using M-Audio monitors as pc speakers without a DAC

I have a pair of M-Audio Studiophile BX5a monitors collecting dust and just thought about buying this adapter cable --> http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t..._shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3CLJYQ8X1E8Z4&v=glance
and using them as PC speakers, Would the quality suffer using the cable or would it sound ok still?

The cable itself won't cause the quality to suffer, but obviously the onboard sound is probably not going to be as good as if you had a dedicated DAC. Certainly should be usable though, modern onboard sound isn't nearly as awful as it used to be, as long as you're not on a laptop.

yeah it'll work fine, and you do have a dedicated DAC, its built into the system

unless you've got noise bleed issues, or you get a dud cable (or the speakers themselves are damaged), should work just fine end to end
