Hi Folks! It's that time of year again, and we need to get this ball rolling!

Pretty much the same rules that have worked so well in the past. We were thinking that 20 million would be a good number to race to this year, but we can change that if the teams decide on something else.

I'm in the process of contacting all of the Top Ten folding teams on EOC, so this year should be very interesting indeed!

Couple of things right from the get-go:

1. I'd like you to choose a team captain! The sooner the better, of course. This person will represent your team in all things, so make the choice wisely!

2. Official-Unofficial Rules for this year:

Here's a couple of tidbits regarding the upcoming Chimp Challenge '09.

First, the rules:

1. First team to accumulate 20,000,000 points from the start time wins.

2. Start time for the contest is Tuesday, May 5th at 12pm, Pacific Daylight Time.

3. The victor gets to claim the lucky jaded monkey as the prize. Tales have been told of untold wealth and fame that comes with this. The victorious team is allowed to display in any honorary fashion the jaded monkey, the losing team is forbidden to display it. The losing team is bestowed the dreaded monkey's paw, which is said to be cursed. People have been known for have very bad luck with this paw!

4. Team captains are as follows:

[H]orde=Xilikon [H]ardApe

EVGA=l337h4l EVGApes

OCN=KniteLife OCNChimpin

TSC! Russia=RU_Hil TSCh!mp

OCAU chestrcoprpot=Monkey_Bollocks

Overclockers torin3=T32Monkeys

MPC bigtoyota479=maximum_monkey

Custom PC saspro=CPChimps

5. In the event of a close race, the Stanford site will be considered the official source for points information.

6. Only team captains are allowed to make changes to rules.

7. The official folding names are TBA

8. Have fun and keep it positive.

I'm going to get in touch with seadave from the overclockers. He's going to hook us up with stats as he did last year. He's working on the coding right now and will pass along a url when he has it up and running. He did a hella job last year with the stats. Many of us even have the final graph proudly stashed away in our files as a reminder of the contest and the outcome. If you have a chance, give him a pat on the back and a bit of thanks for his trouble. When I have that url for the site I'll pass it along to you guys/gals.

Official Rules at MPC

The chimp challenge thread over at overclockers, here. (TBA)

Trash Talk!

I'll try post screenshots from stanford for each team on may 5th, 12pm pacific.

Edit: All Teams starting screenshot from Stanford.

I'll add more to/edit this post as necessary.

I'm still around as your team captain for the [H]orde ;)

Ok! Sounds good! If there's anything you see that needs to be changed, or would like changed, speak up here or over at MaxPC and we can hash it out.

Sure, pm me with the link and I'll join for the discussion...

I think for now we'll just use the Official Rules thread I have in my post. If that ends up not working out, I'll get something set up in a private area.

Ok. Gotcha! So far there are 6 teams in this, possibly seven as Team Russia is already gearing up as well. Waiting on DL.TV and Custom PC.

sorry, noob butting in, but I have 1 question for you (more Xil than toyo)
[H]ardApe or Apes?
I'd hate to see us split points between 2 names, thats all

ok... slowly backs out now.. dont kill the noob... you like the noob... ...

We don't kill n00bs, we help them as long as n00bs can also sling monkey poo ;)

ok, I figured it was Ape, just wanna make sure

Ya, I'll borg out my 20k to the cause, I'll sling what I can

Look like there is more teams joining so it would be a awesome race with a real poo mess around :D

I've got about 50k when I get a couple rebuilds done this weekend going with a few lovely VM's :)

man I was looking at some other teams, we got some competition.

We need to get kyle to post an AD in the gaming/video card section.
Get our PPD up high enough and this comp would only last a few days, if we get all the current folders in on it.

The river of poo that will come from this

More like an earthquake of monkey poo. An earthquake so big it would break the Richter scale

Also gearin' up and gettin' ready to help the mighty [H]orde not repeat last years Chimp Challege results. Come on boys and girls, we's a' gonna' whop up on any and all contenders that would be insane enough to challenge the #1 team in the whole freakin' anything (World, Universe, E2D2's domain, anywhere) :p

DCing for a CURE and also for the mighty [H]orde

I'm currently sitting just over 15k PPD with more to come (2x 260GTX, 1x 8800GT). Will contribute everything for the [H] as needed. :D

Ax

River of poo indeed. Still sitting at eight teams, just waiting on confirmation from Alliance Francophone and DL.TV. Even if they don't enter, it will still be a lot of fun! (and poo, can't forget the poo)

well looks like i should be back up close to full strength :D lets rock this joint!

Finally, its time. Let's do this!

Has anyone officially opened the ApeCave yet?

So next dumb question - if we're using the same names as last year, we need to somehow figure out what the goal for each returning team is, right? For example, using the badge above, we will need to get to 25,894,326 pernts to win, right? If the 4 teams from last year are all using the same names, they will all have different finish lines, while all the new ones will only have to break 20M even, and that might get a bit confusing...

SeaDave will have a custom stats page to follow the chimp challenge. the page will show 0 for everyone but in reality it's indeed 5,894,326 + 20,000,000 for a total of 25,894,326 as finish line.

There will be sites monitoring the race like last year. EOC had a separate page monitoring the challenge. It will likely be the same this year if not even more coverage. It should be relatively easy to follow.

Edit: Sorry for the redundant post, I didn't see your reply above, Xilikon.

Yeah usually someone posts the "official starting numbers" for the teams at the start of the challenge. Then each team knows the ending number they have to get to. Even if we picked a new username people would start switching over early and it wouldnt start at exactly 0. :)

And I didn't know you're typing as well :p

metallicafan is correct. Just when the challenge start, leaders will meet together and agree on the starting numbers then stats will calculate from those numbers.

The starting numbers will be pulled from Stanford's Stats page at noon on May 5th. Those will be the starting points for all teams involved. Screenshots will be taken so we have a record of the points.

I just got a reply back from Seadave, and as soon as his stats graph is up I'll post it in my original post so you guys can have access.

Count me in, I have a couple machines just waiting to be burned in running F@H.
I should have at least 50-60k to donate to the [H] :D

You guys are ok with stanford being the preferred stats site? EOC has been too glitchy lately for my tastes.

Last year, we used Stanford stats for reference so I prefer that way. Third-party stats is sometime unreliable since it manipulate data.
