New build turns off after 30 seconds

I just put my new build together and everything seems to be good; it reads all my memory; hard drive; video; but it turns off after about 30 seconds to a minute, then turns on halfway another 20 seconds later, then off and repeats the halfway thing. Is this some kind of power issue? I'm using a 1000w antec Quattro in a Antec Twelve Hundred case. I'm also using the Noctua U12P Heatsink and Fan.

I have e E8600 3.33 ghz, but my Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard is reading it as 2.8ghz. Why is that? I changed the Multiplier from 8 to 10 (3.33ghz) and now it still shuts down.

Is it possible my heatsink is not on correctly and my CPU is overheating and the computer just shuts off? But the thing is it turns itself back on. And it can't overheat after being on for just 30 seconds right? Maybe the power button?

Yea the series of those mobos restart randomly until it feels its stable, Its weird, make sure the stock voltages are there, as well as the correct ram timings, ram voltage, etc.

Thanks. I also noticed that my CPU temperature slowly rises from 60c to 120c right before it shuts off this is over a minute though. What could be going on?

Did you apply TIM or check that your CPU fan works, amongst other things.

wow, yea, something is wrong there, are you using stock cooling? if so, it should not even be that high, Try scrubbing the stock thermal paste that comes on the intel cooler off and reapplying as5, if you do not have as5, then try getting some, those temps are very bad, which means improper as5 application or the cooler is not making proper contact with the cpu.

Like i said, hell im sure even on stock cooling load temps would be around 70. So yea, try seeing if the cooler is making proper contact, if you have artic silver around, scrub the stock paste off and apply artic silver. When my e5200 came the stock cooler had 3 mini lines of the thermal paste, which made me laugh out my chair.

yes i repeated my self twice, im tired

Yea the fans on.Im using a Noctua heatsink and fan. Its really hard to mount the Noctua on the mobo because of screws that are in really awkward places, so I think you might be right that the heat sink isn't set properly. Im gonna take it off and put it back on.

The manual only says 4-5mm of paste which is barely any. Should I use a lot more?

No, if anything, use less. Paste is just there to fill in microscopic cracks.

Yup Iowatech is right! I just went back and added paste to it and remounted it and now I'm running 27C constant!

Thank you!
