL for christ sakes.

This is just sloppy shit. I shouldn't have to resort to some sort of 3rd party app to clean these settings ATI, it should be built in to your uninstaller as an option (ie, ask the user if they'd like to keep profile settings etc). My next attempt will be for me to dig around in hidden directories in User or even search my registry for it these settings. This is seriously fustrating. If anyone knows where these settings are so i can blow them away, please help.

Just tried drive sweeper and it did find several ATI related files and deleted them but it made no difference. My previous settings are still there! WTF?

Hotel California... you can check out but you can never leave. :p

It's starting to look that way isn't it? lol.

I mean being a long time Nvidia user, this only adds to the hated saying that ati drivers are CRAP and I'm trying to not go there but...

At least I haven't experienced any driver crashes yet... knock on cheap ass ikea faux wood

The profiles and settings can be found under C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE

Note that Appdata is a hidden folder, so you need to have activated "show hidden files and folders". If you don't know where you do this, let me know. :)

Edit: Here you go, just in case:

I found that and nuked that directory and my old settings still came back upon reinstall. :(

Also when I tried Drive sweeper also found other directories where ATI left stuff and deleted it but it didn't work either. Maybe it's in the registry? If so, I'm amazed CCleaner doesn't catch it.

Someone has to have encountered this.

Is there an actual problem that is being caused by these leftover settings or are you just being OCD over random stuff? Extra resolutions shouldn't cause a problem unless you select and try to use those resolutions and same with saved overclocking settings.

Yah. I use an HDTV and there are resolution bugs related to DX10 games and HDTVs. I was playing around alot trying to find a hack-fix to make it work (like what's easily done with Nvidia) and somewhere down the line I messed up 1920x1080 @ 60hz, now crysis "underscans" the image no matter what I do. Also one of my custom resolutions that I created 1920x1076 is not delete'able as it should be. I was playing around with it so much, it's probably just a bug so I wanted to clear my plate and start from scratch again. But every time I uninstall it, and make an effort to delete all ATI related files from my PC, reinstall the drivers and sure enough, it remembers all my previous configurations. Like me setting my desktop to not underscan, my overclock settings, my custom resolutions, everything.

This really shouldn't be this hard. This is like the most basic of basic functionality of nearly any app or driver you install in windows for years: Uninstall a driverset completely, including user-made settings. I can't believe ATI doesn't have a GUI option to do this in their uninstall.

You might check out Powerstrip. I had to set a fairly oddball resolution for my old 1080i TV, had to run at 1770x1000 interlaced at 30Hz or something like that, and powerstrip worked quite well for that.

Ok thanks, I'll give that a try tonight. Although it still be nice to be able to start from scratch with my ATI drivers - short of reinstalling Win7 lol.

So no others have any suggestions as to where these settings are being stored? I guess I should be blowing up the amd forums...

Have you looked over @ Rade3D?

I'll check it out, thanks :)

Oh and after screwing around with powerstrip, trying to figure out why this is such a useless app. I come to find out it's because the "advanced timing" button is greyed out for me - which is basically where all the magic happens. According to the many google hits I rummaged through, this not totally uncommon and happens for various reasons. However once I found this particular link here, I had to laugh out loud...

From the makers of power strip themselves, "HD5xxx not support".

pwned.

Ati haters? Sheesh.

Edit: nope not ati haters, just ATI is being all secretive about their product which is what is preventing powerstrip from allowing it to do what it does: http://forums.entechtaiwan.com/index.php?topic=7103.0
