Dear Valve: I hate you. -Sincerely, My Wallet

Did they remove the SecuROM BS from the Steam version of Dead Space? It's one of the games I've been boycotting this whole time because of SecuROM, but if they finally wisened up, I think I'll buy it.

Majesty 2 for $10 - ugh, that breaks my heart. I just bought this game six weeks ago, brand spanking new, for $49.99.

Guys, if you take it for what it is, and don't go in expecting something that's stunningly deep, then Majesty 2 is worth ten dollars. It's a charming game that's a tremendous amount of fun - the trick is to stay away from the net and not read about the game, because once you figure it out then it's kind of game over. But figuring out how it works provided me with hours of fun and fascination. Watching my base get destroyed by 2 ogres and a huge grizzly bear was a pleasure. It took me four attempts before I was finally able to defeat the bears!

I highly recommend this game for this price. I fear that some people will miss this one because it wasn't reviewed well. You just have to take it for what it is. It's kind of a quirky game, but the word 'charming' just pops into my head when I think of this title.

I believe Resident Evil 5 will be 50% off at some point. They already have the same sale on Impulse and D2D, so I imagine the folks at Steam will follow suit :)

I believe so too, although I just bought my copy of D2D, which I actually prefer.

I use both, just curious why your preference is D2D? (first time I've seen anyone prefer D2D, so curious...)

I'm not knocking either... I now own dozens of games from D2D, but have yet to d/l and install any of them...

With D2D there's no third party software, which I like. I'll admit that it's a pretty silly reason, but it just seems less obtrusive to me. You download the entire disc, and that's it. You can even burn the game onto a disc of your own if you want to, meaning you never have to download the title again. You'll have it, just as though you bought it from the store.

Do you actually have fair use rights over your purchase? If you want to sell the game to someone else, can you?

I like steam for the features it has apart from the purchasing of games.

I got CoD:WaW from D2D and it was a painless process, but I always look to steam for convenience and easy managability.

can you re-download a title from D2D? I'm assuming you can, right? Never used D2D before, but am curious about RE 2 for PC.

Yes. I downloaded Cod5 a few times.

It may vary with each title though. I can imagine some publishers might want to control that.

well that kills it a little from me, I can back it up for sure using external hard drives or other sources, but it's nice to know with Steam, i can download my games anywhere as long as I have access to an internet connection. If it doesn't vary then that's probably another thing entirely. I'm at work or I'd look up a more definite answer.

At the D2D site it says specifically that you can download a game whenever you want to. D2D is easily as good as Steam. Myself, I still prefer to buy the boxed versions of games - but these digital sales can't be beaten.

Daggah, you can't burn a D2D game onto disc and sell it to somebody else - that's not legal. To do that you'd have to buy the boxed copy. (I mean you'd have to sell the box and everything.)

yeah that's the problem with stores, they have to make a certain amount of money on the games they sell, but through digital distribution, well, it's way more flexible.

Good point, you don't need a Steam-like app running. Then again, it also won't auto-patch like Steam, though. Pros and cons to everything. But I do see your point.

With Steam you still have to be concerned about third-party DRM that won't allow you to install to more than a few machines. First time I remember this becoming a big issue was with Bioshock, I think it only allowed three installs. I remember one website's review of Bioshock quickly became a semi-review of Steam not being the only DRM involved, and getting the run-around about if they had to contact Steam or (whoever published Bioshock) to help get it resolved. Steam still warns you today on titles that have third-party DRM. So, if D2D's being forced by a publisher to adhere to some limit, the same's happening at Steam, too... Stupid to punish the paying customer, but that's a different discussion...

If they do put Need For Speed Shift on sale I'm going to be conflicted.

I just bought GRID yesterday, and I plan to buy Dirt 2 on Tuesday. Buying 3 racing games within the space of five days would be obscene.

Over at D2D, Dawn of Discovery is still on sale for 50% off - what do you guys think about this game? I played the demo, and didn't care for the fixed camera angle, but I've been turned off by demos in the past, only to end up buying the game later on and really enjoying it. It's tempting.

Jesus, what's up with the camera in Resident Evil 5 - it's like the zombies are 1 feet away from you. It's weird. Also, I keep on running out of ammo. :(

How does it compare to Majesty?

How does it compare to Majesty?

I never played Majesty. But honestly, for ten dollars, Majesty 2 is worth it. Don't over-think this one though. It's just a charming, fun game. If you start looking for real depth then you're not going to find it - but I don't believe that it was ever meant to be a deep game.

As of right now, you've only got six hours left to buy it. I've got the boxed copy right here in front of me - I paid $49.99 for this just a couple of months ago and even I don't feel ripped off by it.

PC Gamer, by the way, recently gave this game a 50% rating. Yup, the reviewer completely over-analyzed it. I agreed with everything he said, but in the end I felt the reviewer was far more concerend with making himself look good than he was in just allowing himself to sit back and enjoy the damned game.

I just don't see how you can go wrong for ten dollars.

So what do you guys think about the latest round:

Left 4 Dead 7$
Ghostbusters 10$
Spore 20$
City of Heroes 10$
Trine 10$
Order of War 10$
Resident Evil 25$
Borderlands 33$

The only two I don't have on that list are Borderlands and Trine, and honestly I'm tempted to buy both, even though I just bought Resident Evil 5 yesterday from D2D, and Grid from Steam the day before.

Is Borderlands a deal for 33$ do you think? The thing is, I'm not going to be able to get around to playing it for a while. Man, what a tough decision. And what about Trine? What do we know about this thing? It's only ten dollars. Man, I've only got 19 hours to decide. The clock is ticking. (I'm also considering Dawn of Discovery over at D2D for $25) And by the way, I'm probably going to get lynched for writing this, but in my opinion, Spore is actually worth $20. I got a good 20 hours out of that game. Do I want to play it again - no way man. But it was fun for what it was. I think that it's a go at twenty. :)

IMO, Borderlands should have been 50% off - how long has this game been out? It's been a couple of weeks at least, hasn't it? What the hell are they waiting for?

Is this sarcasm? Games generally don't go on a 1/2 off sale a month after they're out...

Pretty good sales today!
I've always wanted BF2 but never got around it for even 20€ so I bit on that.

BF2 is still great, been playing it again lately. One plus to the Steam version is that it might make the patching headache nonexistent.

How is Guild Wars these days? I.e. worth the purchase?

It's interesting how different people either like the list or think that it's weak - I liked Friday's list a lot, with Majesty 2 at ten dollars being the standout, as I did Saturday's list, with Resident Evil 5 and Borderlands both selling at substantial discounts, but today's list does nothing for me.

People said of Far Cry 2 that they wouldn't even pay five dollars for it - I feel that way about Prince of Persia. I paid thirty-dollars for it and spent literally 45 minutes playing the thing, which felt like such a defeat. But if you immediately dislike a game, for whatever reasons, there's not much you can do about it.

I had been hoping to see Shift at 50% off - maybe tomorrow?

Today I think I'm going to buy Dawn of Discovery for 50% over at D2D. I played the demo last night and it drew me in. I didn't want to stop playing. Also, the reviews have been almost exclusively positive.

The thing I like about Dawn of Discovery (Anno games) is the music.. its so relaxing and it really makes me want to play it more, haha.

I thought I might post in here since others may have bought the LucasArts pack. I was trying to play Monkey Island SE, but it seems to hang at the opening credits. It never cuts to gameplay after the credits are done. I even waited and it ended up looping the music again. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm using Windows 7 Pro x64.

Also, has anyone found a fix for ATI users and the bump mapping issue in Republic Commando?

Evil Genius - $2.49
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition - $2.49
Mirror's Edge - $5
Quantz - $2
Dawn of Discovery - $34.99
Section 8 - $24.99
The Chronicles of Riddick™ Assault on Dark Athena - $9.99
Call of Juarez®: Bound in Blood - $20.99

Picked Mirrors Edge, Glad I didn't spend $50 when it was released

Just picked up Evil Genius. $2.50 is certainly impulse buy territory. Liked the demo when I played it a long time ago but never got around to buying the full game.

Dawn of Discovery was 50% off yesterday at D2D and I spent the whole afternoon playing it. Why would Steam not put it on sale for 50% off? I don't get that? That's not a very good deal.

Mirror's Edge is worth five dollars, and I believe that Call Of Juarez: Bound in Blood is worth twenty. Bound In Blood's single player was so much better than what I thought it was going to be - but the multiplayer is fun as well. I love the Wild West Legends mode in which your gang has to... defend the bank... defend the bank vault... defend the safe... defend the stables... great game.

I bought Riddick for five dollars at D2D and haven't even touched it yet.

Foolishly, I had been hoping that Shift would be put on sale. I think that that will happen eventually though.
