Still room to OC for higher FPS.

First up Dirt2 ,now this bench I have no clue if its DX9 or DX11 its all over the place on FPS.1920x1200 ultra setting 8xMSAA

Did you turn off all AF and set all of your other driver settings to the minimums?
 
I did not even look but I would say yes.Default CCC setings.I just tossed in card using beta driver and thats what I got.So 0AA 0AF Still faster then my 3x285 same settings so its all cool.

try with 9.12 ati driver and post the result!
 
I thought all crossfire cards were limited to the speeds of the slowest one...is there a reason you have them clocked to different speeds?

5970 is clocked at 5850 speeds.

EDIT i didnt see his screen shot. that is wierd.
 
this is right up there with something I've been wondering. Are there any real drawbacks from X-Firing a 5970 with a 5850 in place of a 5870?

BTW, 980 core on a 5970 WOW! WC or Stock Air?
 
Yes stock air and this card can go higher.5970
5850 just put it in,updated bios and did not touch it,as far as I can tell you can clock each card different which I wiill do when ATI releases the 9.12 driver.

It scales back to the slower GPU which means not all the stream processors on the 5970 will be taken advantage of. So it'll use 1440 per GPU instead of 1600. I doubt this will make much of a difference in FPS though.

Does it just scale architecture-wise with the stream processors, or will it also scale down to the slowest clock frequency?
 
Yes try the new 9.12's when you get them I'm seeing some impressive gains being reported on other forums in Crysis and every other game like 15-20fps.

1fps gain in crysis for me, but they fixed some serious problems I had with Dirt 2, which was running at like 45fps on 5970+5870.
 
Try DX9 and check the results

visuals are exactly the same save for a visual bug with object motion blur in DX9, performance may go up with no quality loss.

Well actually these 9.12 are horrible with AA applied in Crysis/WH.Waiting on fermi.
Heres a quick list of cards I bought just to play Crysis.
7900GTX 3 got ripped off for 555 bucks on ebay SLI 2,countless RMA'S
8800GT 3 of them one died SLI
280 2 of them-do not remember them at all SLi
9800GTX+ 7 put in a few coms,most favorite Video card for Crysis,TRISli
275GTX 3 of them ,hated them could not do more then 4x at 1920x1080 had two hrs testing sold for a loss big time.TRISLI
285GTX 3 good cards TRiSLi
4890 3 good cards TRIfIRE AA sucks in crysis
5970 2 only have one
5870 2 have none
5850 1 for trifire with 5970
Soon to be 3xfermi and Crysis better work

Off course thats not counting CPU,RAM,motherboards just to play Crysis.
So really its way more then a thousand and I still cant play Crysis the way I want.
 
You're unhappy that you are only getting ~76 fps with 8xAA in Crysis? O I C

And anyway, the 9.12 drivers come out tomorrow, the leaked ones out now may not be the right ones.

Actually say if you were to Xfire a 5850 and a 5870, the performance would be similar to Xfiring a pair of 5850s, it will still work.

Given that the 5970 is built on 2 5870 chips, but running slower than a single 5870 GPU, Xfiring with a 5850 is not too far fetched.

Screwy as it is, I have an Asus 5850 and an XFX 5850 and I'm running both at stock, (power consumption reasons and no need for more performance yet) and I tried setting both cards at different frequencies, which also works in Xfire. What's weird is I see higher FPS counts with Vsync off, but it actually looks like the FPS are lower because of the microstutter jerkyness. This effect is more profound when the cards are at running at different frequencies. With Vsync on, everything is perfectly smooth, and I do get very good scaling vs. a single GPU.

Really what has getting a life got to do with anything.Is that supposed to be an insult.
I also like TV'S and I buy way to many bigscreens everyyear.I need the nut house I guess because someone on the net does not approve of what someone does with his spare change.
You need a life to enjoy what ya can buy.

No eye thing for me and never will be,unless I string some bigscreens together.See I built a desk in the wall in my baasement,only made room for upto 28inch,plus i have a 52 inch 1080p hooked to com.
 
Nice that you got such high averages with AA as well! Man I wish I had the money for a new PC!!! I

It will also scale down to the slowest clock frequency. The only difference if you used a 5870 with a 5970 in tri fire is that those extra steam processors would be used.

But crysis warhead is less demanding than crysis and doesnt look as good when maxed out. next.
 
I still play and love QuakeWorld with what few players there are left online but jesus christ, Crysis anything. Do you seriously play it like it was the best thing since sliced bread, or did you just want to break the 100 avg 60 min barrier?

Hmmm Has anyone ever considered the fact that Crysis just might be coded shitty? god forbid we consider that option..
 
coded shittily, no, i don't think so.

crysis still is miles ahead of most titles in terms of tech and crytek seems to have no restraint at all when it comes to detail. crysis does a lot at runtime that many other titles take shortcuts to do.


will cryengine 3 be better optimized? probably, but this is something one should expect with a new engine iteration. optimization isn't all about the code, the art work comes into play as well, such as making compromises intelligently as to what you'll be able to get away with.

i ran crysis on highest settings and got higher fps than i do in world of warcraft, in dalaran.
is wow coded like shit? (read: maybe, dated as hell engine doing what its not designed for more likely)
 
sweet results... that's one helluva shopping list just to play Crysis. Played it through with my 8800GTS (G92) and I never looked back. I might do it again... maybe.

LOL I have a buddy who plays quake hes 47,sounds just like you.
Really though since nov 2007 Crysis release,I have played the game everyday since then,you stop playing quake ,I will stop playing Crysis(no cheating now).
 
So you said you had 3 GTX 285's and was not satisfied with the performance? As much as I hate to play Crysis or any game for that matter with no AF and No AA heres 2 GTX 285's (not overclocked btw) running crysis warhead at 1920x1080 no aa and no af:

Not sure an extra 15 fps avg at 8xAA is worth the price of 5970+5850 trifire...
 
Crysis runs better on Nvidia cards. So touting your SLI rigs all day isn't really impressive either. We probably won't see a next great benchmark until Frostbite Engine.

Would also love to see side by side at 2560 x 1600 resolution.

wasnt "touting" my sli rig. more questioning the OP's decision in upgrading video cards for one game when he could run it on 2 GTX 280's. Heres his list again:

He could have saved himself the hassle of buying 13 video cards just to get 15 fps more...
 
At 1920 huge waste of course. Maybe he can run it higher and post results.
