I don't know how I managed to not notice this, but when I connected my new wireless router the other day, I setup the wireless wrong and ran a completely open network for a couple of days. There was some fucker connected to it today, but I've gotten it fixed now.

Should I be worried? I don't think I have anything on this computer marked as a shared folder.

I'm so ashamed of myself :eek::mad::mad::(:(:eek:

Probably was just someone using the internet.

Many times people dont even know it and their machines connect to a neighbors house or something if it is an open network.

it was "beau-PC" so I'm thinking of making my SSID something like "beau is a dead man"

Just watch out for shady/ricketty SUVs in front of your house, with camera lenses sticking out the windows.

Don't worry. My computer would connect to the strongest signal when my default wireless network wasn't available. doubt they even knew. Maybe they just needed internet quickly.

is it a crime to name your wireless something like nsa.gov?

My AP is named as "Free Aids".

My old AP was brought to work, one of the sales guys asked "whos network is 'Free Aids'?":D

I've been meaning to set one up called free internet, and not plug in any internet to it.

Mine used to be nofreeinternet4u.

My other neighbors didn't really secure theirs at all. SSID was the default one for most. The ones that were secured were actually done pretty well. I'm surprised that they even knew what they were doing for the most part. They had to have had someone else that set it up for them. :)

1/2 of them are open around here. The rest my guess, is the router must have some with an automatic setup to secure it.

Just to go along somewhat on topic...how would one verify that their network is secure?

There was a network called that on my old street. xD

Reminds me of that pizza delivery truck that usually hangs outside my place. What does a pizza delivery truck need a satellite dish for?

haha i was connected to a neighbors for a few days... did it twice actually... i feel bad cause i had that thing downloading lots of "stuff"....he was probably pissed his internet ran so slow... i didn't realize cause i have a linksys router and by default it was named linksys... so that was saved in my "network" list and i automaticly connected to it. Turns out mine was unplugged due to one day it was storming like crazy (get bad lighting here sometimes). Second time i thought my router reset so i was logging in to change the SSID back and the log in page was different. (must have had an older firmware)

and to top it all to be as ass i went to a dennys once real late and my iphone popped up with "Connect to Linksys" so i was like ohhh man thats funny... i logged into the router and change the SSID to "We Spit in your Food".... i think when the name changed it kicked off whoever was on it cause it soon disappeared and some guy came out of the back and was walking around the store, my guess he was looking for someone with a computer probably...
