I'm in the market for a decent professional monitor for photo/video editing, after reading some reviews I have found the HP LP2275w to be a decent pick.

Are there any other monitors that are not discontinued or upcoming that I should consider? I'm willing to wait for a few months for any new releases.

Thank you.

I would for upcoming Dell U2410 ( IPS- 24"), which is better than HP (according to reviews)

I agree, I'd wait it out until U2410 is released--best case scenario you can get the LP2475w at a lower price at that time.

I'm also considering it, because I'm on a tight budget. I'm studying graphic design. The Dell U2410 is better of course, but it is also twice the money.

Another option I am considering is the Dell 2209WA which is considered to be great value for money and quite color-accurate (more accurate than the HP before calibration) , but it is not wide-gamut. On the plus side, it is also cheaper. So for me the dilemma is bigger color space VS more accurate out of the box colors (and cheaper monitor). I don't know for sure which is best, but I am leaning towards the HP LP2275W

what will the Dell U2410 be priced at? and when is it expected to hit the USA/Canadian market?

If you dont mind the oversaturated colors of wide gamut monitor (meaning color accuracy is not that important in your video editing) then LP2275w might be good choice. Wide gamut monitors are mainly good for large-gamut picture editing with color managed applications, (like Adobe Photoshop) otherwise colors get oversaturated (calibration does not help if the program doesnt read the profile in the first place) unless the monitor has a proper sRGB emulation mode, and unfortunately LP2275w and LP2475w monitors do not have a functional one.

Above mentioned 2209WA might be much better choice though. IPS panel, standard sRGB gamut so colors are not a problem unless you work with aRGB widegamut pictures, and cheap price.

the 2209WA is discontinued in Canada, and I don't buy second hand electronics.

You've got me thinking..

Thing is, I thought that wide-gamut would be useful for me, as I am studying graphic design. But most printed work is done in cmyk anyway, which is a rather small color space, and I don't recall working a lot with aRGB pictures. Adobe RGB of course is useful for photographs, but I am not sure it would make that much difference in my case. Also, for web design & video editing I would probably be better off with sRGB.

Dell U2410 seems to combine the best of both worlds. As I can't afford it though, I might consider the 2209WA.

You need to make sure your video editing software has ICC profiling and gamut mapping in order for a WG monitor to be useable. This means you would also need to purchase a colorimeter.

The 2209WA can't count good brightness uniformity among its successes. At its price point, I suppose it lacks the means to achieve a good result. You'll have to align your expectations with your budget. There are alternatives I guess, such as the LP2065.

Rosh...

From what I understand, it's the same panel in both. And, the monitors have not been compared head to head in a comprehensive evaluation, AFAIK. Even if the U2410 is considered better, will a big price difference be worth it? I don't think there will be a big difference between the two.

Wait 'til the U2410 is out, see the new detailed reviews, compare prices, and fire away...

The monitor has been released everywhere except here in US. We have seen some reviews and couple of members here in Hardfrom own this lcd already. According to reviews u2410 is far ahead than HP one. Specially this buddy comes with good sRGB performance. Also this thing got 12bit LUT instead of 8bit. I would always prefer u2410 over HP one.

In price wise, dell can not go to something like $1000, because they already got 30" for that price range. Also in someother countries it selling under the price of 2408wfp. What i guess is something about $600 - $750. But always you would have GREAT dells coupons that lower the price.

I don't expect any coupons on the U2410 for quite a while.....until the 'buzz' over the new monitor calms down. So, initially, I think there will be a big price difference between the two... with many folks getting the HP.

Selling for about U$D 450 in Malaysia (with coupons)...

I would be SHOCKED if it was that price here. I still think @ $600. But, I hope you're right and I'm wrong!!

Yeah, I'm holding off purchasing a 2nd LP2475w until the u2410 comes out. Maybe I'll grab two if the price is right, or just put it side by side with my existing HP

Its totally upto you. I would not go for wide gamut HP screen even U2410 more expensive than $250. Also note that most of the time u get coupon for whole section like electronics and accessories, not for a sepcific monitor, so u will be able to apply it.

Finally the LCD is available here in USA for $599

No more HP for me ;)

While the panel might be same, its not the panel only that defines monitor quality, but also electronics behind it that drive the panel. Stuff like LUT, overdrive, backlight, and details like proper sRGB colorspace emulation. On paper atleast U2410 is heaps ahead of LP2475w.

With the 20% off coupon (till 9/13)... at 480, the pricing is much closer to what I stated, and it was initially priced at about USD 600 about 3 weeks before discounts and coupons brought to around USD 450. With Dell its always to wait a little longer

Like I said in my post, I'm glad you're right!! Think I'm going to get it.

Hope it's 'faster' than my Dell 20" # 2001FP. This comp is primarily for gaming w/ my son and me....

If you're doing graphic design, you don't want wide gamut. Wide gamut leads to color inaccuracy when designing with sRGB color space.
