New ATI with built in Triple head? Eyefinity??

I'd be more interested in triple head gaming if it were more mainstream and worked with a greater variety of monitors.

It seems like this one will support a lot more monitor types.

It sounds like it can handle 3 x 30" 2560x1600 monitors!

Not everybody uses it but its nice knowing that for those who can afford 3 monitors, that i dont have to spend another $400 to get it to work!

I have one 37" 1080p and two 30" 2560x1600 monitors... I just CANNOT imagine using them in a triplehead config...

I doubt Crysis would run on that for another half-decade at minimum...

Actually, considering the FOV you get on each monitor (100+), aren't you practically seeing behind you by the time you get to the edge of the side monitors?

Well my primary interest isn't gaming. Just a cleaner way to get 3 monitors.

My computer is in my living room and I have 37" 1080P TV and 24" desktop. I want another 24" desktop for general usage, but I have no way to plug it in now and the PCI card choices are limited and an ugly solution.

But this solution can serve both markets TH gamers and those who want 3 monitors.

Then what's the difference between this and a 4850x2 for you?

As far as I can tell, there isn't.

The is a BIG difference between running 3 monitors at once (easy) and doing what the TH2GO can do (emulating one single monitor). Only gamers benefit from emulating a single monitor.

Which is why I don't understand why he's waiting for this... He just wants three monitors plugged into a single card... Unless he just want to pay more for it?

I was agreeing with you. ;)

I just don't think he understands what it does.

I am very interested in this feature. I am about to do a major geek upgrade this Fall, and was looking at 3 - 22" LCD's of 1650x1050res = total of 5040x1050res  But the only hardware to run it properly was the Matrox TH2G device.

So will these new 5870 cards not need the Matrox device at all ?

That is my understanding. This is does native TH, the equivalent of Matrox THTG built in.

4850x2 has all but gone from the market and I don't even know if such a beast would fit in my computer. But I really don't like this kind of solution (double GPU).

I prefer the simplest (no CF nonsense), lowest power drawing, and quietest solution.

A simple lower end 58xx solution with three outputs, 1 GPU, 1 quiet fan, no CF would be preferable for me.

Also with TH built in for free, I might experiment with that as well.

Sweet  That will save me $299 from buying the TH2G, and allow me to buy a 2nd 5870 and Crossfire these two bad boys on my X48 Asus Rampage motherboard. I am wetting my pants at the thought of triple screen gaming this Fall with new games like Left 4 Dead-2, and Op Flash 2, plus of course some triple widescreen WoW

I'm more economical. I just want to run 3x 2001FP's at 4800x1200. I don't want to run big monitors :).

You turn CF off to use more than two monitors.

I guess I didn't realize the 58xx cards will be any different in size from a 4850x2. My 4870x2 is the same size as the 4870 I had...

I still don't see how a 4850x2 would be any different than the two-card solution you were considering, though?

You said you had no way to plug it in with a single card, and the additional PCI card solutions are limited... The 4850x2 isn't gone from the market... So, you could have done that already, which was my point.

Hopefully the 58xx works for ya...

.

What two card solution. The whole point is I don't want a two card solution. This is the first single card, single GPU solution with three active outputs(not counting matrox). That is exactly what I am looking for. I haven't gone for another solution (4850x2) yet because the solutions are so unpalatable.

compare the size of 4850x2 (the only one left at newegg):

to a 4850:

I would be looking for something like a 5850 or 5830, I don't see why they couldn't be 4850 size.

so will this allow 3 monitors off of one card?
or 3 monitors acting as one off of two cards?
if the second, then why not go all out and support 4 monitors as one?

3 monitors running at 25x16 on one card, or 6 at 25x16 with crossfire

which is an insane amount of pixels to render.

In Crossfire I believe it would still only power 3 monitors. The 2 video cards are splitting the work on the 3 displays though, so it should ideally work at double the framerates.

but I have been wondering what is so hard about giving us 3 display support on one card.

it likely isnt, there just wasnt a big enough demand before to bother doing it

I wonder if you can do 5 now with the surround view feature on AMD motherboards. I can currently use 4 but I think that is the limit.

So Matrox TH2G was limited to 3 - 22" Monitors of 1680x1050res each, and that Matrox is pretty old anyways, as far as computer age goes.

So will just one single 5870 now run 3 monitors just like the Matrox did ? But allow larger resolutions instead ? Like 3 - 27" of 1920x1200 ea or even 3 - 30"

How about different res ? Like one 30" in the middle of 2560x1600 and flanked on each side a 20" of 1200x1600 flipped vertically.

The other possibility is, this is their way of advertising DisplayPort support. The standard is supposed to allow daisychaining, so this may be a roundabout announcement that "we support DisplayLink."

Why does everybody keep calling a video card a "solution"? Its not like its the answer to a dizzy ass math problem. Its a fucking video card.

Eh...sadly I won't being doing it with a 2 display setup...the center of the screen/crosshair/your dude will have the split down the middle from the monitor frames. I wouldn't mind those on the edges of the main screen, but not the center.

Yea 3 would be better to do then lol. Didn't really think about that.

Snowdog, you'll notice on the bottom of the first picture it says concept by: then some stupid name in old english letters. And do you really think the single gpu card is only going to have one CFX connector?

Missed that... thanks. I guess we just have to way two weeks then we will have a real idea what is up.

was about to say the same thing, and look at the right edge of the cards, ITS CROOKED! not even straight.
