from the author of that thread, something seem to be suspicious..

he said he borrow the card from his friend...

HUH.......that's odd ball there, and the card is made in China? uh.....I might look into that one before I made my decision of purchasing.... got bad experience with MIC stuffs..

and 128bit BUS? uhhh..........nerf down ?

I'll say wait and see..... not going to make more judgment until there is more trusted info..

yeah he borrowed it from somebody to test it. and of course is made in china. everything is LOL. /sarcastic, check behind your mobo, card, etc. is made from china. all mine does lol

meh...mine is made in Taiwan, which is very trusted and very original...

MIC item = consumption type ... and that is why they are cheap... don't want to mention they cancel my Crysis Iron box due to toxic problem since its made in china :p

It's rumored to have more efficient shaders so it's faster than the 4870 clock for clock.

In any case it's only a few weeks away.
 
Same chip with a few optimizations, faster memory and core. Ive heard the 512MB version is about $50 cheaper than the 1GB. Should be a decent card, hopefully enough to topple the 285.
 
I'm calling this round for the GTX 275.
Sorry ATI, I don't think the 4870 OC will cut it.

By the way, someone should really tell them that changing the PCB color to black would probably double or triple their sales.

Wait.. since when does ATI make surfboards? Does this mean they teamed up with OP to make beach wear too? Awesomesauce! Summers right around the corner and I love to surf!
 
don't see why it matters if it doesn't beat it, the 4870 was never stated to beat the GTX280, who cares if this doesn't beat the 275, as long as they can keep the pricing war going on I'm just as happy.

This is another refresh from ATI, not exactly anything new to see here
 
Looks like it requires 6 + 8 pin power now?

EDIT: the back of the PCB looks like there are 14 contacts for the power connectors, but the one shot of the cooler from the front looks like it's still 6 + 6.
 
ATI has been good about not doing refreshes. Surprised they are using nvidia tactics now.

well at least you know that you are getting a slightly better/different card with the 4890. Nvidia is so odd with their naming. I mean the gtx260 can be a 65nm 192sp, 65nm 216sp, or a 55nm 216sp card. hell even gpu-z can get confused and misinterpret the card.
 
This is a product refresh, however it is keeping very simple on the naming, with a 4890 compared to the previous 4870.

Also rumors have it, that the actual silicon on the chip is different, a revision of the current chip. A 100mhz core boost, and a 50mhz mem speed boost is not something that should be dismissed, it is not like they are simply repacking all the old 4850 and 4870 cards into a 4940 and 4960.

I think this is more of a second generation R700 series chip...
 
Looks like 4870 to me. But i hope the pricing should be the same as before.
