Windows 7 is now on Technet

I'm getting only 70kbps or so, but that could be because I'm remoted in (I just remoted into my home PC to start the download there...), I guess some of you have better luck...

YAY, paying good money to wait longer. this blows

One could argue they'd let Business consumers wait longer... Whereas TechNet is an enthusiast deal pretty much... For testers.

Makes sense to release it to testers and enthusiasts first before businesses.

So before I install, can someone tell me can I "upgrade" the rc (build 7100) to the RTM build without reinstalling everything.

If I can not can someone tell me how to backup my 280 GBs of steam games without redownloading, for downloading them in the first place is a pain in the ass.

Yes, you can. However honestly, I'd rather replace beta code with the final code... And do a full install.

As far as steam I have no idea, you might ask in the gaming forums. I'm sure there's just some folders you've got to move over.

You shouldn't have to do a format, just do a "custom" install. That'll move windows, users, and program files / program file (x86) into a new folder "Windows.old'. When you're done, just move your steam folder back where you had it and reinstall steam. Your games should show up again.

Please tell me that the whole different version, differet hash thing doesn't mean what I think it means. I loved Vista's discs for being so helpfully permissive.

Got a 2nd HDD? If so within steam if you right click on a game there is an option to create a backup executable. It can be broken down into disc sizes for burning or just 1 file to dump on an external hdd.

Once your win7 is up, just install steam and launch the .exe's for the games you want to reinstall.

I am just happy I am DLing at all (knocks on wood). I am getting 400KB/sec~.

Well the only real difference... There's 1 file on each disk that tells it which version to install. That's it.

You can remove that file and build your own image if you wanted, and then specify at install what you want to install, and it'd be essentially the same thing as a Vista disk.

But I agree with you. I loved the "one disk for all" Vista way of doing things.

Oh, what exactly does "If you retrieved a key for the Windows 7 Beta or RC, a Windows 7 key has been provided for your convenience...." mean with regards to Win7 Ultimate? That can't possibly mean our RC key will work with Ultimate, does it? It otherwise generates an error instead of providing keys when you click "get".

Did you download the Beta through Technet or the public site?

It gave me a couple keys for 7 ultimate just fine. Then again I didn't have technet RC keys, I was using the widely available ones they sent out to everyone.

Downloading it at work and home
215 Kbps at work
40 Kbps at home

My home has 6 Mbps DSL =(

I was going to go with Win7 Professional but with my Technet subscription I might as well go Ultimate at home.

Anybody else having this "predicament"?

DLing @ 300-400KB/s

Question: Anyone having problems/errors getting the Win7 keys? I have no problem requesting any other keys.

Edit: Nevermind, I got my answer. If this happens and you recieve an error, just refresh and the keys will eventually show.

It's a tough life but someone's gotta live it ;)

I'm not sure from which MS site I downloaded the RC. Since I wasn't a Technet subscriber at the time, I would assume it was from the public site. Although, afterwards I got the Technet offer and subsequently subscribed to Technet.

Sweet got my download going... remoted in to my home pc... hopefully it's done within 4 hours or so when i get home!

Then login to the TechNet site, go to the downloads section...
