Ive owned an Asus EAH4670 for about 6-7 months and the fan on the heatsink is dieing, Ive contacted Asus regarding trying to get a new fan for the heatsink and have recieved the following reply.
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Echo and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

Basically, ASUS is a manufactory, and sells the products through distributor channel. Thus, we can’t provide the end user our product, support CD, or other accessories directly.
Please contact with your local retailer for RMA service.

Would it be that hard for them to sort out a new fan? I dont want to send the card back as its working fine, just the fans on its way out so Ive got an 80mm fan opinting at it for now, and its my only card. Surely Once i find the reciept Ill just get told to rma directly again as ive had it for quite a while?

Hi, I had the exact same problem with the Asus 4670. I decided to try passively cooling mine and it worked like a dream, this page was very helpful and I managed to pick up the Zalman VNF100 quite cheap off Amazon Marketplace (but I'm in the U.K.).

As someone who'd never taken a GPU cooler apart, I found the whole process was very easy (just a little filing) and the lack of noise and card temps are great. One of my more satisfying purchases, I highly recommend it.

Holy shit! Asus Corp. quick with the damage control huh? Sign on to a forum and suggest an alternative solution instead of replacing the fan. Nice one! hehehe... J/K... :D

OP... Forward this e-mail to the place you got it from and on the bottom of the letter write cc: Better Business Bureau (of wherever you are). See how far that getsyou first.

Heh, I wish. The original fan was a noisy piece of junk though, they'd only replace it with the same, passive FTW :).

Why? What company that you know of will send out parts for the user to replace on a piece of hardware that is not supposed to be taken apart by the end user?

Just like you can't call the manufacturer of your DVD player and ask for them to send out a replacement button panel or laser.... sure the parts are available for purchase elswhere, but the manufacturer sure isn't going to send it directly to an end user.

You are right. Yes that would be somewhat negligent... But I don't see Asus offering to RMA the card as well. I did instruct the OP to forward the e-mail that he got from Asus to the place where he got it from. ;)

I was just kidding because I saw the second poster offering a solution 2 hours later and he's a new member, hinting that he was working to Asus Corp. and diligent enough to sign on to a forum for damage control, but too lazy to send a fan out. Chill out brotha! It's Friday!

BTW welcome to [H]forums deeper.

This is the standard reply basically. Your csr could have explained it better but here's the thing, they don't want you the end user to replace the heatsink yourself. They can get you the fan no biggie, but if they had to deal with everyone who wanted stuff like fans their cust. service lines would be overwhelmed in short order, with morons who tried prying the old fan off with a screwdriver messing their cards up. So instead of trying to discern over the phone what kind of user you are they save alot of effort by just saying "RMA plz".
